Hey Sujan! Don't tell them my story.
“Do not say anything me to them, otherwise they will die in extreme agony.”23.
When the Brahmin spoke such words,
When Shravan Kumar said these words to the king about giving (to his blind parents) then tears gushed out of his eyes.
(Dasaratha said-) I am sorry who has done such a bad deed,
The king said, “It is a disgrace for me that I have done such a deed, my royal merit has been destroyed and I am devoid of Dharma.”24.
When the king (took out the arrow from his body
When the king pulled out Shravan from the pool, then that ascetic breathed his last.
Then the king became sad in mind
Then the king became very sad and abandoned the idea of returning to his home.25.
thought that I should assume a suitable disguise
He thought in his mind that he may wear the garb of Yogi and abide in the forest forsaking his royal duties.
What is this kingdom of mine?
My roayal duties are now meaningless for me, when I have committed a bad deed by killing a Brahmin.26.
Sujan Raje then said something like this
The king then uttered these words, ‘I have brought under my control the situations of all the world, but now what hath been committed by me?
Now let's do something like this,
‘Now I should take such measures, that may cause his parents to survive.’27.
The king filled the pot (with water) and lifted it on his head
The king filled the pitcher with water and lifted it on his head and reached at the spot, where the parents of Shravan had been lying.
When cautiously approached them,
When the king reached near them with very slow steps, then they heard the voice of the moving footsteps.28.
The speech of the Brahmin addressed to the King :
PADDHRAI STANZA
O son! Ten, why the delay?
“O Son! Tell us the reason for so much delay. “Hearing these words the large-hearted king remained silent.
(The Brahmin) said again - Son! why not speak
They again said, “O son! Why do you not speak?” The king, fearing his reply to be unfavorable, again remained silent.29.
The king went to his hand and gave him water.
Coming near them, the king gave them water then on touching his hand those blind persons, .
(Then) in anger said (Tell the truth) Who are you?
Getting bewildered, asked angrily about his identity. Hearing these words, the king began to weep.30
The speech of the King addressed to the Brahmin:
PADDHRAI STANZA
Oh great Brahman! I am your son's killer,
“O eminent Brahmin! I am the killer of your son, I am the one who hast killed your son.”
I lie at (your) feet, King Dasharatha,
“I am Dasrath, seeking your refuge, O Brahmin! Do to me whatever you wish.31.
Keep if you want to keep, kill if you want to kill.
“If you want, you may protect me, otherwise kill me, I am under your shelter, I am here before you.”
Then they both said to King Dasharatha-
Then the king Dasrath, on their bidding, asked some attendant to bring good deal of wood for burning.32.
Then much wood was ordered,
A great load of wood was brought, and they (the blind parents) got prepared the funeral pyres and sat on them.
opened fire from both sides,
The fire was lighted on all the four sides and in this way those Brahmins caused the end of their lives.33.
Then he produced yoga fire from his body
They created the fire of Yoga form their bodies and wanted to be reduced to ashes.
