ਕੁਪ ਕੈ ਤਿਨਿ ਮੇਘ ਬਿਦਾਰ ਦਏ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਾਖ ਲਯੋ ਜਲ ਭੀਤਰ ਹਾਥੀ ॥

kup kai tin megh bidaar de jin raakh layo jal bheetar haathee |

The Lord who protected the elephant in the water, the same, in fury, destroyed the clouds

ਜਾਹਿ ਸਿਲਾ ਲਗਿ ਪਾਇ ਤਰੀ ਜਿਹ ਰਾਖਿ ਲਈ ਦ੍ਰੁਪਤੀ ਸੁ ਅਨਾਥੀ ॥

jaeh silaa lag paae taree jih raakh lee drupatee su anaathee |

He, who with the touch of his foot, ferried across Durga-like Ahalya, he, who protected Daropati

ਬੈਰ ਕਰੈ ਜੋਊ ਪੈ ਇਹ ਸੋ ਸਭ ਗੋਪ ਕਹੈ ਇਹ ਤਾਹਿ ਅਸਾਥੀ ॥

bair karai joaoo pai ih so sabh gop kahai ih taeh asaathee |

All the Gwalas say, whoever is enmity with it, it becomes his enemy ('asathi').

ਜੋ ਹਿਤ ਸੋ ਚਿਤ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਕੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਸਾਥੀ ॥੩੮੬॥

jo hit so chit kai ih kee fun sev karai tih ko ih saathee |386|

Whosoever will be inimical towards that Krishna, the gopas said that he will not be with them and whosoever will serve Him with love and full mind, He will be on his side.386.

ਮੇਘਨ ਕੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨੰ ਦਲ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਆਂਦਾ ॥

meghan ko tab hee krisanan dal khaatir aoopar na kachhoo aandaa |

The clouds could do no harm to the army of Krishna

ਕੋਪ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਮਘਵਾ ਨ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਸੋ ਕਛੁ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਸਾਦਾ ॥

kop kariyo at hee maghavaa na chaliyo tih so kachh taeh basaadaa |

Though Indra was highly infuriated, but whatever was in his control, he could not cast any impact

ਜੋਰ ਚਲੈ ਕਿਹ ਕੋ ਤਿਹ ਸੋ ਕਹਿ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜਿਸ ਕੋ ਜਗੁ ਬਾਦਾ ॥

jor chalai kih ko tih so keh hai sabh hee jis ko jag baadaa |

Who can then have power (or use force) over Him in whose service there is the whole world

ਮੂੰਡ ਨਿਵਾਇ ਮਨੈ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਗਯੋ ਮਘਵਾ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਮਿ ਖਿਸਾਦਾ ॥੩੮੭॥

moondd nivaae manai dukh paae gayo maghavaa utth dhaam khisaadaa |387|

Therefore, with bowed head and sorrowful mind, in great embarrassment, Indra went away to his home.387.

ਸਕ੍ਰ ਗਯੋ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੰ ਕਹੁ ਫੋਰ ਦਈ ਜਬ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹਿ ਅਨੀ ॥

sakr gayo pachhutaeh grihan kahu for dee jab kaanreh anee |

When Krishna smashed the pride of Indra, then he, repenting, went to his home

ਬਰਖਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਪ ਕਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਪੈ ਸੁ ਕਛੂ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਹਿ ਏਕ ਗਨੀ ॥

barakhaa kar kop karee brij pai su kachhoo har kai neh ek ganee |

He, in great rage, showered heavy rain on Braja, but Krishna did not consider it of any significance

ਫੁਨਿ ਤਾ ਛਬਿ ਕੀ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਿਧੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਭਨੀ ॥

fun taa chhab kee at hee upamaa kab sayaam kidho ih bhaat bhanee |

Then the poet Shyam has described the very beautiful simile of that scene as Indra repenting

ਪਛਤਾਇ ਗਯੋ ਪਤਿ ਲੋਕਨ ਕੋ ਜਿਮ ਲੂਟ ਲਯੋ ਅਹਿ ਸੀਸ ਮਨੀ ॥੩੮੮॥

pachhataae gayo pat lokan ko jim loott layo eh sees manee |388|

The poet Shyam has said regarding his going away that he went repenting, like a serpent losing his glory after getting its jewel (Mani) plundered.388.

ਜਾਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ਭੇਦ ਮੁਨੀ ਮਨਿ ਭਾ ਇਹ ਜਾਪਨ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਜਾਪੀ ॥

jaeh na jaanat bhed munee man bhaa ih jaapan ko ih jaapee |

Whose secret is not known even by sages, He is chanted by all and the chanter is also the same.

ਰਾਜ ਦਯੋ ਇਨ ਹੀ ਬਲਿ ਕੋ ਇਨ ਹੀ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਧਰਾ ਸਭ ਥਾਪੀ ॥

raaj dayo in hee bal ko in hee kab sayaam dharaa sabh thaapee |

He, whose secret is not known to the sages and whose mystery cannot be realised through the repetition of all kinds of mantras, the same Krishna gave kingship to Bali and installed the earth

ਮਾਰਤ ਹੈ ਦਿਨ ਥੋਰਨ ਮੈ ਰਿਪੁ ਗੋਪ ਕਹੈ ਇਹ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ੍ਰਹ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੀ ॥

maarat hai din thoran mai rip gop kahai ih kaanrahrah prataapee |

(All) the devotees say that this glorious Krishna will kill the enemies in a few days.

ਕਾਰਨ ਯਾਹਿ ਧਰੀ ਇਹ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਮਾਰਨ ਕੋ ਜਗ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਪਾਪੀ ॥੩੮੯॥

kaaran yaeh dharee ih moorat maaran ko jag ke sabh paapee |389|

The gopas said that within a few days, this glorious Krishna will destroy all the enemies, because he has incarnated only to kill the tyrants of the world.389.

ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਜਿਹ ਸੋ ਛਲ ਪੈ ਚਤੁਰਾਨਨ ਚੋਰਿ ਲਏ ਸਭ ਗੋਪ ਦਫਾ ॥

kar kai jih so chhal pai chaturaanan chor le sabh gop dafaa |

With which once Brahma had stolen the whole congregation of the Gwalas by deception,

ਤਿਨ ਕਉਤਕ ਦੇਖਨ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੋ ਫੁਨਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਵਹ ਬੀਚ ਖਫਾ ॥

tin kautak dekhan kaaran ko fun raakh rahio vah beech khafaa |

He, from whom Brahma had concealed the gopas through deception and in order to see his amorous play, he was hidden in a cave

ਕਾਨ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੁਪਏ ਉਹ ਸੋ ਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਬਿਨ ਹੀ ਸਰ ਦੀਨ ਜਫਾ ॥

kaan binaa kupe uh so su kare bin hee sar deen jafaa |

Without being angry with him, Kanha (thought Kautaka) would not be saved now.

ਛਿਨ ਮਧਿ ਬਨਾਇ ਲਏ ਬਛਰੇ ਸਭ ਗੋਪਨ ਕੀ ਉਨ ਹੀ ਸੀ ਸਫਾ ॥੩੯੦॥

chhin madh banaae le bachhare sabh gopan kee un hee see safaa |390|

Krishna, without getting angry with him also, had astonished and puzzled him and had created the replics of those gopas and calves.390.

ਕਾਨ ਉਪਾਰਿ ਧਰਿਓ ਕਰ ਪੈ ਗਿਰਿ ਤਾ ਤਰਿ ਗੋਪ ਨਿਕਾਰਿ ਸਬੈ ॥

kaan upaar dhario kar pai gir taa tar gop nikaar sabai |

When Krishna uprooted and carried the mountain, he called all the gopas under the same

ਬਕਈ ਬਕ ਅਉਰ ਗਡਾਸੁਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਨਾਵ੍ਰਤ ਬੀਰ ਬਧੇ ਛਿਨ ਬੀਚ ਤਬੈ ॥

bakee bak aaur gaddaasur trinaavrat beer badhe chhin beech tabai |

The same Krishna had killed the brave demons like Bakasura, Gajasura, Tranavrata etc.

