ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰੂਪ ਬਨਿਯੋ ਇਹ ਕੋ ਕਹ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਤਾਹਿ ਸਰਾਹਤ ਦਾਈ ॥
sundar roop baniyo ih ko kah kai ih taeh saraahat daaee |His form was extremely beautiful and everyone praised him
ਗ੍ਵਾਰ ਸਨੈ ਬਨ ਬੀਚ ਫਿਰੈ ਕਬਿ ਨੈ ਉਪਮਾ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
gvaar sanai ban beech firai kab nai upamaa tih kee lakh paaee |His form was extremely beautiful and everyone praised him
ਕੰਸਹਿ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਕੇ ਹਿਤ ਕੋ ਜਨੁ ਬਾਲ ਚਮੂੰ ਭਗਵਾਨਿ ਬਨਾਈ ॥੧੮੯॥
kanseh ke badh ke hit ko jan baal chamoon bhagavaan banaaee |189|Seeing Krishna in the forest with gopa boys the poet says that the Lord has prepared the army for killing Kansa.189.
ਕਬਿਤੁ ॥

ਕਮਲ ਸੋ ਆਨਨ ਕੁਰੰਗ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਬਾਕੇ ਨੈਨ ਕਟਿ ਸਮ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਨਾਲ ਬਾਹੈ ਐਨ ਹੈ ॥
kamal so aanan kurang taa ke baake nain katt sam kehar mrinaal baahai aain hai |His face is like lotus, the eyes are winsome, his waist is like iron and his arms are long like lotus-stalk
ਕੋਕਿਲ ਸੋ ਕੰਠ ਕੀਰ ਨਾਸਕਾ ਧਨੁਖ ਭਉ ਹੈ ਬਾਨੀ ਸੁਰ ਸਰ ਜਾਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਹਿ ਚੈਨ ਹੈ ॥
kokil so kantth keer naasakaa dhanukh bhau hai baanee sur sar jaeh laagai neh chain hai |His throat is sweet like that of a nightingale, the nostrils are like that of the parrot, the eyebrows like a bow and the speech pure like ganges
ਤ੍ਰੀਅਨਿ ਕੋ ਮੋਹਤਿ ਫਿਰਤਿ ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਆਸ ਪਾਸ ਬ੍ਰਿਹਨ ਕੇ ਦਾਹਬੇ ਕੋ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਤਿ ਰੈਨ ਹੈ ॥
treean ko mohat firat graam aas paas brihan ke daahabe ko jaise pat rain hai |On alluring the women, he moves in the neighbouring villages like the moon, moving in the sky, exciting the love-sick ladies
ਪੁਨਿ ਮੰਦਿ ਮਤਿ ਲੋਕ ਕਛੁ ਜਾਨਤ ਨ ਭੇਦ ਯਾ ਕੋ ਏਤੇ ਪਰ ਕਹੈ ਚਰਵਾਰੋ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਧੇਨ ਹੈ ॥੧੯੦॥
pun mand mat lok kachh jaanat na bhed yaa ko ete par kahai charavaaro sayaam dhen hai |190|The men of low intellect, not knowing this secret call Krishna of supreme qualities as mere cow-grazer.190.
ਗੋਪੀ ਬਾਚ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਜੂ ਸੋ ॥
gopee baach kaanrah joo so |Speech of gopis addressed to Krishna:
ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਹੋਇ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਬਧੂ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਬਾਤ ਕਹੈ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸ੍ਯਾਮੈ ॥
hoe ikatr badhoo brij kee sabh baat kahai mukh te ih sayaamai |All the women of Braj-bhoomi gathered together and began to say this to Krishna.
ਆਨਨ ਚੰਦ ਬਨੇ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਸੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨਾ ਬਸਤੋ ਸੁ ਹਿਯਾ ਮੈ ॥
aanan chand bane mrig se drig raat dinaa basato su hiyaa mai |All the women of Braja, gathering together, talk among themselves that though his face is dark, his countenance is like moon, eyes are like doe, he ever abides in our heart day and night
ਬਾਤ ਨਹੀ ਅਰਿ ਪੈ ਇਹ ਕੀ ਬਿਰਤਾਤ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਹਮ ਜਾਨ ਜੀਯਾ ਮੈ ॥
baat nahee ar pai ih kee birataat lakhiyo ham jaan jeeyaa mai |Nothing of the enemy can affect it. We have learned this truth in our hearts.
ਕੈ ਡਰਪੈ ਹਰ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਛਪਿ ਮੈਨ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਅਬ ਲਉ ਤਨ ਯਾ ਮੈ ॥੧੯੧॥
kai ddarapai har ke har ko chhap main rahiyo ab lau tan yaa mai |191|O friend! knowing about him, the fear emanates in the heart and it appears that the god of love resides in the body of Krishna.191.
