ਹੋ ਨਾਹਕ ਜਗ ਕੇ ਮਾਝ ਨ ਜਿਯਰਾ ਦੀਜਿਯੈ ॥੯॥
ho naahak jag ke maajh na jiyaraa deejiyai |9|Do not waste your life in vain in the world. 9.
ਨੇਹ ਬਿਨਾ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਹੈ ਗਏ ਬਖਾਨਿਯੈ ॥
neh binaa nrip hvai hai ge bakhaaniyai |It is said that without love, how many kings have become in the world.
ਖੜਗ ਦਾਨ ਬਿਨ ਕੀਏ ਨ ਜਗ ਮੈ ਜਾਨਿਯੈ ॥
kharrag daan bin kee na jag mai jaaniyai |No one is known in the world without donating Kharag.
ਨੇਹ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਜੂ ਕਿਯੋ ਆਜੁ ਲੌ ਗਾਇਯੈ ॥
neh krisan joo kiyo aaj lau gaaeiyai |Krishna ji made love which is known till now
ਹੋ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਜਗਤ ਕੇ ਨਾਥ ਨਾਰਿ ਨਿਹੁਰਾਇਯੈ ॥੧੦॥
ho nirakh jagat ke naath naar nihuraaeiyai |10|And thinking that he is the lord of the world, the neck ('Nari') is bowed. 10.

ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨਿਕਾਸੇ ਜਾਇ ਨਹਿ ਨੈਨਾ ਭਏ ਰੰਗੀਨ ॥੧੧॥
bahur nikaase jaae neh nainaa bhe rangeen |11|Then cannot be drawn. (Therefore) the eyes have become colored (meaning red). 11.
ਮਨ ਭਾਵਨ ਕੇ ਨੈਨ ਦੋਊ ਚੁਭੇ ਚਿਤ ਕੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
man bhaavan ke nain doaoo chubhe chit ke maeh |Both the nainas of the one who likes the mind (mitra) are present in the mind.
ਸੇਲਨ ਜ੍ਯੋਂ ਸਰਕੈ ਪਰੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਨਿਕਾਰੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧੨॥
selan jayon sarakai pare naeh nikaare jaeh |12|They have entered like spears, they cannot be taken out. 12.
ਨੈਨ ਪਿਯਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਰਧੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਕਿਯਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥
nain piyaa ke paaradhee man mai kiyaa nivaas |Beloved's eyes are hunters and have settled in the mind.
ਕਾਢਿ ਕਰੇਜਾ ਲੇਹਿ ਜਨੁ ਯਾ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਕ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸ ॥੧੩॥
kaadt karejaa lehi jan yaa te adhik bisvaas |13|As if the liver has been removed, I am very confident of it. 13.
ਨੈਨ ਪਿਯਾ ਕੇ ਪਾਲਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥
nain piyaa ke paalane kar raakhe karataar |Pritam's nain Kartar has made it as a cradle
ਜਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਜਨੁ ਝੂਲਹਿ ਘਨੇ ਹਮ ਸੇ ਬੈਠਿ ਹਜਾਰ ॥੧੪॥
jin meh jan jhooleh ghane ham se baitth hajaar |14|In which thousands of people like us sit and swing. 14.
ਨੈਨ ਰਸੀਲੇ ਰਸ ਭਰੇ ਝਲਕ ਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਦੇਹਿ ॥
nain raseele ras bhare jhalak rasan kee dehi |(Beloved's) nains are very juicy and full of juice and give glimpses of (all kinds of) juices.
ਚੰਚਲਾਨ ਕੇ ਚਿਤ ਕੌ ਚਮਕਿ ਚੁਰਾਇ ਲੇਹਿ ॥੧੫॥
chanchalaan ke chit kau chamak churaae lehi |15|They steal women's image by shining it. 15.

ਭਯੋ ਸਕਲ ਤਨ ਪੀਰ ਰਹੀ ਸੰਭਾਰਿ ਨ ਚੀਰ ਕੀ ॥
bhayo sakal tan peer rahee sanbhaar na cheer kee |The pain has spread all over the body and even the armor is not being maintained.
ਬਹਿਯੋ ਰਕਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਨੀਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਯਾ ਕੀ ਪੀਰ ਤੇ ॥੧੬॥
bahiyo rakat hvai neer prem piyaa kee peer te |16|He is drinking blood instead of water (from his eyes) due to the pain of his beloved's love. 16.
ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ਪਰਦੇਸਿਨ ਸੌ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਨਹਿ ਕਰਨੀ ॥
paradesin sau preet kahee kaahoon neh karanee |(Kumar said to the woman) One should never fall in love with foreigners.
ਪਰਦੇਸਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਕਹੀ ਨਹਿ ਬਾਤ ਉਚਰਨੀ ॥
paradesin ke saath kahee neh baat ucharanee |One should never even talk to foreigners.
ਪਰਦੇਸਿਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸਾਥ ਕਹੋ ਕ੍ਯਾ ਨੇਹ ਲਗੈਯੈ ॥
paradesin triy saath kaho kayaa neh lagaiyai |Say to a foreign woman, what love should be done.
