ਤਾ ਕੇ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਆਰ ਪਰ ਬੈਠੇ ॥
taa ke jaae duaar par baitthe |

He sat on the door

ਸਕਲ ਮੁਨੀ ਮੁਨੀਰਾਜ ਇਕੈਠੇ ॥੪੪੨॥
sakal munee muneeraaj ikaitthe |442|

The great sage Dutt sat at the gate of that trader alongwith many other sages.442.

ਸਾਹ ਸੁ ਦਿਰਬ ਬ੍ਰਿਤ ਲਗ ਰਹਾ ॥
saah su dirab brit lag rahaa |

(That) Shah's life was engaged in wealth.

ਰਿਖਨ ਓਰ ਤਿਨ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਯੋ ਨ ਕਹਾ ॥
rikhan or tin chitrayo na kahaa |

The mind of the trader was so much absorbed in earning money that he did not pay attention to the sages even slightly

ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਮੀਚ ਏਕੈ ਧਨ ਆਸਾ ॥
netr meech ekai dhan aasaa |

His eyes were filled with the hope of a fortune.

ਐਸ ਜਾਨੀਅਤ ਮਹਾ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੪੪੩॥
aais jaaneeat mahaa udaasaa |443|

With closed eyes he was immersed in the expectation of money like a detached hermit.443.

ਤਹ ਜੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਰਾਵ ਅਰੁ ਰੰਕਾ ॥
tah je hute raav ar rankaa |

There were those who were rich and poor,

ਮੁਨਿ ਪਗ ਪਰੇ ਛੋਰ ਕੈ ਸੰਕਾ ॥
mun pag pare chhor kai sankaa |

(All of them) cast off doubt and fell at the feet of the sage.

ਤਿਹ ਬਿਪਾਰ ਕਰਮ ਕਰ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
tih bipaar karam kar bhaaree |

(But) he had a great deal of business,

ਰਿਖੀਅਨ ਓਰ ਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪਸਾਰੀ ॥੪੪੪॥
rikheean or na drisatt pasaaree |444|

All the kings and poor people who were there, leaving all their doubts fell dwon at the feet of the sages, but that trader was so much immersed in his work that he did not even raise his eyes and see towards the sages.444.

ਤਾਸੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਦਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਊ ॥
taas dekh kar dat prabhaaoo |

Seeing his influence, Dutt

ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਹਾ ਤਜ ਕੈ ਹਠ ਭਾਊ ॥
pragatt kahaa taj kai hatth bhaaoo |

Stubbornly said clearly,

ਐਸ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੰਗ ਲਗਈਐ ॥
aais prem prabh sang lageeai |

If this kind of love is applied to the Lord,

ਤਬ ਹੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਪਈਐ ॥੪੪੫॥
tab hee purakh puraatan peeai |445|

Dutt looking at his position and impact, leaving his persistence, said openly, “If such a love is employed with the Lord, then that supreme Lord can be realized.”445.

ਇਤਿ ਸਾਹ ਬੀਸਵੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਾਪਤੰ ॥੨੦॥
eit saah beesavo guroo samaapatan |20|

End of the description of the adoption of a Trader as the Twentieth Guru.

ਅਥ ਸੁਕ ਪੜਾਵਤ ਨਰ ਇਕੀਸਵੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਥਨੰ ॥
ath suk parraavat nar ikeesavo guroo kathanan |

Now begins the description of the adoption of a parrot-instructor as the twenty-first Guru

CHAUPAI

ਬੀਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਿ ਆਗੇ ਚਲਾ ॥
bees guroo kar aage chalaa |

Having assumed twenty Gurus, (Datta) went ahead

ਸੀਖੇ ਸਰਬ ਜੋਗ ਕੀ ਕਲਾ ॥
seekhe sarab jog kee kalaa |

Adopting twenty Gurus and learning all the arts of Yoga, the sage moved further

ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਅਮਿਤੋਜੁ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੂ ॥
at prabhaav amitoj prataapoo |

He was extremely influential and amiable.

ਜਾਨੁਕ ਸਾਧਿ ਫਿਰਾ ਸਬ ਜਾਪੂ ॥੪੪੬॥
jaanuk saadh firaa sab jaapoo |446|

His glory, impact and radiance were infinite and it seemed that he had completed all the practices and was roaming, remembering the Name of the Lord.446.

ਲੀਏ ਬੈਠ ਦੇਖਾ ਇਕ ਸੂਆ ॥
lee baitth dekhaa ik sooaa |

He saw a (man) sitting with a parrot

ਜਿਹ ਸਮਾਨ ਜਗਿ ਭਯੋ ਨ ਹੂਆ ॥
jih samaan jag bhayo na hooaa |

There he saw a person seated with a parrot and for him there was none like it in the world

ਤਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਥ ਸਿਖਾਵਤ ਬਾਨੀ ॥
taa kahu naath sikhaavat baanee |

The owner was teaching him the language.