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਜੂ ਬਾਚ ॥

ਸੰਗ ਹਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਸਭ ਗ੍ਵਾਰ ਕਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੀਰ ਸੁਨੋ ਇਹ ਭਈਯਾ ॥
sang halee har jee sabh gvaar kahee sabh teer suno ih bheeyaa |All the gopis went with Krishna and said to him.
ਰੂਪ ਧਰੋ ਅਵਤਾਰਨ ਕੋ ਤੁਮ ਬਾਤ ਇਹੈ ਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਸੁਰ ਗਈਯਾ ॥
roop dharo avataaran ko tum baat ihai gat kee sur geeyaa |“You are going to manifest yourself as an incarnation none can know your greatnes”
ਨ ਹਮਰੋ ਅਬ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਰੂਪ ਸਬੈ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਲਖ ਪਈਯਾ ॥
n hamaro ab ko ih roop sabai jag mai kinahoon lakh peeyaa |Krishna said, “Nobody will come to know about my personality,
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹਮ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੈ ਜੋਊ ਹੋਇ ਭਲੋ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਪਰਚਈਯਾ ॥੧੯੨॥
kaanrah kahiyo ham khel karai joaoo hoe bhalo man ko paracheeyaa |192|I just exhibit all my plays only to amuse the mind.”192.
ਤਾਲ ਭਲੇ ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥
taal bhale tih tthaur bikhai sabh hee jan ke man ke sukhadaaee |There were beautiful tanks at that place, which created place in the mind and
ਸੇਤ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਮੈ ਸਰਮਾ ਸਸਿ ਸੀ ਦਮਕਾਈ ॥
set sarovar hai at hee tin mai saramaa sas see damakaaee |Among them there was one tank gleaming with beautiful white flowers,
ਮਧਿ ਬਰੇਤਨ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਬਿ ਨੈ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਇਮ ਭਾਖਿ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥
madh baretan kee upamaa kab nai mukh te im bhaakh sunaaee |A mound was seen bulging out within that tank and seeing the white flowers it seemed to the poet that the earth,
ਲੋਚਨ ਸਉ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਕਉਤਕ ਦੇਖਨਿ ਆਈ ॥੧੯੩॥
lochan sau kar kai basudhaa har ke ih kautak dekhan aaee |193|With hundreds of eyes, has come to see the wonderful play of Krishna.193.
ਰੂਪ ਬਿਰਾਜਤ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਜਿਨ ਕੋ ਪਿਖ ਕੈ ਮਨ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਾਢੇ ॥
roop biraajat hai at hee jin ko pikh kai man aanand baadte |Krishna has an extremely beautiful form, seeing which the bliss increases
ਖੇਲਤ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਫਿਰੈ ਤਿਹ ਜਾਇ ਬਨੈ ਜਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਬਡੇ ਸਰ ਗਾਢੇ ॥
khelat kaanrah firai tih jaae banai jih tthaur badde sar gaadte |Krishna plays in the forest at those places, where there are deep tanks
ਗਵਾਲ ਹਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਰਾਜਤ ਦੇਖਿ ਦੁਖੀ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਢੇ ॥
gavaal halee har ke sang raajat dekh dukhee man ko dukh kaadte |Krishna plays in the forest at those places, where there are deep tanks
ਕਉਤੁਕ ਦੇਖਿ ਧਰਾ ਹਰਖੀ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਤਰੁ ਰੋਮ ਭਏ ਤਨਿ ਠਾਢੇ ॥੧੯੪॥
kautuk dekh dharaa harakhee tih te tar rom bhe tan tthaadte |194|The gopa boys look impressive with Krishna and seeing them, the suffering of grievous hearts is removed, observing the wonderful play of Krishna, the earth also became pleased and the trees, the symbols of the hair of the earth, also feel coolness on seei
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਤਰੈ ਤਰੁ ਕੇ ਮੁਰਲੀ ਸੁ ਬਜਾਇ ਉਠਿਯੋ ਤਨ ਕੋ ਕਰਿ ਐਡਾ ॥
kaanrah tarai tar ke muralee su bajaae utthiyo tan ko kar aaiddaa |Shri Krishna bent his body under the bridge and started playing the murli (hearing the sound of it).
