ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੌਚ ਇਕ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਹੁਤੋ ਢਾਕਾ ਸਹਿਰ ਮੰਝਾਰ ॥
chitr kauach ik nrip huto dtaakaa sahir manjhaar |There was a king named Chitra Koch in Dhaka city
ਜਾ ਸਮ ਸੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਨ ਹੋਇਗੋ ਭਯੋ ਨ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ॥੨॥
jaa sam sundr na hoeigo bhayo na raaj kumaar |2|There was no one like Sundar Rajkumar and there will be no one. 2.
ਜਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਤੀਰਥਨ ਕੀ ਨਿਮਿਤ ਗਯੋ ਤਹ ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ॥
jaatraa teerathan kee nimit gayo tah raaj kumaar |He went on a pilgrimage to Rajkumar (once).
ਜਾਨੁਕ ਚਲਾ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਯਹ ਨੌ ਸਤ ਸਾਜ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ॥੩॥
jaanuk chalaa singaar yah nau sat saaj singaar |3|(It seemed that) it was as if the beauty had done sixteen kinds of beauty. 3.
ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ਜਹਾ ਝਰੋਖਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੁਧਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
jahaa jharokhaa raakhaa nripat sudhaar kai |(for Rana) where the king had built a window,
ਤਿਹ ਮਗ ਨਿਕਸਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੌ ਸਤ ਸਿੰਗਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
tih mag nikasaa nrip sau sat singaar kai |Through that path the king passed with sixteen decorations.
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ਤਿਹ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਬੌਰੀ ਭਈ ॥
nirakh prabhaa tih tarun adhik bauaree bhee |Seeing her beauty, that woman became Kamali
ਹੋ ਘਰ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਛੁਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਿਗਰੀ ਗਈ ॥੪॥
ho ghar baahar kee sudh chhutt kar sigaree gee |4|And he forgot all the cleanliness of the house. 4.
ਨਿਕਸਿ ਠਾਢਿ ਭੀ ਨੌ ਸਤ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰਿ ॥
nikas tthaadt bhee nau sat kuar singaar kar |That Raj Kumari also went out after wearing sixteen ornaments and stood up
ਜੋਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਚਖੁ ਚਾਰਿ ਸੁ ਲਾਜ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ॥
jor rahee chakh chaar su laaj bisaar kar |And forgetting her shame, she started connecting the four (meaning beautiful) eyes.
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਚਕਿ ਰਹਾ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਜਤਨ ॥
nirakh nripat chak rahaa tarun kete jatan |The king was surprised to see the efforts of Raj Kumari.
ਹੋ ਨਰੀ ਨਾਗਨੀ ਨਗੀ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ਕੌਨ ਮਨ ॥੫॥
ho naree naaganee nagee bichaaree kauan man |5|He started thinking in his mind that who is this human, snake or the woman of the mountain? 5.
ਚਾਰੁ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਨੀ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਮਾ ਜਾਨਿਯੈ ॥
chaar chitranee chitr kee pratimaa jaaniyai |He is a beautiful image, or image or murti
ਪਰੀ ਪਦਮਿਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਕ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਮਾਨਿਯੈ ॥

ਉਤੈ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਕਹ ਚਾਹਿ ਭਈ ਇਹ ॥

ਇਹ ਕੌ ਬਾਛਾ ਭਈ ਅਧਿਕ ਤਿਹ ॥
eih kau baachhaa bhee adhik tih |And here also tea ('bacha') was born in the queen's mind.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਠਾਢ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਹੇਰਤ ਦੋਊ ॥
pragatt tthaadt hvai herat doaoo |Both of them stood up and looked (at each other).
ਇਤ ਉਤ ਪਲ ਨ ਟਰਤ ਭਯੋ ਕੋਊ ॥੭॥
eit ut pal na ttarat bhayo koaoo |7|And for a moment no one moved here and there.7.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਇਤ ਉਤ ਠਾਢੇ ਹੇਰ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਾਤੁਰ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਤੌਨ ॥
eit ut tthaadte her dvai premaatur hvai tauan |Here and there they were both standing and looking lost in love.
ਜਨੁ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਨ ਭਟ ਭਏ ਭਾਜਿ ਚਲੇ ਕਹੁ ਕੌਨ ॥੮॥
jan sanamukh ran bhatt bhe bhaaj chale kahu kauan |8|(It looked like this) as if the two heroes were facing each other in a war, (see now) which one runs away.8.

ਲਾਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਦੁਹੁਨ ਕੀ ਭਈ ॥
laagat preet duhun kee bhee |Both fell in love.
ਅਥਿਯੋ ਸੂਰ ਰੈਨਿ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਈ ॥
athiyo soor rain hvai gee |The sun went down and it was night.
ਰਾਨੀ ਦੂਤਿਕ ਤਹਾ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
raanee dootik tahaa patthaayo |The queen sent a messenger there
ਅਧਿਕ ਸਜਨ ਸੌ ਨੇਹ ਜਤਾਯੋ ॥੯॥
adhik sajan sau neh jataayo |9|And expressed great affection towards Sajjan (Raj Kumar). 9.
ਤਿਹ ਰਾਨੀ ਸੌ ਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਅਤਿ ਹਿਤ ॥
tih raanee sau pat ko at hit |The husband was very much in love with that queen.
ਨਿਸਿ ਕਹ ਤਾਹਿ ਨ ਛਾਡਤ ਇਤ ਉਤ ॥
nis kah taeh na chhaaddat it ut |He was not allowed to go here and there at night.
ਸੋਤ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਹ ਗਰੇ ਲਗਾਏ ॥
sot sadaa tih gare lagaae |He used to sleep hugging her
ਭਾਤਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਸੌ ਹਰਖ ਬਢਾਏ ॥੧੦॥
bhaat anik sau harakh badtaae |10|And it increased enjoyment in many ways. 10.
ਰਾਨੀ ਘਾਤ ਕੋਊ ਨਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
raanee ghaat koaoo neh paavai |Rani was not getting any chance
ਜਿਹ ਛਲ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
jih chhal taa sau bhog kamaavai |That with which trick he can indulge.
ਰਾਜਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਤ ਸੰਗ ਤਾ ਕੇ ॥
raajaa sadaa sot sang taa ke |The king always slept with her.
ਕਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੰਗ ਮਿਲੈ ਇਹ ਵਾ ਕੇ ॥੧੧॥
kih bidh sang milai ih vaa ke |11|(Now) how did they go and meet him. 11.
ਬਿਨਾ ਮਿਲੇ ਤਿਹ ਕਲ ਨਹਿ ਪਰਈ ॥
binaa mile tih kal neh paree |She (the queen) was not getting peace without meeting (her).
ਰਾਜਾ ਸੋਤ ਸੰਗ ਤੇ ਡਰਈ ॥
raajaa sot sang te ddaree |She was afraid of sleeping with the king.
ਜਬ ਸ੍ਵੈ ਗਯੋ ਪਤਿਹਿ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
jab svai gayo patihi lakh paayo |When (she) saw the husband sleeping,
ਵਹੈ ਘਾਤ ਲਖਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥੧੨॥
vahai ghaat lakh taeh bulaayo |12|So he took that opportunity and called him. 12.
ਪਠੈ ਸਹਚਰੀ ਲਯੋ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥
patthai sahacharee layo bulaaee |Sent the maid and called her.
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਕਹਾ ਸਮੁਝਾਈ ॥
bahu bidh taeh kahaa samujhaaee |Explained it very well.
ਰਾਨੀ ਕਹਾ ਰਾਵ ਸੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
raanee kahaa raav so soee |The queen (the lover) explained the king thus
ਯੌ ਭਜਿਯਹੁ ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ਜਗੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੧੩॥
yau bhajiyahu jayon jagai na koee |13|That to enjoy in such a way that no one wakes up. 13.
ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੌਚ ਤਿਹ ਠਾ ਤਬ ਆਯੋ ॥
chitr kauach tih tthaa tab aayo |Then Chitra Koach (king) came to that place.
ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਨੀ ਜਾਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
raajaa raanee jaan na paayo |(In darkness) could not know which is the king and which is the queen?