ਹੋ ਟੂਟਿ ਤਰਕ ਦੈ ਜਾਤ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਆਪਨ ਪਛੁਤੈਯੈ ॥੧੭॥
ho ttoott tarak dai jaat bahur aapan pachhutaiyai |17|(Because he) breaks down by rushing and then he himself has to repent. 17.
ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਸੌ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਏਕੈ ਪਲ ਨੀਕੀ ॥
paradesee sau preet karee ekai pal neekee |(Another woman answers) Love made for a moment with a foreigner is also good.
ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਸੌ ਬੈਨ ਭਲੀ ਭਾਖੀ ਹਸਿ ਹੀ ਕੀ ॥
paradesee sau bain bhalee bhaakhee has hee kee |It is best to talk to a foreigner with a good smile.
ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਭਲੋ ਪਿਯ ਨੇਹ ਲਗਾਯੋ ॥
paradesee ke saath bhalo piy neh lagaayo |Oh dear! Love with a foreigner is good.
ਹੋ ਪਰਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਉਪਜਾਇ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜੋਬਨ ਨ ਬਿਤਾਯੋ ॥੧੮॥
ho param preet upajaae brithaa joban na bitaayo |18|(Therefore, with Pardesana) create a lot of love and do not spend too much time. 18.
ਹਮ ਸਾਹੁਨ ਕੇ ਪੂਤ ਦੇਸ ਪਰਦੇਸ ਬਿਹਾਰੈ ॥
ham saahun ke poot des parades bihaarai |(Then the man replied) We are the sons of kings and wander abroad.
ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਕੋਊ ਹੋਇ ਸਕਲ ਅਖਿਯਨਨ ਨਿਹਾਰੈ ॥
aooch neech koaoo hoe sakal akhiyanan nihaarai |Be it high or low, we see everything with our eyes.
ਕਹੋ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਹਮ ਸਾਥ ਨੇਹ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਕਸ ਕਰਿ ਹੌ ॥
kaho kuar ham saath neh kar kai kas kar hau |O virgin! Tell me, what will you do by making love to me?
ਹੋ ਹਮ ਜੈਹੈਂ ਉਠਿ ਕਹੀ ਬਿਰਹ ਬਾਧੀ ਤੁਮ ਜਰਿ ਹੌ ॥੧੯॥
ho ham jaihain utth kahee birah baadhee tum jar hau |19|We will get up and go somewhere and (you) will keep burning tied up in Birhon. 19.
ਰਾਨੀ ਬਾਚ ॥
raanee baach |Rani said:
ਹਮ ਨ ਤਜੈਂ ਪਿਯ ਤੁਮੈ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਤਨਨ ਜੌ ਕਰਿ ਹੌ ॥
ham na tajain piy tumai kott jatanan jau kar hau |Oh dear! I will not let you go, even if you try a million times.
ਹਸਿ ਹਸਿ ਬਾਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਛੂ ਕੀ ਕਛੂ ਉਚਰਿ ਹੌ ॥
has has baat anek kachhoo kee kachhoo uchar hau |Have a good laugh and talk about something.
ਹਮ ਰਾਚੀ ਤਵ ਰੂਪ ਰੀਝਿ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਰਹੀ ॥
ham raachee tav roop reejh man mai rahee |I am engrossed in your form and I have become happy in my mind.
ਹੋ ਇਸਕ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ਜਰੀ ਜੁਗਿਨਿ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਹੈ ਕਹੀ ॥੨੦॥
ho isak tihaare jaree jugin hvai hai kahee |20|I have burned in your love and woke up somewhere. 20.
ਕਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਗੁਮਾਨ ਬੇਗਿ ਉਠਿ ਕੈ ਚਲੋ ॥
kas kar rahe gumaan beg utth kai chalo |Why are you so suspicious, get up quickly and go.
ਹਾਰ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਬਨਾਇ ਭੇਖ ਸਜਿ ਹੈ ਭਲੋ ॥
haar singaar banaae bhekh saj hai bhalo |Decorate the necklace and wear good armor.
ਜਾਨਤ ਹੈ ਸਖੀ ਆਜੁ ਜੁ ਪਿਯਹਿ ਨ ਪਾਇ ਹੈ ॥
jaanat hai sakhee aaj ju piyeh na paae hai |Do you know if today Sakhi will not be able to get the beloved,
ਹੋ ਬੀਸ ਬਿਸ੍ਵੈ ਵਹੁ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਤਰਫਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਹੈ ॥੨੧॥
ho bees bisvai vahu tarun taraf mar jaae hai |21|(So) surely that woman will die in agony. 21.
ਸੁਨਤ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਕੋ ਬਚਨ ਕੁਅਰ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਭਯੋ ॥
sunat tarun ko bachan kuar mohit bhayo |Hearing the woman's words, Kunwar was fascinated.
ਸਖੀ ਜਿਤੈ ਲੈ ਗਈ ਚਲ੍ਯੋ ਤਿਤ ਕੌ ਗਯੋ ॥
sakhee jitai lai gee chalayo tith kau gayo |Wherever Sakhi took him, he went there.
