ਬ ਦੁਜ਼ਦੀ ਮਤਾਰਾ ਨ ਆਲੂਦਹ ਦਸਤ ॥
b duzadee mataaraa na aaloodah dasat |‘(He) does not handle the stolen goods,
ਬ ਖ਼ੁਰਸ਼ੇ ਹਰਾਮੋ ਕੁਸ਼ਾਯਦ ਨ ਦਸਤ ॥੩੪॥
b khurashe haraamo kushaayad na dasat |34|‘Because he cannot stretch his hands to grab other person’s belongings.(34)
ਬ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਦਸਤ ਖ਼ਾਹੰਦ ਨ ਗੀਰੰਦ ਮਾਲ ॥
b khud dasat khaahand na geerand maal |‘(He) does not wish to touch other people’s effects,
ਨ ਰਇਯਤ ਖ਼ਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਨ ਆਜਜ਼ ਜ਼ਵਾਲ ॥੩੫॥
n reiyat kharaashee na aajaz zavaal |35|‘He does not bother his subject and the poor are not trodden.(35)
ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਜ਼ਨ ਨ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਦਸਤ ਅੰਦਾਖ਼ਤਨ ॥
digar zan na khud dasat andaakhatan |‘Neither he mishandles other person’s woman,
ਰਈਯਤ ਖ਼ੁਲਾਸਹ ਨ ਬਰ ਤਾਖ਼ਤਨ ॥੩੬॥
reeyat khulaasah na bar taakhatan |36|‘Nor he infringes with the independence of his subject.(36)
ਬਖ਼ੁਦ ਦਸਤ ਰਿਸ਼ਵਤ ਨ ਆਲੂਦਹ ਕਰਦ ॥
bakhud dasat rishavat na aaloodah karad |‘He does not defile his hands by accepting bribes.
ਕਿ ਅਜ਼ ਸ਼ਾਹਿ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨ ਬਰਾਵੁਰਦ ਗਰਦ ॥੩੭॥
ki az shaeh dushaman baraavurad garad |37|‘Rather he raises them to put to dust the foes of the king.(37)
ਨ ਜਾਏ ਅਦੂਰਾ ਦਿਹਦ ਵਕਤ ਜੰਗ ॥
n jaae adooraa dihad vakat jang |‘In the jungle he does not give chance to the enemy,
ਬੁਬਾਰਸ਼ ਦਿਹਦ ਤੇਗ਼ ਤਰਕਸ਼ ਖ਼ਤੰਗ ॥੩੮॥
bubaarash dihad teg tarakash khatang |38|‘By throwing arrows and brandishing the sword.(38)
ਨ ਰਾਮਸ਼ ਦਿਹਦ ਅਸਪ ਰਾ ਵਕਤ ਕਾਰ ॥
n raamash dihad asap raa vakat kaar |‘During the action he do not let the horses rest,
ਨ ਜਾਯਸ਼ ਅਦੂਰਾ ਦਿਹਦ ਦਰ ਦਿਯਾਰ ॥੩੯॥
n jaayash adooraa dihad dar diyaar |39|‘And does not let the enemy enter the country.(39)
ਕਿ ਬੇ ਦਸਤ ਓ ਹਸਤ ਗੋ ਪੁਰ ਹੁਨਰ ॥
ki be dasat o hasat go pur hunar |‘The one who exists having no hands, is unblemished,
ਬ ਆਲੂਦਗੀ ਦਰ ਨ ਬਸਤਨ ਕਮਰ ॥੪੦॥
b aaloodagee dar na basatan kamar |40|‘Because he cannot not indulge in the bad deeds.(40)
ਨ ਗੋਯਦ ਕਸੇ ਬਦ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਜ਼ੀਂ ਜ਼ੁਬਾਨ ॥
n goyad kase bad sukhan zeen zubaan |‘The one who does not use one’s tongue (negatively),
ਕਿ ਓ ਬੇ ਜ਼ੁਬਾਨਸਤ ਜ਼ਾਹਰ ਜਹਾਨ ॥੪੧॥
