ਇਕ ਇਕ ਤੇ ਕਰਿ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਡਾਰੇ ॥
eik ik te kar dvai dvai ddaare |One by one, two pieces were broken.
ਘੋਰਾ ਸਹਿਤ ਘਾਇ ਜੋ ਘਏ ॥
ghoraa sahit ghaae jo ghe |including the horses that were killed,
ਦ੍ਵੈ ਤੇ ਚਾਰਿ ਟੂਕ ਤੇ ਭਏ ॥੧੫॥
dvai te chaar ttook te bhe |15|They were broken from two to four. 15.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਬੀਰ ਬਿਦਾਰ ਬਹੁ ਨਦੀ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਤਰਾਇ ॥
eih bidh beer bidaar bahu nadee turang taraae |Thus by killing many warriors and swimming the horse in the river
ਜਹਾ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਹੁਤੋ ਤਹੀ ਨਿਕਾਸ੍ਰਯੋ ਆਇ ॥੧੬॥
jahaa mitr ko grih huto tahee nikaasrayo aae |16|She reached there where Mitra's house was. 16.
ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਜਬ ਤਿਹ ਆਨਿ ਤੁਰੰਗਮ ਦੀਯੋ ॥
jab tih aan turangam deeyo |When he came and gave the horse
ਕਾਮ ਭੋਗ ਤਾ ਸੈ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਕੀਯੋ ॥
kaam bhog taa sai drirr keeyo |So he also interacted well with her.
ਜੌ ਪਾਛੇ ਤਿਨ ਫੌਜ ਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
jau paachhe tin fauaj nihaaree |When (Mitra) saw the army (arriving) behind him,
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੌ ਤਿਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਹਿ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥੧੭॥
eih bidh sau tih triyeh uchaaree |17|So the woman said to him like this. 17.

ਬੁਰੋ ਕਰਮ ਹਮ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੋ ਹਰਿਯੋ ॥
buro karam ham kariyo turang nrip ko hariyo |We have done a bad thing by stealing the king's horse.
ਆਪੁ ਆਪੁਨੇ ਪਗਨ ਕੁਹਾਰਾ ਕੌ ਮਰਿਯੋ ॥
aap aapune pagan kuhaaraa kau mariyo |He has axed himself on his own feet.
ਅਬ ਏ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਸਮੇਤ ਪਕਰਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ਹੈ ॥
ab e turang samet pakar lai jaae hai |Now they will take them along with the horse.
ਹੋ ਫਾਸੀ ਦੈਹੈ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਕਿ ਸੂਰੀ ਦ੍ਰਯਾਇ ਹੈ ॥੧੮॥
ho faasee daihai duhoon ki sooree drayaae hai |18|Both will be hanged or hanged on the stake. 18.

aaiso charit abai mai kar ho |I do such a character now
ਦੁਸਟਨ ਡਾਰਿ ਸਿਰ ਛਾਰਿ ਉਬਰਿ ਹੋ ॥੧੯॥
dusattan ddaar sir chhaar ubar ho |19|That we will be saved by putting ashes on the heads of the wicked. 19.
ਤਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੋ ਭੇਸ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
tahaa purakh ko bhes banaae |He put on a man's armor
ਦਲ ਕਹ ਮਿਲੀ ਅਗਮਨੇ ਜਾਇ ॥
dal kah milee agamane jaae |And the army went ahead and met.
ਕਹੀ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਸਤਰ ਉਬਾਰੋ ॥
kahee hamaaro satar ubaaro |Said save my veil ('satra').
ਔਰ ਗਾਵ ਤੇ ਸਕਲ ਨਿਹਾਰੋ ॥੨੦॥
aauar gaav te sakal nihaaro |20|And take a good look at our village. 20.
ਮਿਲਿ ਦਲ ਧਾਮ ਅਗਮਨੇ ਜਾਇ ॥
mil dal dhaam agamane jaae |After meeting the army, he reached home early
ਬਾਜ ਪਾਇ ਝਾਝਰ ਪਹਿਰਾਇ ॥
baaj paae jhaajhar pahiraae |And put cymbals in the horse's feet.
ਸਕਲ ਗਾਵ ਤਿਨ ਕਹ ਦਿਖਰਾਈ ॥
sakal gaav tin kah dikharaaee |By showing them the whole village
ਫਿਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਠੌਰਿ ਤਿਨੈ ਲੈ ਆਈ ॥੨੧॥
fir tih tthauar tinai lai aaee |21|Then she brought them there. 21.
ਪਰਦਾ ਲੇਤ ਤਾਨਿ ਆਗੇ ਤਿਨ ॥
paradaa let taan aage tin |He stretched the curtain before them
ਦੇਖਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਜਨਾਨਾ ਕਹਿ ਜਿਨ ॥
dekhahu jaae janaanaa keh jin |That no one saw the women.
ਆਗੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਭਹਿਨ ਕੇ ਬਾਜਾ ॥
aage kar sabhahin ke baajaa |By doing the horse in front of them all
ਇਹ ਛਲ ਬਾਮ ਨਿਕਾਰਿਯੋ ਰਾਜਾ ॥੨੨॥
eih chhal baam nikaariyo raajaa |22|That woman got rid of the king with this trick. 22.
ਸੋ ਆਂਗਨ ਲੈ ਤਿਨੈ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
so aangan lai tinai dikhaavai |She used to show them (a) patio
ਆਗੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਕਨਾਤ ਤਨਾਵੈ ॥
aage bahur kanaat tanaavai |And then the rope would stretch further.
ਆਗੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਜ ਨਿਕਾਰੈ ॥
aage kar kar baaj nikaarai |By pushing forward, she would push the horse further forward.
ਨੇਵਰ ਕੇ ਬਾਜਤ ਝਨਕਾਰੈ ॥੨੩॥
nevar ke baajat jhanakaarai |23|The sound of his cymbals was coming. 23.
ਬਹੂ ਬਧੂ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਵਹੁ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
bahoo badhoo tin kee vahu jaanai |That horse was thought to be his wife or daughter-in-law
ਬਾਜੀ ਕਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਨ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
baajee kah moorakh na pachhaanai |And the foolish people did not recognize the horse.
ਨੇਵਰ ਕੈ ਬਾਜਤ ਝਨਕਾਰਾ ॥
nevar kai baajat jhanakaaraa |The bells were ringing
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਨ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੨੪॥
bhed abhed na jaat bichaaraa |24|And no secret was being understood. 24.
ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਬਹੂ ਤਿਨੈ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
duhitaa bahoo tinai kar jaanai |They were considering her as daughter or daughter-in-law
ਸੁਨਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਨੇਵਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਨੈ ॥
sun sun dhun nevar kee kaanai |He heard the sound of cymbals with his ears.
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
bhed abhed kachhoo na bichaaree |They did not consider anything indiscriminately.
ਇਹ ਛਲ ਛਲੈ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਭ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੨੫॥
eih chhal chhalai purakh sabh naaree |25|In this way that woman tricked all the men. 25.
ਜਵਨ ਰੁਚਾ ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ਤ੍ਯੋਂ ਤਿਹ ਭਜਾ ॥
javan ruchaa jayon tayon tih bhajaa |(To a woman) whatever she likes, how she gets it.
ਜਿਯ ਜੁ ਨ ਭਾਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੌ ਤਜਾ ॥
jiy ju na bhaayo tih kau tajaa |What the mind does not like, it lets go.
ਇਨ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਿਤ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
ein isatreen ke charit apaaraa |The characters of these women are immense.
