ਮੁਹਰਨ ਕੇ ਕੁਲਿ ਸੁਨਤ ਉਚਰੇ ॥
muharan ke kul sunat uchare |And made it sound (full of seals) to all.
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਪਉਤ੍ਰ ਤਾ ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਤਾ ਕੇ ॥
putr pautr taa din te taa ke |His son grandson from that day
ਉਦਿਤ ਭਏ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਹ ਵਾ ਕੇ ॥੨॥
audit bhe sevaa kah vaa ke |2|Joined in his service. 2.

ਜੁ ਕਛੁ ਕਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਿਯ ਮਾਨਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
ju kachh kahai priy maanahee sevaa kareh banaae |(She) considered what she said to be pleasant and served well.
ਆਇਸੁ ਮੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਚਲੈ ਦਰਬੁ ਹੇਤ ਲਲਚਾਇ ॥੩॥
aaeis mai sabh hee chalai darab het lalachaae |3|Being greedy for money, all follow (his) permission. 3.

ਜੋ ਆਗ੍ਯਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
jo aagayaa triy karai su maanai |(That) woman who allowed, they would obey
ਜੂਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਮੁਹਰੈ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੈ ॥
jootin ko muharai pahichaanai |and recognized the shoes as seals.
ਆਜੁ ਕਾਲਿ ਬੁਢਿਯਾ ਮਰਿ ਜੈ ਹੈ ॥
aaj kaal budtiyaa mar jai hai |(They used to think that) today the old lady will die
ਸਭ ਹੀ ਦਰਬੁ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
sabh hee darab hamaaro hvai hai |4|And all the wealth will be ours. 4.
ਜਬ ਤਿਹ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਭਾਵੈ ॥
jab tih nikatt kuttanb sabhaavai |Whenever the whole family comes near him,
ਤਹ ਬੁਢਿਯਾ ਯੌ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ॥
tah budtiyaa yau bachan sunaavai |So that old woman used to tell them.
ਜਿਯਤ ਲਗੇ ਇਹ ਦਰਬ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥
jiyat lage ih darab hamaaro |This wealth is mine as long as I live.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਲੀਜਿਯਹੁ ਪੂਤ ਤਿਹਾਰੋ ॥੫॥
bahur leejiyahu poot tihaaro |5|Then O sons! (It) is yours to take. 5.
ਜਬ ਵਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਰੋਗਨੀ ਭਈ ॥
jab vahu triyaa roganee bhee |When that woman fell ill,
ਕਾਜੀ ਕੁਟਵਾਰਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਗਈ ॥
kaajee kuttavaareh keh gee |So the Qazi said to the Kotwal
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਕਰੈਹੈ ॥
karam dharam jo pratham karaihai |That first he who will do my action,
ਸੋ ਸੁਤ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਖਜਾਨੋ ਲੈਹੈ ॥੬॥
so sut bahur khajaano laihai |6|The same son will get the treasure again. 6.

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਤ ਜਬ ਲਗੇ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
karam dharam sut jab lage karai na pratham banaae |Until my actions (my) sons are done first
ਤਬ ਲੌ ਸੁਤਨ ਨ ਦੀਜਿਯਹੁ ਹਮਰੋ ਦਰਬੁ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥੭॥
tab lau sutan na deejiyahu hamaro darab bulaae |7|Until then, do not call my sons and give my money. 7.

ਕਿਤਿਕ ਦਿਨਨ ਬੁਢਿਯਾ ਮਰਿ ਗਈ ॥
kitik dinan budtiyaa mar gee |The old woman died after a few days.
ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਹ੍ਰਿਦਨ ਖੁਸਾਲੀ ਭਈ ॥
tin ke hridan khusaalee bhee |There was joy in their (grandchildren's) hearts.
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਕਰੈਹੈ ॥
karam dharam jo pratham karaihai |First, those who will do the action
ਪੁਨਿ ਇਹ ਬਾਟਿ ਖਜਾਨੋ ਲੈਹੈ ॥੮॥
pun ih baatt khajaano laihai |8|Then (they) will divide this treasure.8.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਰੇ ਅਤਿ ਧਨੁ ਸੁਤਨ ਲਗਾਇ ॥
karam dharam taa ke kare at dhan sutan lagaae |The sons spent a lot of money and did his deeds.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਪਨ੍ਰਹੀਨ ਕੇ ਛੋਰਤ ਭੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਆਇ ॥੯॥
bahur sandook panraheen ke chhorat bhe mil aae |9|Then they came together and started opening the shoelaces. 9.

ਇਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਈ ॥

ਸੁਤਨ ਦਰਬੁ ਕੌ ਲੋਭ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥
sutan darab kau lobh dikhaaee |The woman served with this character.
ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਕਛੁ ਕਰ ਆਯੋ ॥
tin ke ant na kachh kar aayo |In the end, nothing came in their hands
ਛਲ ਬਲ ਅਪਨੋ ਮੂੰਡ ਮੁੰਡਾਯੋ ॥੧੦॥
chhal bal apano moondd munddaayo |10|And shaved his head by deception. 10.

ਮਾਲਨੇਰ ਕੇ ਦੇਸ ਮੈ ਮਰਗਜ ਪੁਰ ਇਕ ਗਾਉਾਂ ॥
maalaner ke des mai maragaj pur ik gaauaan |There was a village called Margajpur in Malner country.
ਸਾਹ ਏਕ ਤਿਹ ਠਾ ਬਸਤ ਮਦਨ ਸਾਹ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥
saah ek tih tthaa basat madan saah tih naau |1|There lived a king; His name was Madan Shah. 1.
ਮਦਨ ਮਤੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਰੂਪ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
madan matee taa kee triyaa jaa ko roop apaar |Madan Mati was his wife, whose beauty was very great.
ਆਪੁ ਮਦਨ ਠਠਕੇ ਰਹੈ ਤਿਹ ਰਤਿ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥੨॥
aap madan tthatthake rahai tih rat roop bichaar |2|Kama Dev used to be surprised considering her as Rati. 2.
ਚੇਲਾ ਰਾਮ ਤਹਾ ਹੁਤੋ ਏਕ ਸਾਹ ਕੋ ਪੂਤ ॥
chelaa raam tahaa huto ek saah ko poot |A Shah's son named Chela Ram lived there
ਸਗਲ ਗੁਨਨ ਭੀਤਰ ਚਤੁਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਮਦਨ ਸਰੂਪ ॥੩॥
sagal gunan bheetar chatur sundar madan saroop |3|Who was clever in all qualities and beautiful like the form of Kama Dev. 3.

ਚੇਲਾ ਰਾਮ ਜਬੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਲਹਿਯੋ ॥
chelaa raam jabai triy lahiyo |When that woman saw Chela Ram,
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਤਬੈ ਮਦਨ ਤਨ ਗਹਿਯੋ ॥
taa ko tabai madan tan gahiyo |Since then his body was controlled by Kam Dev.
ਤਰੁਨਿ ਤਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ਲੁਭਾਈ ॥
tarun tadin te rahat lubhaaee |From that day on, the woman was enamored (of Chela Ram).
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਸਜਨ ਛਬਿ ਰਹੀ ਬਿਕਾਈ ॥੪॥
