ਨਿਜੁ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਜਤਾਈ ॥
nij nrip taa kee kathaa jataaee |And told about being king.
ਮੈ ਹੌ ਰਾਸਟ੍ਰ ਦੇਸ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
mai hau raasattr des ko raajaa |I am the king of Rastra Desa.
ਤਵ ਹਿਤ ਭੇਸ ਅਤਿਥ ਕੋ ਸਾਜਾ ॥੧੬॥
tav hit bhes atith ko saajaa |16|A saint has disguised himself for you. 16.
ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਲਗੇ ਤੁਮ ਸੌ ਹਮਰੇ ਤਬ ॥
netr lage tum sau hamare tab |Since then my eyes have been on you,
ਤਵ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਬਿੰਬੁ ਲਖੇ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜਬ ॥
tav pratibinb lakhe jal meh jab |When I saw your shadow in the water.
ਤਵ ਮੁਰਿ ਜਬ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਬਿੰਬੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
tav mur jab pratibinb nihaaraa |When you also saw my shadow (in the water),
ਗਯੋ ਮਾਰਿ ਤੁਹਿ ਮਦਨ ਕਟਾਰਾ ॥੧੭॥
gayo maar tuhi madan kattaaraa |17|You were also killed by Kama Dev at that time. 17.
ਮੁਹਿ ਲਖਿ ਧੀਰਜ ਨ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਰਹਾ ॥
muhi lakh dheeraj na tumaraa rahaa |You can't wait to see me
ਸੁਰੰਗਿ ਖੋਦਿ ਸਖਿਯਨ ਅਸ ਕਹਾ ॥
surang khod sakhiyan as kahaa |And digging the tunnel said to Sakhi thus.
ਸੋ ਗਹਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਗੀ ਤੀਰ ਤਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
so geh muhi gee teer tihaaree |She held me and took me to you.
ਚਹਤ ਜੋ ਥੋ ਸੋ ਭਈ ਪਿਯਾਰੀ ॥੧੮॥
chahat jo tho so bhee piyaaree |18|Oh dear! What you wanted, that's what happened. 18.
ਦੁਹੂੰ ਬੈਠ ਇਕ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
duhoon baitth ik mantr bichaaraa |Both of them sat and consulted.
ਮੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਲਖਿ ਗਯੋ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ॥
mai raajaa lakh gayo rakhavaaraa |I have been seen by the king's watchman.
ਪਿਯ ਪਠਾਇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਐਸ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥
piy patthaae grih aais uchaaree |(The queen) sent the man home and said thus,
ਲੋਨ ਲੇਤ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਨਾਰ ਤਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੧੯॥
lon let nrip naar tihaaree |19|O Rajan! Your queen wants to take salt. 19.
ਸੁਨਤ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਸਭ ਜਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਆਏ ॥
sunat sravan sabh jan mil aae |After listening with their ears, all the people came together
ਆਨਿ ਤਵਨ ਕਹ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥
aan tavan kah bachan sunaae |And came and said to him.
ਕਿਹ ਨਿਮਿਤ ਛਾਡਤ ਹੈ ਦੇਹੀ ॥
kih nimit chhaaddat hai dehee |What are you leaving your body for?
ਸੁਨਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਸਨੇਹੀ ॥੨੦॥
sun raajaa kee naar sanehee |20|O beloved queen of the king! 20
ਸੁਨੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਇਕ ਦਿਜ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ਮੁਹਿ ॥
sun raajaa ik dij maariyo muhi |(Queen said) O king! Listen, I have killed a Brahmin.
ਲੋਨ ਲੇਊਗੀ ਸਾਚ ਕਹੂੰ ਤੁਹਿ ॥
lon leaoogee saach kahoon tuhi |So I tell the truth, I will take it with a grain of salt.
ਜੋ ਧਨ ਹਮਰੇ ਧਾਮ ਨਿਹਾਰਹੁ ॥
jo dhan hamare dhaam nihaarahu |The wealth you see in my house,
ਸੋ ਸਭ ਗਾਡਿ ਗੋਰਿ ਮਹਿ ਡਾਰਹੁ ॥੨੧॥
so sabh gaadd gor meh ddaarahu |21|Bury them all in the grave. 21.
ਹੋਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਭ ਏਕ ਨ ਮਾਨੀ ॥
hor rahe sabh ek na maanee |All were fighting, (but he) did not obey one.
ਪਰੀ ਭੋਹਰਾ ਭੀਤਰ ਰਾਨੀ ॥
paree bhoharaa bheetar raanee |Rani fell into a frenzy.
ਆਸ ਪਾਸ ਲੈ ਲੋਨ ਬਿਥਾਰੋ ॥
aas paas lai lon bithaaro |Scattered salt around him
ਜੋ ਧਨ ਹੁਤੋ ਗਾਡਿ ਸਭ ਡਾਰੋ ॥੨੨॥
jo dhan huto gaadd sabh ddaaro |22|And he gave away all the wealth he had. 22.
ਸੁਰੰਗਿ ਸੁਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਨੀ ਤਹ ਆਈ ॥
surang surang raanee tah aaee |Rani came there through the tunnel,
ਬੈਠੇ ਜਹਾ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥
baitthe jahaa meet sukhadaaee |Where the pleasant friend sat.
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਸੰਗ ਲੌ ਤਹੀ ਸਿਧਾਰੀ ॥
taa ko sang lau tahee sidhaaree |She took him with her and went from there.
ਮੂੜ ਲੋਗ ਕਛੁ ਗਤਿ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੨੩॥
moorr log kachh gat na bichaaree |23|Foolish people did not understand (his) move. 23.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਪ ਸੰਬਾਦੇ ਤੀਨ ਸੌ ਛਿਤਾਲੀਸ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੩੪੬॥੬੪੩੩॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥

ਜਹ ਹਮ ਦਿਸਾ ਉਤਰਾ ਸੁਨੀ ॥
jah ham disaa utaraa sunee |Where we have heard the north direction,
ਰਾਜਾ ਤਹਿਕ ਬਸਤ ਥੋ ਗੁਨੀ ॥
raajaa tahik basat tho gunee |There lived a virtuous king.
ਕਲਗੀ ਰਾਇ ਜਾਹਿ ਜਗ ਭਾਖਤ ॥
kalagee raae jaeh jag bhaakhat |He was called Jagat Kalgi Rai.
ਨਾਨਾ ਦੇਸ ਕਾਨਿ ਤਿਹ ਰਾਖਤ ॥੧॥
naanaa des kaan tih raakhat |1|Many countries believed him to be his father. 1.
ਮੀਤ ਮਤੀ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਰਿ ਬਿਰਾਜੈ ॥
meet matee tih naar biraajai |His queen's name was Meet Mati,
ਜਾਹਿ ਬਿਲੋਕਿ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਲਾਜੈ ॥
jaeh bilok chandramaa laajai |Seeing which even the moon used to get shy.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਏਕ ਲਛਿਮਿਨਿ ਦਾਸੀ ॥
taa kee ek lachhimin daasee |He had a maid named Lachmani.
ਦੁਰਬਲ ਦੇਹ ਘੜੀ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥੨॥
durabal deh gharree abinaasee |2|God had made his body very weak. 2.
ਤਾ ਸੌ ਨਾਰਿ ਹੇਤੁ ਅਤਿ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
taa sau naar het at maanai |He loved the lady queen very much.
ਮੂੜ ਨ ਰਾਨੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
moorr na raanee kriaa pachhaanai |But the foolish queen did not understand his task.
ਗੁਪਤ ਲੇਤ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੁ ਛਿਮਾਹੀ ॥
gupat let daasee su chhimaahee |That maid used to take six months (salary) secretly (from the king).
ਬੁਰੀ ਬੁਰੀ ਤਿਹ ਦੇਤ ਉਗਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
buree buree tih det ugaahee |3|And he used to tell him (the king) bad things. 3.
ਤਿਹ ਰਾਨੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
tih raanee apanee kar maanai |The queen knew him as her own
ਮੂਰਖ ਤਾਹਿ ਜਸੂਸ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
moorakh taeh jasoos na jaanai |And did not consider him (the king's) spy.
