ਉਹ ਕੋ ਬਹੁ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਹੈ ਤਨ ਮੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਉਹਿ ਊਪਰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੈ ॥
auh ko bahu asatr sahai tan mai apane uhi aoopar sasatr karai |Krishna said loudly within his army, “Who is that warrior, who will fight with the enemy? Who will endure the blows of his arms and inflict blows on him with his weapons?”
ਨਿਜ ਪਾਨ ਮੈ ਪਾਨ ਧਰੇ ਘਨ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਸੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਬੀਰਨ ਲਾਜ ਧਰੈ ॥
nij paan mai paan dhare ghan sayaam su koe na beeran laaj dharai |
ਰਨ ਮੈ ਜਸ ਕੋ ਸੋਊ ਟੀਕੋ ਲਹੈ ਸਮਰੇਸ ਕੇ ਜੁਧ ਤੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਟਰੈ ॥੧੨੯੦॥
ran mai jas ko soaoo tteeko lahai samares ke judh te naeh ttarai |1290|Krishna was holding the betal leaf in his hand, so that some warrior may take up this responsibility, but none of the warriors thought of his honour and custom, the frontal mark of approbation will only be obtained by him, who will not run while fighting

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜੁਧੁ ਸੁਭਟਨਿ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਬਲਵਾਨ ॥
bahut judh subhattan kariyo kahaa karai balavaan |
ਆਹਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਲੀ ਹੁਤੋ ਮਾਗ ਲੀਏ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਨ ॥੧੨੯੧॥
aahav singh balee huto maag lee tih paan |1291|Many warriors have fought a great deal and the mighty Ahav Singh from amongst them asked for that betal leaf.1291.
ਕਬਿਯੋ ਬਾਚ ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਕੋਊ ਪ੍ਰਸਨ ਇਹ ਠਾ ਕਰੈ ਕਿਉ ਨ ਲਰੈ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਰਾਜ ॥

ਯਹ ਉਤਰ ਹੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਕੋ ਕਉਤੁਕ ਦੇਖਨ ਕਾਜ ॥੧੨੯੨॥
yah utar hai taeh ko kautuk dekhan kaaj |1292|Some may raise a question here – Why Krishna, the Lord of Braja, does not fight himself? The answer is – He is doing this only to see the sport himself.1292.

ਆਹਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਭਟ ਸੋ ਤਿਹ ਉਪਰ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ਧਾਯੋ ॥
aahav singh balee har ko bhatt so tih upar kop kai dhaayo |Ahav Singh, the warrior of Krishna, in his fury, fell upon Samar Singh and
ਸੰਘਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਠੀ ਹਠਿ ਸਿਉ ਨ ਹਟਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਤਹਾ ਅਤਿ ਜੁਧੁ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥
sanghar singh hatthee hatth siau na hattiyo su tahaa at judh machaayo |On the other side Samar Singh was very persistent, he also gave a terrible fight
ਆਹਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੋ ਸੰਘਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਹਾ ਅਸਿ ਲੈ ਸਿਰ ਕਾਟਿ ਗਿਰਾਯੋ ॥
aahav singh ko sanghar singh mahaa as lai sir kaatt giraayo |With his heavy dagger Samar Singh chopped Ahav Singh and knocked him down on the ground
ਐਸੇ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਧਰਿ ਪੈ ਧਰ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਬਜ੍ਰ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਭੂਅ ਕੰਪੁ ਜਨਾਯੋ ॥੧੨੯੩॥
aaise pariyo dhar pai dhar maanahu bajr pariyo bhooa kanp janaayo |1293|His trunk fell on the ground like a Vajra, as a result of which the earth trembled.1293.

ਭੂਪ ਅਨਰੁਧ ਸਿੰਘ ਠਾਢੋ ਹੁਤੋ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਤੀਰ ਹਰਿ ਜੂ ਬਿਲੋਕ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਲਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
bhoop anarudh singh tthaadto huto sayaam teer har joo bilok kai nikatt bol layo hai |The king Aniruddh Singh was standing near Krishna, seeing him, Krishna called him
ਕੀਨੋ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਘਨ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਜਾਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਰਥਹਿ ਧਵਾਇ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਰਨ ਮਾਝ ਗਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
keeno sanamaan ghan sayaam kahiyo jaahu tum ratheh dhavaae chaliyo ran maajh gayo hai |Giving him great respect, he asked him to go for fighting, receiving the command, he entered the war-arena
ਤੀਰ ਤਰਵਾਰਨ ਕੋ ਸੈਥੀ ਜਮਦਾਰਨ ਕੋ ਘਟਕਾ ਦੁਇ ਤਿਹੀ ਠਉਰ ਮਹਾ ਜੁਧੁ ਭਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
teer taravaaran ko saithee jamadaaran ko ghattakaa due tihee tthaur mahaa judh bhayo hai |A violent war was fought there with arrows, swords and lances
ਜੈਸੇ ਸਿੰਘ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਕੋ ਸਿਚਾਨੋ ਜੈਸੇ ਚਿਰੀਆ ਕੋ ਤੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਬੀਰ ਕੋ ਸਮਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੧੨੯੪॥
jaise singh mrig ko sichaano jaise chireea ko taise har beer ko samar singh hayo hai |1294|Just like a lion kills a deer or a falcon kills a sparrow, in the same manner this warrior of Krishna was killed by Samar Singh.1294.
ਜੈਸੇ ਕੋਊ ਅਉਖਦਿ ਕੇ ਬਲ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿ ਬੈਦ ਰੋਗ ਸੰਨਿਪਾਤ ਕੋ ॥
jaise koaoo aaukhad ke bal kab sayaam kahai door kare sat baid rog sanipaat ko |
ਜੈਸੇ ਕੋਊ ਸੁਕਬਿ ਕੁਕਬਿ ਕੇ ਕਬਿਤ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਭਾ ਬੀਚ ਦੂਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਤ ਨ ਬਾਤ ਕੋ ॥
jaise koaoo sukab kukab ke kabit sun sabhaa beech dookh kar maanat na baat ko |The poet Shyam says, just as someone removes a grave ailment with the help of medicine or a good poet on listening to a poem of poetaster does not appreciate it in the gathering,
ਜੈਸੇ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਗ ਕੋ ਹਨਤ ਜਲ ਆਗ ਕੋ ਅਮਲ ਸੁਰ ਰਾਗ ਕੋ ਸਚਿੰਤ ਨਰ ਗਾਤ ਕੋ ॥
jaise singh naag ko hanat jal aag ko amal sur raag ko sachint nar gaat ko |Just as a lion destroys a snake and the water destroys the fire or the intoxicating objects destroy a melodious throat,
ਤੈਸੇ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਬੀਰ ਮਾਰ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ਜੈਸੇ ਲੋਭ ਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਨਿ ਨਾਸੈ ਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਕੋ ॥੧੨੯੫॥
taise tatakaal har beer maar ddaariyo jaise lobh hoon te mahaa gun naasai tam praat ko |1295|In the same manner this warrior of Krishna was also killed by Samar Singh, the life-force went out from his body like the virtues speeding away on account of greed or the darkness running away at day-dawn.1295