ki o be zubaanasat zaahar jahaan |41|‘That tongue-less gets fame in the world.(41)
ਸ਼ੁਨੀਦਨ ਨ ਬਦ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਕਸਰਾ ਬਗੋਸ਼ ॥
shuneedan na bad sukhan kasaraa bagosh |‘One who does not listen to the back-biting talks,
ਕਿ ਓ ਹਸਤ ਬੇਗੋਸ਼ ਗੋਈ ਬਹੋਸ਼ ॥੪੨॥
ki o hasat begosh goee bahosh |42|‘He is like a deaf-mute.(42)
ਕਿ ਪਸ ਪਰਦਹ ਚੁਗ਼ਲੀ ਸ਼ੁਨੀਦਨ ਨ ਕਸ ॥
ki pas paradah chugalee shuneedan na kas |‘The one who does not think the ill of any body even in adversity,
ਵਜ਼ਾ ਖ਼ੁਦ ਸ਼ਨਾਸੀ ਕਿ ਗੋਈ ਸ਼ਹਸ ॥੪੩॥
vazaa khud shanaasee ki goee shahas |43|‘(He is) considered as worthy as your king.(43)
ਕਸੇ ਕਾਰ ਬਦਰਾ ਨ ਗੀਰੰਦ ਬੋਇ ॥
kase kaar badaraa na geerand boe |‘One who is not receptive to hear against any body,
ਕਿ ਓ ਹਸਤ ਬੇ ਬੀਨਿਓ ਨੇਕ ਖ਼ੋਇ ॥੪੪॥
ki o hasat be beenio nek khoe |44|‘He is without an ego and is of good nature.(44)
ਨ ਹਉਲੋ ਦਿਗ਼ਰ ਹਸਤ ਜੁਜ਼ਬਾ ਖ਼ੁਦਾਇ ॥
n haulo digar hasat juzabaa khudaae |‘Except God, one who does not fear any body,
ਕਿ ਹਿੰਮਤ ਵਰਾ ਰਾ ਦਰਾਰਦ ਜ਼ਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੪੫॥
ki hinmat varaa raa daraarad zi paae |45|‘He treads upon the enemy eliminating him in the dust.(45)
ਬ ਹੋਸ਼ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਮਦ ਹਮਹ ਵਕਤ ਜੰਗ ॥
b hosh andar aamad hamah vakat jang |‘He remains alert through out the battle,
ਕਿ ਕੋਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕੁਨਦ ਪਾਇ ਬ ਤੀਰੋ ਤੁਫ਼ੰਗ ॥੪੬॥
ki koshash kunad paae b teero tufang |46|‘And uses hands and feet to throw arrows and shoots guns.(46)
ਕਿ ਦਰਕਾਰ ਇਨਸਾਫ ਓ ਹਿੰਮਤ ਅਸਤ ॥
ki darakaar inasaaf o hinmat asat |‘To do the justice, he always girds up his lions,
ਕਿ ਦਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਗੁਰਬਾਇ ਓ ਆਜਜ਼ ਅਸਤ ॥੪੭॥
ki dar pesh gurabaae o aajaz asat |47|‘And remains meek in the company of the meek.(47)
ਨ ਹੀਲਹ ਕੁਨਦ ਵਕਤ ਦਰ ਕਾਰ ਜ਼ਾਰ ॥
n heelah kunad vakat dar kaar zaar |‘Neither he depicts any hesitation during the war,
ਨ ਹੈਬਤ ਕੁਨਦ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਨਾ ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ ॥੪੮॥
n haibat kunad dushamanaa beshumaar |48|‘Nor he gets scared while facing gigantic enemies.(48)
ਹਰਾ ਕਸ ਕਿ ਜ਼ੀਂ ਹਸਤ ਗਾਜ਼ੀ ਬਵਦ ॥
haraa kas ki zeen hasat gaazee bavad |‘If there has been such a dauntless person,