ਬਿਰਹ ਮੰਜਰੀ ਜਹ ਥੀ ਸਾਜ ਸੁਧਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
birah manjaree jah thee saaj sudhaar kai |Where by decorating the sedge with flowers with your own hands
ਹੋ ਨਿਜੁ ਹਾਥਨ ਸੇਜਿਯਾ ਫੂਲਨ ਕਹ ਡਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥੨੨॥
ho nij haathan sejiyaa foolan kah ddaar kai |22|Birh Manjari was (sitting) in a beautiful state. 22.
ਲਏ ਗੁਰਜ ਕਹ ਹਾਥ ਕੁਅਰ ਆਵਤ ਭਯੋ ॥
le guraj kah haath kuar aavat bhayo |Kunwar came there with mace in hand
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਰਾਨੀ ਸੌ ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਤ ਭਯੋ ॥
bhaat bhaat raanee sau bhog kamaat bhayo |And indulged the queen in every way.
ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਆਸਨ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਕਰੇ ਬਨਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥
chauaraasee aasan drirr kare banaae kar |Eighty-four asanas done well
ਹੋ ਕਾਮ ਕਲਾ ਕੀ ਰੀਤ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਰਚਾਇ ਕਰ ॥੨੩॥
ho kaam kalaa kee reet su preet rachaae kar |23|And performed the ritual of Kama-Kala with love. 23.
ਤਬ ਲਗ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਨਿਕਸਿਯੋ ਆਇ ਕਰ ॥
tab lag taa kau nripat nikasiyo aae kar |By then his king had arrived.
ਕਰਿਯੋ ਗਦਾ ਕੋ ਘਾਇ ਸੁ ਕੁਅਰ ਰਿਸਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥
kariyo gadaa ko ghaae su kuar risaae kar |Kunwar struck (killed) him with a mace in anger.
ਏਕ ਚੋਟ ਭੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਜਬੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਲਿਯੋ ॥
ek chott bhe maar jabai raajaa liyo |(He) when he killed the king with one stroke
ਹੋ ਤਬ ਅਬਲਾ ਤਿਨ ਚਰਿਤ ਕਹੌ ਜਿਹ ਬਿਧ ਕਿਯੋ ॥੨੪॥
ho tab abalaa tin charit kahau jih bidh kiyo |24|So what character did that woman play, he tells. 24.
ਗਿਰੇ ਮਹਲ ਕੇ ਤਰੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਕਹ ਡਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
gire mahal ke tare nripat kah ddaar kai |Throwing the king under (a) collapsed palace
ਉਠੀ ਊਚ ਸੁਰ ਭਏ ਕੂਕ ਕਹ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
autthee aooch sur bhe kook kah maar kai |Rani stood up shouting loudly.
ਕਰ ਕਰ ਰੋਦਨ ਅਧਿਕ ਧਰਨ ਗਿਰ ਗਿਰ ਪਰੀ ॥
kar kar rodan adhik dharan gir gir paree |After crying a lot, she collapsed on the ground
ਹੋ ਮਰਿਯੋ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਰਾਜ ਦੈਵ ਗਤਿ ਕਾ ਕਰੀ ॥੨੫॥
ho mariyo hamaaro raaj daiv gat kaa karee |25|(And began to say) My king is dead, O God! What have you done? 25.
ਮਰਿਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਲੋਗ ਪਹੂਚ੍ਯੋ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥
mariyo nripat sun log pahoochayo aae kai |Hearing the death of the king, people came.
ਖੋਦਿ ਮਹਲ ਤੇ ਦੇਖੈ ਕਹਾ ਉਚਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
khod mahal te dekhai kahaa uchaae kai |Having dug up the palace, he saw (the king) and took him out.
ਟੂਟ ਟਾਟ ਸਿਰ ਗਯੋ ਨ ਇਕ ਅਸਤੁ ਉਬਰਿਯੋ ॥
ttoott ttaatt sir gayo na ik asat ubariyo |(His) head was shattered and not a single bone remained.
ਦੇਖਹੁ ਨਾਰਿ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਹਾ ਇਹ ਠਾ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੬॥
dekhahu naar charitr kahaa ih tthaa kariyo |26|Look at the woman's character, what (she) has done here. 26.
ਧਾਮ ਤਰੇ ਦਬਿ ਮਰਿਯੋ ਸਭਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
dhaam tare dab mariyo sabhan nrip jaaniyo |Everyone understood that the king had collapsed and died under the palace.
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਨ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਮੂੜ ਪਛਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
bhed abhed na kinahoon moorr pachhaaniyo |No fool recognized the difference.
ਪਰਜਾ ਪਟੁਕਨ ਬਾਧਿ ਸਿਰਨ ਪਰ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥
parajaa pattukan baadh siran par aae kai |The people (to express regret) came with bandages on their heads.
ਹੋ ਰਾਨੀ ਨਿਤਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਭਜ੍ਯੋ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੨੭॥
ho raanee nitaprat bhajayo mitr sukh paae kai |27|Rani played happily with Mitra every day. 27.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਪ ਸੰਬਾਦੇ ਦੋਇ ਸੌ ਇਕਤਾਲੀਸ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੨੪੧॥੪੫੦੦॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥
