ਸਾਠਿ ਸਹਸ੍ਰ ਰਥੀ ਹੂੰ ਕੂਟੇ ॥੨੧॥
saatth sahasr rathee hoon kootte |21|

And sixty thousand charioteers have also been killed. 21.

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਏਤੀ ਸੈਨ ਸੰਘਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਪੈਦਲ ਹਨ੍ਯੋ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
etee sain sanghaar kai paidal hanayo apaar |

After killing so many soldiers, countless infantry were killed.

ਜਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਏ ਨ ਕਾਖਿ ਤੇ ਆਏ ਨਹਿ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥੨੨॥
jan kar je na kaakh te aae neh sansaar |22|

As if (these) had not come into the world after being born from the wombs of mothers. 22.

twenty four:

ਸਭ ਹੀ ਬੀਰ ਜੁਧ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਰੇ ॥
sabh hee beer judh kar haare |

All the warriors fought and lost.

ਤਿਨ ਤੇ ਗਏ ਨ ਦਾਨੌ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
tin te ge na daanau maarai |

The giant was not killed by them.

ਖੇਤ ਛੋਰਿ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਘਰ ਗਏ ॥
khet chhor sabh hee ghar ge |

After leaving Ranbhumi, everyone went home.

ਮਤੋ ਕਰਤ ਐਸੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਏ ॥੨੩॥
mato karat aaisee bidh bhe |23|

This type of resolution starts cooking. 23.

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

Savaiya

ਕੈਸੇ ਹੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਨਿਸਾਚਰ ਜੁਧ ਸਭੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਭਟ ਹਾਰੇ ॥
kaise hoon maariyo marai na nisaachar judh sabhai kar kai bhatt haare |

‘The entire combatants lost their wills (to fight more) because the devil could not be annihilated.

ਬਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਬਰਛੀਨ ਕੇ ਭਾਤਿ ਅਨੇਕਨ ਘਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੇ ॥
baan kripaan gadaa barachheen ke bhaat anekan ghaae prahaare |

In spite of the wielding swords, maces, spears and trying to hit him many a times,

ਸੋ ਨਹਿ ਭਾਜਤ ਗਾਜਤ ਹੈ ਰਨ ਹੋਤ ਨਿਵਰਤਨ ਕ੍ਯੋ ਹੂੰ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
so neh bhaajat gaajat hai ran hot nivaratan kayo hoon nivaare |

He never ran away, instead, he roared more and more.

ਦੇਸ ਤਜੈ ਕਹੂੰ ਜਾਇ ਬਸੈ ਕਹ ਆਵਤ ਹੈ ਮਨ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੨੪॥
des tajai kahoon jaae basai kah aavat hai man mantr tihaare |24|

(Being fed up) They thought to abandon the country and go to live some where else.(24)

Chaupaee

ਇੰਦ੍ਰਮਤੀ ਬੇਸ੍ਵਾ ਤਹ ਰਹਈ ॥
eindramatee besvaa tah rahee |

A prostitute named Indramati lived there.

ਅਧਿਕ ਰੂਪ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਜਗ ਕਹਈ ॥
adhik roop taa kau jag kahee |

There used to live a lady named Indra Mati, who was so charming,

ਸੂਰਜ ਚੰਦ੍ਰ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
sooraj chandr jot jo dhaaree |

As if the light that the sun and the moon have carried,

ਜਨੁ ਯਾਹੀ ਤੇ ਲੈ ਉਜਿਯਾਰੀ ॥੨੫॥
jan yaahee te lai ujiyaaree |25|

That the Sun and the Moon appeared to have filched light from her.(25)

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

Dohira

ਤਿਨ ਬੀਰਾ ਤਹ ਤੇ ਲਯੋ ਚਲੀ ਤਹਾ ਕਹ ਧਾਇ ॥
tin beeraa tah te layo chalee tahaa kah dhaae |

She decided to participate in the fight and, wearing combative clothes,

ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਹਿਰਿ ਤਿਤ ਕੌ ਚਲੀ ਜਿਤ ਅਸੁਰਨ ਕੋ ਰਾਇ ॥੨੬॥
basatr pahir tith kau chalee jit asuran ko raae |26|

Marched to the place, where the king of devils was seated.(26)

Chaupaee

ਮੇਵਾ ਔਰ ਮਿਠਾਈ ਲਈ ॥
mevaa aauar mitthaaee lee |

(Prostitutes) taking fruits and sweets

ਮਾਟਨ ਮੋ ਧਰ ਪਰ ਭਰਿ ਦਈ ॥
maattan mo dhar par bhar dee |

She brought with her the pitchers full of sweets and dry-fruits.