ਮੋਹ ਰਹੀ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਖਗ ਅਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਛ ਸਭੈ ਅਰਨਾ ਅਰੁ ਗੈਡਾ ॥
moh rahee jamunaa khag aau har jachh sabhai aranaa ar gaiddaa |Standing aslant under a tree Krishna plays on his flute and all are allured including Yamuna, birds, serpents, yakshas and wild animals
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਸੁਨ ਕੈ ਅਰੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਗਏ ਸੁਨ ਕੈ ਜਨ ਜੈਡਾ ॥
panddit mohi rahe sun kai ar mohi ge sun kai jan jaiddaa |He, who heard the voice of the flute, whether he was a Pundit or an ordinary person, he was fascinated
ਬਾਤ ਕਹੀ ਕਬਿ ਨੈ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਮੁਰਲੀ ਇਹ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਰਾਗਨ ਪੈਡਾ ॥੧੯੫॥
baat kahee kab nai mukh te muralee ih naahin raagan paiddaa |195|The poet says that it is not the flute, it appears that it is a long path of male and female musical modes.195.
ਆਨਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਧਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਲਲਚਾਨੀ ॥
aanan dekh dharaa har ko apane man mai at hee lalachaanee |The earth, seeing the beautiful face of Krishna is enamoured of him in her mind and
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰੂਪ ਬਨਿਯੋ ਇਹ ਕੋ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਤਮਾ ਅਤਿ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਨੀ ॥
sundar roop baniyo ih ko tih te pritamaa at te at bhaanee |Thinks that because of his beautiful form, his figure is extremely radiant
ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਜੋ ਪਹਿਚਾਨੀ ॥
sayaam kahee upamaa tih kee apune man mai fun jo pahichaanee |Speaking out his mind, the poet Shyam gives this simile that the earth,
ਰੰਗਨ ਕੇ ਪਟ ਲੈ ਤਨ ਪੈ ਜੁ ਮਨੋ ਇਹ ਕੀ ਹੁਇਬੇ ਪਟਰਾਨੀ ॥੧੯੬॥
rangan ke patt lai tan pai ju mano ih kee hueibe pattaraanee |196|Clad in the garments of various colours in imagining herself becoming the chief queen of Krishna.196.
ਗੋਪ ਬਾਚ ॥
gop baach |Speech of the gopas:

ਗ੍ਵਾਰ ਕਹੀ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪੈ ਇਕ ਤਾਲ ਬਡੋ ਤਿਹ ਪੈ ਫਲ ਹਛੇ ॥
gvaar kahee binatee har pai ik taal baddo tih pai fal hachhe |One day the gopas requested Krishna saying that there is a tank, where there are planted many fruit trees
ਲਾਇਕ ਹੈ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਮੁਖ ਕੀ ਕਰੂਆ ਜਹ ਦਾਖ ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸ ਗੁਛੇ ॥
laaeik hai tumare mukh kee karooaa jah daakh daso dis guchhe |Adding that the bunches of wine there are very fit to be eaten by him
ਧੇਨੁਕ ਦੈਤ ਬਡੋ ਤਿਹ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਧੋ ਹਨਿ ਲੋਗਨ ਕੇ ਉਨ ਰਛੇ ॥
dhenuk dait baddo tih jaae kidho han logan ke un rachhe |But there lives a demon named Denuka, who kills the people
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਮਨੋ ਮਧਰੇਾਂਦ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤਿ ਤਿਨੈ ਉਠਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਸਮੈ ਵਹ ਭਛੇ ॥੧੯੭॥
putr mano madhareaand prabhaat tinai utth praat samai vah bhachhe |197|The same demon protects that tank he catches the sons of the people at night and getting up at dawn, he devours them.197.
ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਬਾਚ ॥
kaanrah baach |Speech of Krishna:
ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਜਾਇ ਕਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਜਹ ਤਾਲ ਵਹੈ ਅਰੁ ਹੈ ਫਲ ਨੀਕੇ ॥
jaae kahee tin ko har jee jah taal vahai ar hai fal neeke |Krishna told all his companions that the fruit of that tank are really good
ਬੋਲਿ ਉਠਿਓ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਮੁਸਲੀ ਸੁ ਤੋ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੇ ਨਹਿ ਹੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਫੀਕੇ ॥
bol utthio mukh te musalee su to amrit ke neh hai fun feeke |Balram also said at that time that the nectar is insipid before them
ਮਾਰ ਹੈ ਦੈਤ ਤਹਾ ਚਲ ਕੈ ਜਿਹ ਤੇ ਸੁਰ ਜਾਹਿ ਨਭੈ ਦੁਖ ਜੀ ਕੇ ॥
maar hai dait tahaa chal kai jih te sur jaeh nabhai dukh jee ke |Let us go there and kill the demon, so that the suffering of the gods in heaven (sky) be removed.
ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਿ ਚਲੇ ਤਹ ਕੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਖ ਬਜਾਇ ਸਭੈ ਮੁਰਲੀ ਕੇ ॥੧੯੮॥
hoe prasan chale tah ko mil sankh bajaae sabhai muralee ke |198|In this way, all being pleased and playing on their flutes and conches proceeded to that side.198.
