ਘਨਿਯੋ ਹਾਥ ਕਾਟੇ ਗਿਰੇ ਪੇਟ ਫਾਟੈ ਫਿਰੈ ਬੀਰ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਮੈ ਬਾਨ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

Hands of many were amputated, many fell on the ground with exploded bellies, and those pierced with arrows were roaming in the battlefield.

ਘਨਿਯੋ ਘਾਇ ਲਾਗੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਪਾਗੇ ਮਨੋ ਪਹਨਿ ਆਏ ਸਬੈ ਲਾਲ ਬਾਗੇ ॥੧੮੦੬॥

Many of the wounded appeared to have come after wearing red garmens.1806.

ਜਬੈ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਬਲਿ ਰਾਮ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਮ੍ਯਾਨੇ ਲੀਯੋ ਪਾਨਿ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਕੈ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਭਾਰੀ ॥

When Krishna and Balram took the discus and the sword in their hands, then someone went pulling his bow and

ਕੇਊ ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਕੋ ਤਾਨ ਧਾਏ ਕੇਊ ਢਾਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਸੂਲ ਮੁਗਦ੍ਰ ਕਟਾਰੀ ॥

Someone went holding the shield, trident, mace or dagger

ਜਰਾਸੰਧਿ ਕੀ ਫਉਜ ਮੈ ਚਾਲ ਪਾਰੀ ਬਲੀ ਦਉਰ ਕੈ ਠਉਰਿ ਸੈਨਾ ਸੰਘਾਰੀ ॥

There was consternation in the army of Jarasandh, becase the mighty Krishna ran hither and thither to kill the army

ਦੁਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਰ ਪੈ ਸਾਰ ਬਾਜਿਯੋ ਛੁਟੀ ਮੈਨ ਕੇ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਕੀ ਨੈਨ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੧੮੦੭॥

The steel collided with steel on both sides and because of the dreadfulness of war, the meditation of Shiva was also impaired.1807.

ਮਚੀ ਮਾਰਿ ਘਮਕਾਰਿ ਤਲਵਾਰਿ ਬਰਛੀ ਗਦਾ ਛੁਰੀ ਜਮਧਰਨ ਅਰਿ ਦਲ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥

There was terrible destruction with the swords, lances, maces, daggers, axes etc. and the enemy’s army was being killed

ਬਢੀ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਸਲਤਾ ਬਹੇ ਜਾਤ ਗਜ ਬਾਜ ਰਥ ਮੁੰਡ ਕਰਿ ਸੁੰਡ ਭਟ ਤੁੰਡ ਨਿਆਰੇ ॥

The flowing stream of blood was flooded, the elephants, horses, chariots, heads and trunks of elephants were seen flowing in it

ਤ੍ਰਸੇ ਭੂਤ ਬੈਤਾਲ ਭੈਰਵਿ ਭਗੀ ਜੁਗਨੀ ਪੈਰ ਖਪਰਿ ਉਲਟਿ ਉਰਿ ਸੁ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

The ghosts, Vaitala and Bhairavas become thirsty and the Yoginis also ran away with overturned bowls

ਭਨੈ ਰਾਮ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਅਤਿ ਤੁਮਲ ਦਾਰੁਨ ਭਯੋ ਮੋਨ ਤਜਿ ਸਿਵ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਜੀਅ ਡਰਾਰੇ ॥੧੮੦੮॥

The poet Ram says that in this terrible battle even Shiva and Brahma leaving their concentration became fearful.1808 .

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਜਬ ਸਾਮ ਸੁ ਪਉਰਖ ਏਤੋ ਕੀਯੋ ਅਰਿ ਸੈਨਹੁ ਤੇ ਭਟ ਏਕ ਪੁਕਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਬਡੋ ਬਲਵੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਘਮੰਡ ਕੀਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਨੈਕੁ ਨ ਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

When Krishna exhibited so much bravery, a warrior from enemy’s army cried out, “Krishna is a very powerful hero and is not being defeated even slightly in the war

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਅਬੈ ਭਜੀਐ ਤਜੀਐ ਰਨ ਯਾ ਤੇ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਬਚਿਯੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

“Now leave the battlefield and run away, because all will die and none will survive

ਬਾਲਕ ਜਾਨ ਕੈ ਭੂਲਹੁ ਰੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੇਸ ਤੇ ਗਹਿ ਕੰਸ ਪਛਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੮੦੯॥

Do not fall in the illusion that he is a boy, he is the same Krishna, who had knocked down Kansa by catching him from his hair.”1809.