ਜਿਨ ਕਾਲੀ ਕੋ ਨਾਥ ਲਯੋ ਛਿਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਨ ਛਾਡਹੁ ਵਾਹਿ ਕਬੈ ॥

jin kaalee ko naath layo chhin bheetar dhiaan na chhaaddahu vaeh kabai |

He, who stringed the serpent Kali, his meditation be never forgotton from the mind

ਸਭ ਸੰਤ ਸੁਨੀ ਸੁਭ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕਥਾ ਇਕ ਅਉਰ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਅਬੈ ॥੩੯੧॥

sabh sant sunee subh kaanrah kathaa ik aaur kathaa sun lehu abai |391|

All the saints heard the auspicious story of Krishna now listen to another story.391.

ਗੋਪ ਬਾਚ ਨੰਦ ਜੂ ਸੋ ॥

gop baach nand joo so |

Speech of the gopas addressed to Nand:

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

SWAYYA

ਨੰਦ ਕੇ ਅਗ੍ਰਜ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਪਰਾਕ੍ਰਮ ਗੋਪਨ ਜਾਇ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਸਬੈ ॥

nand ke agraj kaanrah paraakram gopan jaae kahiyo su sabai |

All the warriors described the prowess of Nand Age Kanh and said,

ਦੈਤ ਅਘਾਸੁਰ ਅਉਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਨਾਵ੍ਰਤ ਯਾਹਿ ਬਧਿਯੋ ਉਡਿ ਬੀਚ ਨਭੈ ॥

dait aghaasur aaur trinaavrat yaeh badhiyo udd beech nabhai |

The gopas went to Nand and told him about the strength and glory of Krishna. They told him that Krishna had flown into the sky and killed the demons named Aghasura and Tranvrata

ਫੁਨਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਡਰੀ ਬਕਈ ਸਭ ਗੋਪਨ ਦਾਨ ਦਯੋ ਇਹ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਅਭੈ ॥

fun maar ddaree bakee sabh gopan daan dayo ih kaanrah abhai |

Then he killed Bakasura and made gopas fearless

ਸੁਨੀਐ ਪਤਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਪਾਵ ਕਰੋ ਕੋਊ ਪੈ ਇਹ ਸੋ ਸੁਤ ਨਾਹਿ ਲਭੈ ॥੩੯੨॥

suneeai pat kott upaav karo koaoo pai ih so sut naeh labhai |392|

“O the Lord of gopas! though great effort may be made, still such a son cannot be obtained.392.

ਗੋਪਨ ਕੀ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਪਤਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰੈ ਇਹ ਕੋ ਰਣਗਾਮੀ ॥

gopan kee binatee suneeai pat dhiaan dharai ih ko ranagaamee |

“O Nand! We are saying this that the warriors meditate on this Krishna

ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰੈ ਇਹ ਕੋ ਮੁਨਿ ਈਸਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰੈ ਇਹ ਕਾਇਰ ਕਾਮੀ ॥

dhiaan dharai ih ko mun eesar dhiaan dharai ih kaaeir kaamee |

Even the sages, Shive, ordinary individuals, lustful persons etc. also meditate on him

ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰੈ ਇਹ ਕੋ ਸੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਸਭ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰੈ ਇਹ ਦੇਖਨ ਬਾਮੀ ॥

dhiaan dharai ih ko su triyaa sabh dhiaan dharai ih dekhan baamee |

“All the women meditate on him

ਸਤਿ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਹਮ ਕੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਗ ਸਤਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਮਤ ਕੈ ਨਹਿ ਖਾਮੀ ॥੩੯੩॥

sat lakhiyo ham kai karataa jag sat kahiyo mat kai neh khaamee |393|

The world acknowledges him as the Creator, which is quite true, there is no flaw in it.”393.