ਪਰੈ ਬਾਤ ਤਾ ਕਹ ਜੇ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ॥
parai baat taa kah je sravanan |What was heard in his ears,
ਲਿਖਿ ਪਠਵੈ ਤਤਛਿਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਤਨ ॥੪॥
likh patthavai tatachhin raajaa tan |4|(She) used to write and send it to the king at the same time. 4.
ਹੁਤੇ ਦੋਇ ਦਾਸੀ ਕੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
hute doe daasee ke bhaaee |That maid had two brothers.
ਬਿਰਧ ਦੰਤ ਕਛੁ ਕਹਾ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
biradh dant kachh kahaa na jaaee |Nothing can be said about (those) with big teeth.
ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਬਰਨ ਇਕ ਦੁਤਿਯ ਕੁਰੂਪਾ ॥
sayaam baran ik dutiy kuroopaa |One was black in color and the other was ugly.
ਆਂਖੈ ਜਾਨੁ ਸੁਰਨ ਕੇ ਕੂਪਾ ॥੫॥
aankhai jaan suran ke koopaa |5|The eyes were like a well of Mano (red color) liquor.5.
ਬਗਲ ਗੰਧਿ ਤਿਨ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
bagal gandh tin te at aavai |His armpits (armpits) smelled very bad.
ਬੈਠਨ ਨਿਕਟ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
baitthan nikatt na koee paavai |No one could sit near them.
ਚੇਰੀ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਜਾਨਿ ਹਿਤ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
cheree bhraat jaan hit maanai |The maid treated them as brothers.
ਮੂੜ ਨਾਰਿ ਕਛੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੬॥
moorr naar kachh kriyaa na jaanai |6|That stupid woman did not understand any secrets. 6.
ਤਹ ਇਕ ਹੁਤੀ ਜਾਟਿ ਕੀ ਨਾਰ ॥
tah ik hutee jaatt kee naar |There used to be a Jat woman.
ਮੈਨ ਕਹਤ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
main kahat tih naam uchaar |Her name (everyone) used to say 'Maina'.
ਜਉ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਮ ਚੇਰਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਵੇ ॥
jau tih naam cher sun paave |When the maid hears his name,
ਤਹ ਤੇ ਤਾਹਿ ਟੂਕਰਾ ਜਾਵੇ ॥੭॥
tah te taeh ttookaraa jaave |7|So she would give him a piece (to eat).7.
ਤਿਨ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
tin isatree ih bhaat bichaaree |That woman thought like this
ਦਾਸੀ ਮੂੜ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਮਹਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
daasee moorr hridai meh dhaaree |And (his words) the foolish maid took it to heart.
ਭਾਇ ਖਰਚੁ ਕਛੁ ਮਾਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
bhaae kharach kachh maagat tere |If your brother asks for some expenses
ਗੁਹਜ ਪਠੈਯੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਮੇਰੇ ॥੮॥
guhaj patthaiyai kar kar mere |8|So send my hands secretly. 8.
ਤਬ ਚੇਰੀ ਐਸੋ ਤਨ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
tab cheree aaiso tan kiyo |Then the maid did the same
ਡਾਰਿ ਦਰਬ ਭੋਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਦਿਯੋ ॥
ddaar darab bhojan meh diyo |And put the money in the food (ie-hid it in the food).
ਭਾਇ ਨਿਮਿਤ ਖਰਚੀ ਪਠ ਦਈ ॥
bhaae nimit kharachee patth dee |(He) sent expenses for the brothers.
ਸੋ ਲੈ ਨਾਰਿ ਦਰਬੁ ਘਰ ਗਈ ॥੯॥
so lai naar darab ghar gee |9|After taking the money, that woman (Jat woman) went to the house. 9.
ਆਧੋ ਧਨ ਤਿਹ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਨ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
aadho dhan tih bhraatan deenaa |(He) gave half the money to his brothers
ਆਧੋ ਕਾਢਿ ਆਪਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
aadho kaadt aap triy leenaa |And half the woman took it herself.
ਮੂਰਖ ਚੇਰੀ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
moorakh cheree bhed na paavai |The foolish maid did not know the secret