ਐਸੋ ਉਚਾਰ ਸਬੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਸੰਕਤਿ ਮਾਨ ਭਏ ਹੈ ॥

ਕਾਇਰ ਭਾਜਨ ਕੋ ਮਨ ਕੀਨੋ ਹੈ ਸੂਰਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਕੋਪਿ ਤਏ ਹੈ ॥

Hearing these words, the suspense arose in the minds of all, the coward thought of running away from the battlefield, but the warriors were infuriated

ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨਨ ਲੈ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨ ਭਰੇ ਭਟ ਆਇ ਖਏ ਹੈ ॥

Taking up their bows, arrows, swords etc., they began to fight proudly (with their opponents)

ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਲਯੋ ਅਸਿ ਪਾਨਿ ਸੰਭਾਰ ਹਕਾਰ ਬਿਦਾਰ ਸੰਘਾਰਿ ਦਏ ਹੈ ॥੧੮੧੦॥

Krishna took his sword in his hand, challenged all of them and killed tham.1810.

ਏਕ ਭਜੇ ਲਖਿ ਭੀਰ ਪਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕਹੀ ਬਲਿਬੀਰ ਸੰਭਾਰੋ ॥

ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਜਿਤੇ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਪਹਿ ਹੈ ਜੁ ਅਰੇ ਅਰਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਹਕਾਰਿ ਸੰਘਾਰੋ ॥

Seeing the warriors running away in this calamitous situation, Krishna said to Balram, “You may control this situation and catching hold of all you weapons,

ਧਾਇ ਨਿਸੰਕ ਪਰੋ ਤਿਹ ਊਪਰਿ ਸੰਕ ਕਛੂ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰੋ ॥

ਭਾਜਤ ਜਾਤ ਜਿਤੇ ਰਿਪੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਸਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਗ੍ਰਸੋ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਾਰੋ ॥੧੮੧੧॥

“Challenge the enemy and kill him, fall upon them unhesitatingly and all those enemies who are running away, entrap and catch them without killing them.”1811.

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜਰਾਜ ਕੇ ਆਨਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਸਲੀਧਰ ਬੈਨ ਇਹੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਏ ॥

ਮੂਸਲ ਅਉ ਹਲ ਪਾਨਿ ਲਯੋ ਬਲਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਕੈ ਪਾਛੇ ਹੀ ਧਾਏ ॥

Hearing these words from the mouth of Krishna, Balram took his plough and mace and ran to pursue the enemy’s army

ਭਾਜਤ ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੋ ਮਿਲ ਕੈ ਗਰਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਦਈ ਰਿਪੁ ਹਾਥ ਬੰਧਾਏ ॥

Reaching near the running enemies, Balram bound their hands with his noose

ਏਕ ਲਰੇ ਰਨ ਮਾਝ ਮਰੇ ਇਕ ਜੀਵਤ ਜੇਲਿ ਕੈ ਬੰਧ ਪਠਾਏ ॥੧੮੧੨॥

Some of them fought and died and some were taken alive as prisoners.1812.

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਦੁਬੀਰ ਕੇ ਬੀਰ ਤਬੈ ਅਰਿ ਸੈਨ ਕੇ ਪਾਛੇ ਪਰੇ ਅਸਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

The warriors of Krishna, holding their swords ran after the enemy’s army

ਆਇ ਖਏ ਸੋਊ ਮਾਰਿ ਲਏ ਤੇਊ ਜਾਨਿ ਦਏ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਉ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹਾਰੇ ॥

Those who fought, were killed, and whosoever surrendered, he was released

ਜੋ ਨ ਟਰੇ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਰਨ ਤੇ ਅਰਿ ਤੇ ਬਲਿਦੇਵ ਕੇ ਬਿਕ੍ਰਮ ਟਾਰੇ ॥

Those enemies, who had never retraced their steps in the war, they had to get back before the strength of Balram

ਭਾਜਿ ਗਏ ਬਿਸੰਭਾਰ ਭਏ ਗਿਰ ਗੇ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਕਰਵਾਰਿ ਕਟਾਰੇ ॥੧੮੧੩॥

They became cowards and becoming the burden on the earth, ran away, and the swords and daggers dropped from their hands.1813.