ਹੈ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਬਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਯੋ ਸਭ ਗੋਪ ਕਹੈ ਪੁਤਨਾ ਇਨ ਮਾਰੀ ॥

hai bhagavaan balee pragattiyo sabh gop kahai putanaa in maaree |

“This mighty Lord has destroyed Putana

ਰਾਜ ਬਿਭੀਛਨ ਯਾਹਿ ਦਯੋ ਇਨ ਹੀ ਕੁਪਿ ਰਾਵਨ ਦੈਤ ਸੰਘਾਰੀ ॥

raaj bibheechhan yaeh dayo in hee kup raavan dait sanghaaree |

He killed Ravana and gave the kingdom to Vibhishana

ਰਛ ਕਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਲਾਦਹਿ ਕੀ ਇਨ ਹੀ ਹਰਨਾਖਸ ਕੀ ਉਰ ਫਾਰੀ ॥

rachh karee pralaadeh kee in hee haranaakhas kee ur faaree |

He protected Prahalada by bursting open the belly of Hiranayakashipu

ਨੰਦ ਸੁਨੋ ਪਤਿ ਲੋਕਨ ਕੈ ਇਨ ਹੀ ਹਮਰੀ ਅਬ ਦੇਹ ਉਬਾਰੀ ॥੩੯੪॥

nand suno pat lokan kai in hee hamaree ab deh ubaaree |394|

O Nand, the lord of the people! listen, He had now saved us.”394.

ਹੈ ਸਭ ਲੋਗਨ ਕੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਭੀਤਰ ਹੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਇਹ ਲੀਲਾ ॥

hai sabh logan ko karataa brij bheetar hai karataa ih leelaa |

“He is the Creater of all the people

ਸਿਖ੍ਯਨ ਕੋ ਬਰਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਸਾਧਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਤਾ ਤਨ ਹੀਲਾ ॥

sikhayan ko barataa har hai ih saadhan ko harataa tan heelaa |

On this side, the whole of Braja was fearful and he was engaged in his amorous play Krishna is the fast of the disciples and he is also the effort in the saint’s body

ਰਾਖ ਲਈ ਇਨ ਹੀ ਸੀਅ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਪਾਰਥ ਸੀਲਾ ॥

raakh lee in hee seea kee pat raakh lee triy paarath seelaa |

“He protected the high character of Sita and Daropati

ਗੋਪ ਕਹੈ ਪਤਿ ਸੋ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨੰ ਬਰ ਬੀਰ ਹਠੀਲਾ ॥੩੯੫॥

gop kahai pat so suneeai ih hai krisanan bar beer hattheelaa |395|

“O Nand! the performer of all these works is this persistent Krishna.”395.

ਦਿਨ ਬੀਤ ਗਏ ਚਕਏ ਗਿਰਿ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਬਛਰੇ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਬਨਿ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

din beet ge chake gir ke har jee bachhare sang lai ban jaavai |

“Many days elapsed after the event of carrying the mountain

ਜਿਉ ਧਰ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਘਾਸੁ ਚੁਗੈ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਮਹਾ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

jiau dhar moorat ghaas chugai bhagavaan mahaa man mai sukh paavai |

Now Krishna began to go to the forest alongwith the calves seeing the cows grazing there, the Lord (Krishna) remined absorbed in bliss in his mind

ਲੈ ਮੁਰਲੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਵ ਘਨੇ ਹਿਤ ਸਾਥ ਬਜਾਵੈ ॥

lai muralee apune kar mai kar bhaav ghane hit saath bajaavai |

With a flute in their hand and with great emotion (in their mind) they play it with love.

ਮੋਹਿ ਰਹੈ ਜੁ ਸੁਨੈ ਪਤਨੀ ਸੁਰ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਹੈ ਧੁਨਿ ਜੋ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩੯੬॥

mohi rahai ju sunai patanee sur mohi rahai dhun jo sun paavai |396|

“Taking up his flute in his hand, he played on it having filled with intensive emotion, everyone who listened to the sound of the flute, including the heavenly damsels, got allured.396.