ਏਕ ਟਕ ਪਰਾ ਅਉਰ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥੪੪੭॥
ek ttak paraa aaur na jaanee |447|

That person was teaching the parrot the art of speaking he was so much concentrated that he did not know anything else.447.

ਸੰਗ ਲਏ ਰਿਖਿ ਸੈਨ ਅਪਾਰੀ ॥
sang le rikh sain apaaree |

Accompanied by an immense army of sages,

ਬਡੇ ਬਡੇ ਮੋਨੀ ਬ੍ਰਤਿਧਾਰੀ ॥
badde badde monee bratidhaaree |

In which there were big monis and bratdharis,

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਤੀਰ ਤੀਰ ਚਲਿ ਗਏ ॥
taa ke teer teer chal ge |

(Datta) moved closer to him,

ਤਿਨਿ ਨਰ ਏ ਨਹੀ ਦੇਖਤ ਭਏ ॥੪੪੮॥
tin nar e nahee dekhat bhe |448|

Dutt, taking with him the sages and a large gathering of silence-observing hermits, passed just before him, but that person did not see anyone from them.448.

ਸੋ ਨਰ ਸੁਕਹਿ ਪੜਾਵਤ ਰਹਾ ॥
so nar sukeh parraavat rahaa |

The man continued to teach the parrot.

ਇਨੈ ਕਛੂ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਕਹਾ ॥
einai kachhoo mukh te nahee kahaa |

That person kept on instructing the parrot and did not talk anything with these persons

ਨਿਰਖਿ ਨਿਠੁਰਤਾ ਤਿਹ ਮੁਨਿ ਰਾਊ ॥
nirakh nitthurataa tih mun raaoo |

Seeing her indifference, Muni Raj was thrilled with love

ਪੁਲਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਤਨ ਉਪਜਾ ਚਾਊ ॥੪੪੯॥
pulak prem tan upajaa chaaoo |449|

The absorption of that persons the love welled up in the mind of the sage.449.

ਐਸੇ ਨੇਹੁੰ ਨਾਥ ਸੋ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
aaise nehun naath so laavai |

(If one) has this kind of love for God,

ਤਬ ਹੀ ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਹੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
tab hee param purakh kahu paavai |

If such a love is applied towards the Lord, only then that Supreme Lord can be realized

ਇਕੀਸਵਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਤਾ ਕਹ ਕੀਆ ॥
eikeesavaa gur taa kah keea |

He (Datta) assumed the twenty-first Guru,

ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕਰਮ ਮੋਲ ਜਨੁ ਲੀਆ ॥੪੫੦॥
man bach karam mol jan leea |450|

Surrendering before him with mind, speech and action, the sage adopted him as his twenty-first Guru.450.

ਇਤਿ ਇਕੀਸਵੋਂ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੁਕ ਪੜਾਵਤ ਨਰ ਸਮਾਪਤੰ ॥੨੧॥
eit ikeesavon gur suk parraavat nar samaapatan |21|

End of the description of the adoption of a parrot-instructor as the Twenty-First Guru.

ਅਥਿ ਹਰ ਬਾਹਤ ਬਾਈਸਵੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਥਨੰ ॥
ath har baahat baaeesavo guroo kathanan |

Now begins the description of the adoption of Ploughman as the Twenty-Second Guru

CHAUPAI

ਜਬ ਇਕੀਸ ਕਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿਧਾਰਾ ॥
jab ikees kar guroo sidhaaraa |

When the twenty-first Guru (Datta) went forward,

ਹਰ ਬਾਹਤ ਇਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
har baahat ik purakh nihaaraa |

When after adopting his twenty-first Guru, Dutt moved further, then he saw a ploughman

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਮਹਾ ਸੁਖਕਾਰੀ ॥
taa kee naar mahaa sukhakaaree |

His wife was very pleasant

ਪਤਿ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਹੀਏ ਜਿਹ ਭਾਰੀ ॥੪੫੧॥
pat kee aas hee jih bhaaree |451|

His wife was a great comfort-giving chaste woman.451.

ਭਤਾ ਲਏ ਪਾਨਿ ਚਲਿ ਆਈ ॥
bhataa le paan chal aaee |

She was walking (like this) with allowance in hand,

ਜਨੁਕ ਨਾਥ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬੋਲ ਪਠਾਈ ॥
januk naath grih bol patthaaee |

Her husband had called her and she had come with food

ਹਰ ਬਾਹਤ ਤਿਨ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਲਹਾ ॥
har baahat tin kachhoo na lahaa |

He did not know anything about plowing (the man).

ਤ੍ਰੀਆ ਕੋ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਥ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਰਹਾ ॥੪੫੨॥
treea ko dhiaan naath prat rahaa |452|

That ploughman did not see anything else while ploughing and the attention of the wife was absorbed in her husbadd.452.
