ਹੋ ਜਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਕਹ ਐਸੇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਦਿਖਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੭॥
ho jal jeevan kah aaise charitr dikhaae kai |7|In this way, by showing character to water creatures (the woman obtained gems) ॥7॥
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਕੋਟ ਦ੍ਵਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਤਸ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਬੰਧ੍ਰਯੋ ਅਪਨੋ ਗਾਉ ॥
kott dvaar kar matas drig bandhrayo apano gaau |He built his city and tied fish eyes on the door of the fort (i.e. made).
ਤਾ ਦਿਨ ਤੋ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਮਛਲੀ ਬੰਦਰ ਨਾਉ ॥੮॥
taa din to taa kau pariyo machhalee bandar naau |8|From that day he got the name 'Machali Bandar'.8.
ਖੋਜਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਤਿਹ ਭੂੰਮਿ ਤੇ ਕਾਢੇ ਰਤਨ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
khoj khoj tih bhoonm te kaadte ratan anek |He searched and extracted many gems from the earth.
ਰੰਕ ਸਭੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਭਏ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਨ ਦੁਰਬਲ ਏਕ ॥੯॥
rank sabhai raajaa bhe rahiyo na durabal ek |9|All the poor became kings and not a single weak (poor) remained. 9.

ਏਕ ਸੁਮੇਰ ਦੇਵਿ ਬਰ ਨਾਰੀ ॥

ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੁ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥
at sundar prabh aap savaaree |She was very beautiful as if the Lord himself had groomed her.
ਜੋਤਿ ਮਤੀ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਤਿਹ ਸੋਹੈ ॥
jot matee duhitaa tih sohai |He had (one) daughter named Jyoti Mati
ਦੇਵ ਅਦੇਵਨ ਕੋ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹੈ ॥੧॥
dev adevan ko man mohai |1|The mind of the gods and demons was Mohandi. 1.
ਕੋਰਿ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਤਿਹ ਸਵਤਿ ਸੁਨਿਜੈ ॥
kor kuar tih savat sunijai |He could be heard moaning called Kori Kuri.
ਬੈਰ ਭਾਵ ਤਿਨ ਮਾਝ ਭਨਿਜੈ ॥
bair bhaav tin maajh bhanijai |There was a lot of hostility among them.
ਸੋ ਰਾਨੀ ਕੋਊ ਘਾਤ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
so raanee koaoo ghaat na paavai |That queen was not getting any stake
ਜਿਹ ਛਲ ਸੋ ਤਿਹ ਸ੍ਵਰਗ ਪਠਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
jih chhal so tih svarag patthaavai |2|With which he can send him to heaven. 2.
ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਬੋਲਿ ਨਿਕਟ ਤਿਹ ਲਈ ॥
duhitaa bol nikatt tih lee |He called his daughter.
ਸਿਛਾ ਇਹੈ ਸਿਖਾਵਤ ਭਈ ॥
sichhaa ihai sikhaavat bhee |He taught this lesson
ਜਰਿਯਾ ਖੇਲਿ ਕੂਕ ਜਬ ਦੀਜੌ ॥
jariyaa khel kook jab deejau |That when you play the game of Dakni Devi ('Jariya') when you scream
ਨਾਮ ਸਵਤਿ ਹਮਰੀ ਕੌ ਲੀਜੌ ॥੩॥
naam savat hamaree kau leejau |3|So take the name of my sleep. 3.

bol savaaree sutaa khilaaee |Called the daughter in the morning and entertained her

kor kuar par kook diraaee |And gave a kick to Kori Kuri.
ਰਾਨੀ ਅਧਿਕ ਕੋਪ ਤਬ ਭਈ ॥
raanee adhik kop tab bhee |Then the queen became very angry
ਚੜਿ ਝੰਪਾਨ ਮਾਰਨ ਤਿਨ ਗਈ ॥੪॥

ਇਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਇਨ ਰਾਨਿਯਹਿ ਸਵਤਨਿ ਦਈ ਸੰਘਾਰਿ ॥

ਰਾਜ ਪਾਟ ਅਪਨੋ ਕਿਯੋ ਦੁਸਟ ਅਰਿਸਟ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥੬॥
raaj paatt apano kiyo dusatt arisatt nivaar |6|He took the kingdom as his own and eliminated evil and disruption. 6.

saah badhoo pachhim ik rahai |A Shah's wife lived in the west.
ਕਾਮਵਤੀ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਜਗ ਕਹੈ ॥
kaamavatee taa kau jag kahai |Jagatwale called her Kamvati.
ਤਾ ਕੌ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਦੇਸ ਸਿਧਾਰੋ ॥
taa kau pat parades sidhaaro |Her husband went abroad.
ਬਰਖ ਬੀਤ ਗੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਨ ਸੰਭਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
barakh beet ge grih na sanbhaaro |1|(Many) years passed, but (he) did not come home. 1.
ਸੁਧਿ ਪਤਿ ਕੀ ਅਬਲਾ ਤਜਿ ਦੀਨੀ ॥
sudh pat kee abalaa taj deenee |That woman left the news of her husband
ਸਾਮਾਨਨਿ ਕੀ ਤਿਨ ਗਤਿ ਲੀਨੀ ॥
saamaanan kee tin gat leenee |And took the trick of prostitutes ('Samanani').
ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਨਹਿ ਠੌਰ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥
aooch neech neh tthauar bichaarai |They are high and low without considering the place
ਜੋ ਚਾਹੈ ਤਿਹ ਸਾਥ ਬਿਹਾਰੈ ॥੨॥
jo chaahai tih saath bihaarai |2|She indulges with whomever she wants. 2.
ਤਬ ਲੌ ਨਾਥ ਤਵਨ ਕੋ ਆਯੋ ॥
tab lau naath tavan ko aayo |By then her husband came.
ਏਕ ਦੂਤਿਯਹਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
ek dootiyeh bol patthaayo |He called a messenger.
ਕੋਊ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਮੋਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
koaoo milaae mohi triy deejai |(Said to him) Someone give me a wife
ਜੋ ਚਾਹੈ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਸੋਊ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੩॥
jo chaahai chit mai soaoo leejai |3|And he took whatever he wanted in the Chit. 3.
ਵਾ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਦੂਤਿਯਹਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
vaa kee naar dootiyeh bhaaee |His wife Duti liked it.
ਆਨਿ ਸਾਹੁ ਕੋ ਤੁਰਤ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
aan saahu ko turat milaaee |He got married to Turat Shah.
ਸਾਹੁ ਜਬੈ ਤਿਨ ਬਾਲ ਪਛਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
saahu jabai tin baal pachhaaniyo |When that woman recognized Shah