ਜਹ ਫਲ ਖਾਤ ਅਸੁਰ ਕੋ ਰਾਈ ॥
jah fal khaat asur ko raaee |

Where the giant king used to eat fruit,

ਤਿਨ ਲੈ ਬਨ ਸੌ ਸਕਲ ਲਗਾਈ ॥੨੭॥
tin lai ban sau sakal lagaaee |27|

She established her camp where the devils used to come and eat the fruits.(27)

ਜਬ ਦਾਨੋ ਕੌ ਭੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਯੋ ॥
jab daano kau bhookh santaayo |

When the giant got hungry,

ਤਬ ਬਨ ਕੇ ਭਛਨ ਫਲ ਆਯੋ ॥
tab ban ke bhachhan fal aayo |

When they felt hungry, the devils came to that place,

ਮਾਟ ਫੋਰਿ ਪਕਵਾਨ ਚਬਾਇਸ ॥
maatt for pakavaan chabaaeis |

Open the pots and eat the dishes

ਮਦਰਾ ਪਿਯਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਮਨ ਭਾਇਸ ॥੨੮॥
madaraa piyat adhik man bhaaeis |28|

Finding the pitchers, they relished them and drank lot of wine.(28)

ਪੀ ਮਦਰਾ ਭਯੋ ਮਤ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥
pee madaraa bhayo mat abhimaanee |

After drinking alcohol Abhimani (giant) became impure.

ਯਹ ਜਬ ਬਾਤ ਬੇਸੁਵਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
yah jab baat besuvan jaanee |

After drinking excessively they were fully intoxicated, and when she learned this,

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਾਦਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਜਾਏ ॥
bhaat bhaat baaditr bajaae |

So he played all kinds of bells

ਗੀਤਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਤਾਨ ਕੈ ਗਾਏ ॥੨੯॥
geet anek taan kai gaae |29|

She played transcendent music and sang numerous songs.(29)

ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ਪਾਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਚਤੀ ਆਵੈ ॥
jayon jayon paatr naachatee aavai |

As the prostitute was dancing

ਤ੍ਯੋਂ ਤ੍ਯੋਂ ਦਾਨੋ ਸੀਸ ਢੁਰਾਵੈ ॥
tayon tayon daano sees dturaavai |

More the prostitute danced, more the devils were enchanted.

ਕੋਪ ਕਥਾ ਜਿਯ ਤੇ ਜਬ ਗਈ ॥
kop kathaa jiy te jab gee |

When the katha of anger (i.e. the passion for war) is gone from the mind,

ਕਰ ਕੀ ਗਦਾ ਬਖਸਿ ਕਰ ਦਈ ॥੩੦॥
kar kee gadaa bakhas kar dee |30|

When the (King) Devil’s anger had subsided, he put down his mace.(30)

ਆਈ ਨਿਕਟ ਲਖੀ ਜਬ ਪ੍ਯਾਰੀ ॥
aaee nikatt lakhee jab payaaree |

When he saw the beloved come near

ਹੁਤੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਸੋਊ ਦੈ ਡਾਰੀ ॥
hutee kripaan soaoo dai ddaaree |

When she came too close, he relinquished to her his sword as well.

ਆਯੁਧ ਬਖਸਿ ਨਿਰਾਯੁਧ ਭਯੋ ॥
aayudh bakhas niraayudh bhayo |

(He) became disarmed by giving up arms

ਯਹ ਸਭ ਭੇਦ ਤਿਨੈ ਲਖਿ ਲਯੋ ॥੩੧॥
yah sabh bhed tinai lakh layo |31|

Now, surrendering all his weapons, he became armless and this became visible to all.(31)

ਨਾਚਤ ਨਿਕਟ ਦੈਂਤ ਕੇ ਆਈ ॥
naachat nikatt daint ke aaee |

(She) came to the giant dancing

ਸਾਕਰ ਕਰ ਸੋਂ ਗਈ ਛੁਆਈ ॥
saakar kar son gee chhuaaee |

Dancing and dancing fast, she came near him and put a chain around his arms,

ਤਾ ਸੋ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਇਹ ਕੀਯੋ ॥
taa so jantr mantr ih keeyo |

He performed this jantra mantra with him

ਭੇਟ੍ਯੋ ਤਨਿਕ ਕੈਦ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਯੋ ॥੩੨॥
bhettayo tanik kaid kar leeyo |32|

And, through an incantation, tUrned him into a prisoner.(32)