ਬ ਕਾਰੇ ਜਹਾ ਰਜ਼ਮ ਸਾਜ਼ੀ ਕੁਨਦ ॥੪੯॥
b kaare jahaa razam saazee kunad |49|‘Who remains prepared for war remaining domesticated,(49)
ਕਸੇ ਰਾ ਕਿ ਈਂ ਕਾਰ ਆਯਦ ਪਸੰਦ ॥
kase raa ki een kaar aayad pasand |‘And his operations are approved by people,
ਵਜ਼ਾ ਸ਼ਾਹਿ ਬਾਸ਼ਦ ਜਹਾ ਅਰਜ਼ਮੰਦ ॥੫੦॥
vazaa shaeh baashad jahaa arazamand |50|‘He is revered as the saviour king.’(50)
ਸ਼ੁਨੀਦ ਈਂ ਸੁਖ਼ਨ ਦਉਰ ਦਾਨਾ ਵਜ਼ੀਰ ॥
shuneed een sukhan daur daanaa vazeer |Thus he had spoken to the wise minister,
ਕਿ ਆਕਲ ਸ਼ਨਾਸ ਅਸਤ ਪੋਜ਼ਸ਼ ਪਜ਼ੀਰ ॥੫੧॥
ki aakal shanaas asat pozash pazeer |51|Who was intelligent enough to acquiesce to these exhortations.(51)
ਕਸੇ ਰਾ ਸ਼ਨਾਸਦ ਬ ਅਕਲੇ ਬਿਹੀ ॥
kase raa shanaasad b akale bihee |(Minister:) ‘Adopt a person, who manifests wisdom,
ਮਰੋ ਰਾ ਬਿਦਿਹ ਤਾਜੁ ਤਖ਼ਤੋ ਮਹੀ ॥੫੨॥
maro raa bidih taaj takhato mahee |52|‘Let him rule the earth by occupying the throne and crown.(52)
ਬ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਦ ਓ ਰਾ ਮਹੀ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਤਾਜ ॥
b bakhasheed o raa mahee takhat taaj |‘Endow him the throne and power to rule,
ਗਰ ਓ ਰਾ ਸ਼ਨਾਸੀ ਰਈਯਤ ਨਿਵਾਜ਼ ॥੫੩॥
gar o raa shanaasee reeyat nivaaz |53|‘Provided he has the ability to recognise the public.’(53)
ਬ ਹੈਰਤ ਦਰ ਆਮਦ ਬਪਿਸਰਾ ਚਹਾਰ ॥
b hairat dar aamad bapisaraa chahaar |All the four sons were amazed to hear all this.
ਕਸੇ ਗੋਇ ਗੀਰਦ ਹਮਹ ਵਕਤ ਕਾਰ ॥੫੪॥
kase goe geerad hamah vakat kaar |54|Who will pick the ball now? They pondered.(54)
ਹਰਾ ਕਸ ਕਿ ਰਾ ਅਕਲ ਯਾਰੀ ਦਿਹਦ ॥
haraa kas ki raa akal yaaree dihad |One, whose intelligence supports him,
ਬ ਕਾਰੇ ਜਹਾ ਕਾਮਗਾਰੀ ਕੁਨਦ ॥੫੫॥
b kaare jahaa kaamagaaree kunad |55|And whose desires are fulfilled.(55)
ਬਿਦਿਹ ਸਾਕੀਯਾ ਸਾਗ਼ਰੇ ਸਬਜ਼ ਰੰਗ ॥
bidih saakeeyaa saagare sabaz rang |O Saki! I am green color (meaning Harinam).
ਕਿ ਮਾਰਾ ਬਕਾਰ ਅਸਤ ਦਰ ਵਕਤ ਜੰਗ ॥੫੬॥
ki maaraa bakaar asat dar vakat jang |56|gift of a cup of (wine) which will be useful to me during the war. 56.
ਬਿਦਿਹ ਸਾਕੀਯਾ ਸਾਗ਼ਰੇ ਨੈਨ ਪਾਨ ॥
bidih saakeeyaa saagare nain paan |(The poet says), “Oh! Saki, bring me the cup full of eyes-exhilarator,
ਕੁਨਦ ਪੀਰ ਸਦ ਸਾਲਹ ਰਾ ਨਉ ਜਵਾਨ ॥੫੭॥੩॥
kunad peer sad saalah raa nau javaan |57|3|Which restores the youthful vigour in a hundred year old.(57)