ਜੋ ਭਟ ਠਾਢੇ ਰਹੇ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਤੇਊ ਦਉਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਰਿਸੈ ਕੈ ॥

ਚਕ੍ਰ ਗਦਾ ਅਸਿ ਲੋਹਹਥੀ ਬਰਛੀ ਪਰਸੇ ਅਰਿ ਨੈਨ ਚਿਤੈ ਕੈ ॥

Those warriors who kept standing in the battlefield, they now, getting enraged and taking up their discus, swords, lances, axes etc., gathered together and rushed to the front

ਨੈਕੁ ਡਰੈ ਨਹੀ ਧਾਇ ਪਰੈ ਭਟ ਗਾਜਿ ਸਬੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾਜ ਜਿਤੈ ਕੈ ॥

All of them fearlessly thundering ran to conquer Krishna

ਅਉਰ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਦਿਸ ਜੁਧ ਕਰੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਸੁਰ ਧਾਮ ਹਿਤੈ ਕੈ ॥੧੮੧੪॥

A dreadful war ensued from both sided for the attainment of heaven.1814.

ਪੁਨਿ ਜਾਦਵ ਧਾਇ ਪਰੇ ਇਤ ਤੇ ਉਤ ਤੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਅਰਿ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਧਾਏ ॥

Then Yadavas from this side and the enemies from that side confronted the opponents

ਆਵਤ ਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਆਪਸਿ ਬੀਚ ਹਕਾਰਿ ਹਕਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ ਲਗਾਏ ॥

And mutually locked began to strike blows while challenging one another

ਏਕ ਮਰੇ ਇਕ ਸਾਸ ਭਰੇ ਤਰਫੈ ਇਕ ਘਾਇਲ ਭੂ ਪਰ ਆਏ ॥

Many of them died and writhed on being wounded and many were laid down on the earth

ਮਾਨੋ ਮਲੰਗ ਅਖਾਰਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਲੋਟਤ ਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਗ ਚੜਾਏ ॥੧੮੧੫॥

It appeared that the wrestlers drinking excessive hemp were rolling in the arena.1815.

ਕਬਿਤੁ ॥

KABIT

ਬਡੇ ਸ੍ਵਾਮਿਕਾਰਜੀ ਅਟਲ ਸੂਰ ਆਹਵ ਮੈ ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਤੇ ਪੈਗੁ ਨ ਟਰਤ ਹੈ ॥

The great warriors are engaged in fighting firmly and are not retracing their steps while confronting the enemy

ਬਰਛੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਲੈ ਕਮਾਨ ਬਾਨ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਤਾਹੀ ਸਮੇ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਹੁਲਾਸ ਕੈ ਲਰਤ ਹੈ ॥

Taking their lances, swords, arrows etc. in their hands, they are fighting delightfully, being quite alert

ਜੂਝ ਕੈ ਪਰਤ ਭਵਸਾਗਰ ਤਰਤ ਭਾਨੁ ਮੰਡਲ ਕਉ ਭੇਦ ਪ੍ਯਾਨ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ॥

They are embracing martyrdrom in order to ferry across the dreadful ocean of samsara

ਕਹੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਗੇ ਕਉ ਧਸਤ ਐਸੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਨਰ ਪੈਰ ਪੈਰ ਕਾਰੀ ਪੈ ਧਰਤ ਹੈ ॥੧੮੧੬॥

And after touching the sphere of the sun, they are abiding in heave, just as the foot thrusts further in a deep place, similarly according to the poet, the warriors are advancing forward.1816.

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੋ ਜੁਧੁ ਭਯੋ ਲਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਟ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਰਿਪੁ ਓਰਿ ਚਹੈ ॥

Seeing such-like fighting, the warriors, getting enraged, are looking towards the enemy

ਬਰਛੀ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਪਰਸੇ ਤਿਰਸੂਲ ਗਹੈ ॥

They, holding in their hands lances, arrows, bows, swords, maces, tridents etc., are fearlessly striking blows

ਰਿਪੁ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਧਾਇ ਕੈ ਘਾਇ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਟਰੈ ਬਰ ਤੀਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਹੈ ॥

Going in front of the enemy and are also enduring their blows on their bodies
