ਭਗਨੀ ਦਰਬ ਬਿਲੋਕਿ ਕੈ ਲੋਭ ਸਿੰਧ ਕੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
bhaganee darab bilok kai lobh sindh kai maeh |Seeing the wealth, the sister (drown) in the sea of greed.
ਨਖ ਸਿਖ ਲੌ ਬੂਡਤ ਭਈ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਰਹੀ ਜਿਯ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੫॥
nakh sikh lau booddat bhee sudh na rahee jiy maeh |5|(She) drowned from head to toe (in the sea of greed) and no clear wisdom remained in her mind.5.

ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਵਾਤ ਭਗਨੀ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
bhraat vaat bhaganee na bichaaraa |(That) sister did not consider anything like a brother
ਫਾਸੀ ਡਾਰਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਾ ॥
faasee ddaar kantth meh maaraa |And put a noose around the neck and killed him.
ਲੀਨਾ ਲੂਟਿ ਸਕਲ ਤਿਹ ਧਨ ਕੌ ॥
leenaa loott sakal tih dhan kau |Robbed of all his wealth
ਕਰਿਯੋ ਅਮੋਹ ਆਪਨੇ ਮਨ ਕੌ ॥੬॥
kariyo amoh aapane man kau |6|And made his mind bewitched. 6.
ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਭਏ ਰੋਵਨ ਤਬ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
praat bhe rovan tab laagee |In the morning she started crying
ਜਬ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਗਾਵ ਕੀ ਜਾਗੀ ॥
jab sabh prajaa gaav kee jaagee |When all the people of the village woke up.
ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਬੰਧੁ ਤਬ ਸਭਨ ਦਿਖਾਯੋ ॥
mritak bandh tab sabhan dikhaayo |He showed his dead brother to everyone.
ਮਰਿਯੋ ਆਜੁ ਇਹ ਸਾਪ ਚਬਾਯੋ ॥੭॥
mariyo aaj ih saap chabaayo |7|(And said) it has died by the bite of a snake.7.
ਭਲੀ ਭਾਤ ਤਨ ਤਾਹਿ ਗਡਾਯੋ ॥
bhalee bhaat tan taeh gaddaayo |His body was well dressed
ਯੌ ਕਾਜੀ ਤਨ ਆਪੁ ਜਤਾਯੋ ॥
yau kaajee tan aap jataayo |And he said to the Qazi thus,
ਸਾਜ ਬਾਜਿ ਇਕ ਯਾ ਕੋ ਘੋਰੋ ॥
saaj baaj ik yaa ko ghoro |Its equipment and a horse
ਔਰ ਜੁ ਕਛੁ ਯਾ ਕੌ ਧਨੁ ਥੋਰੋ ॥੮॥
aauar ju kachh yaa kau dhan thoro |8|And a little money (I have) ॥8॥
ਸੋ ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਪਠਾਵਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
so ih triyeh patthaavan keejai |He sent it to his wife
ਫਾਰਖਤੀ ਹਮ ਕੌ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
faarakhatee ham kau likh deejai |And write me Farakhti (Bebaki).
ਕਬੁਜ ਲਿਖਾ ਕਾਜੀ ਤੇ ਲਈ ॥
kabuj likhaa kaajee te lee |(He) wrote the receipt ('kabuj') from the Qazi
ਕਛੁ ਧਨ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਕਹ ਦਈ ॥੯॥
kachh dhan mritak triyaa kah dee |9|And gave some money to the deceased's wife. 9.

ਇਹ ਛਲ ਅਪਨੋ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਹਤਿ ਲੀਨੀ ਕਬੁਜਿ ਲਿਖਾਇ ॥
eih chhal apano bhraat hat leenee kabuj likhaae |With this trick, he killed his brother to write a receipt.
ਨਿਸਾ ਕਰੀ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਧਨ ਗਈ ਪਚਾਇ ॥੧੦॥
nisaa karee tih naar kee sabh dhan gee pachaae |10|All the money was consumed by consoling his wife too. 10.

ਛੈਲ ਦੇਇ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਇਕ ॥
chhail dee duhitaa taa ke ik |He had a daughter named Chhail Dei.
ਪੜੀ ਬ੍ਯਾਕਰਨ ਕੋਕ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਨਿਕ ॥੧॥
parree bayaakaran kok saasatranik |1|She had read a lot of grammar and Kok Shastra. 1.
ਅਜਿਤ ਸੈਨ ਤਿਹ ਠਾ ਇਕ ਛਤ੍ਰੀ ॥

ਤੇਜਵਾਨ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਧਰਤ੍ਰੀ ॥
tejavaan balavaan dharatree |There was a bright, strong and sharp-edged umbrella.
ਰੂਪਵਾਨ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
roopavaan balavaan apaaraa |(He) was very handsome and brave
ਪੂਰੋ ਪੁਰਖ ਜਗਤ ਉਜਿਯਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
pooro purakh jagat ujiyaaraa |2|And was exposed as a perfect man in the world. 2.
ਤੇਜਵਾਨ ਦੁਤਿਵਾਨ ਅਤੁਲ ਬਲ ॥
tejavaan dutivaan atul bal |He was brilliant, handsome and of immense strength.
ਅਰਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਜੀਤੇ ਜਿਨ ਦਲਿ ਮਲਿ ॥
ar anek jeete jin dal mal |He had defeated many enemies.
ਆਵਤ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਿਲੋਕ੍ਯੋ ਰਾਨੀ ॥
aavat taeh bilokayo raanee |Rani saw him coming
ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਖਾਨੀ ॥੩॥
duhitaa so ih bhaat bakhaanee |3|And said to the daughter like this. 3.
ਜੌ ਇਹ ਧਾਮ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਹੋਤੋ ॥
jau ih dhaam nripat ke hoto |If it had been (born) in the house of (a) king,
ਤੌ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਲਾਇਕ ਬਰ ਕੋ ਥੋ ॥
tau tumare laaeik bar ko tho |So it was a good year for you.
ਅਬ ਮੈ ਅਸ ਕਹ ਕਰੌ ਉਪਾਊ ॥
ab mai as kah karau upaaoo |I do the same thing now
ਐਸੋ ਬਰ ਤੁਹਿ ਆਨ ਮਿਲਾਊ ॥੪॥
aaiso bar tuhi aan milaaoo |4|That I will find you such a year. 4.

mohi rahee man maeh na pragatt jataaeiyo |She became enthralled in her mind, but did not reveal it to anyone.
ਹੋ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਤੀ ਦਿਵਸ ਗਵਾਇਯੋ ॥੫॥
ho pal pal bal bal jaatee divas gavaaeiyo |5|She spent the whole day in love with him from moment to moment. 5.

ਰੈਨਿ ਭਏ ਸਹਚਰੀ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥

ਚਿਤ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਤਿਹ ਸਕਲ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥
chit brithaa tih sakal sunaaee |And told him all the thoughts of (his) mind.
