ਦਾਸਨਿ ਕੈ ਸੰਗ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਮਤਿ ਕਰਿਯਹੁ ਮਤਿਹੀਨ ॥੧੭॥
daasan kai sang dosatee mat kariyahu matiheen |17|So O Matahino! Do not make friends with slaves. 17.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਪ ਸੰਬਾਦੇ ਇਕ ਸੌ ਬਾਨਵੋ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੧੯੨॥੩੬੨੮॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥

ਤਿਰਦਸਿ ਕਲਾ ਏਕ ਬਰ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
tiradas kalaa ek bar naaree |There was a great woman named Tiradsa Kala
ਚੋਰਨ ਕੀ ਅਤਿ ਹੀ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥
choran kee at hee hitakaaree |Which was very beneficial for thieves.
ਜਹਾ ਕਿਸੂ ਕਾ ਦਰਬੁ ਤਕਾਵੈ ॥
jahaa kisoo kaa darab takaavai |Where someone's wealth is seen,
ਹੀਂਗ ਲਗਾਇ ਤਹਾ ਉਠਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੧॥
heeng lagaae tahaa utth aavai |1|She used to put hing there. 1.
ਹੀਂਗ ਬਾਸ ਤਸਕਰ ਜਹ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
heeng baas tasakar jah paavai |Where asafoetida meets thieves,
ਤਿਸੀ ਠੌਰ ਕਹ ਸਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥
tisee tthauar kah saadh lagaavai |They used to come there and take rest.
ਤਿਹ ਠਾ ਰਹੈ ਸਾਹੁ ਇਕ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
tih tthaa rahai saahu ik bhaaree |A great king lived there.
ਤ੍ਰਿਦਸਿ ਕਲਾ ਤਾਹੂ ਸੋ ਬਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
tridas kalaa taahoo so bihaaree |2|Tirdas Kala used to have fun with him. 2.
ਹੀਂਗ ਲਗਾਇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਚੋਰ ਲਗਾਏ ॥
heeng lagaae triy chor lagaae |(He put asafoetida in Shah's house) and then put thieves in it (meaning he killed thieves).
ਕਰਤੇ ਕੇਲ ਸਾਹੁ ਚਿਤ ਆਏ ॥
karate kel saahu chit aae |And the kel-krida karati got Shah's attention (i.e. Shah's theft came to mind).
ਤਾ ਸੌ ਤੁਰਤ ਖਬਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕਰੀ ॥
taa sau turat khabar triy karee |He immediately informed
ਮੀਤ ਤਿਹਾਰੀ ਮਾਤ੍ਰਾ ਹਰੀ ॥੩॥
meet tihaaree maatraa haree |3|O friend! Your money has been stolen. 3.
ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰ ਤਬ ਸਾਹੁ ਪੁਕਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
chor chor tab saahu pukaariyo |Then Shah shouted 'thief thief'
ਅਰਧ ਆਪਨੋ ਦਰਬੁ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
aradh aapano darab uchaariyo |And said (about saving half of his money).
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਤਾਹਿ ਹਿਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨ੍ਯੋ ॥
duhoonan taeh hitoo kar maanayo |Both of them considered her (the woman) as a woman
ਮੂਰਖ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਨ੍ਯੋ ॥੪॥
moorakh bhed na kaahoo jaanayo |4|And no fool understood the secret. 4.
ਅਰਧ ਬਾਟਿ ਚੋਰਨ ਤਿਹ ਦੀਨੋ ॥
aradh baatt choran tih deeno |Thieves distributed half of the money to him
ਆਧੋ ਦਰਬੁ ਸਾਹੁ ਤੇ ਲੀਨੋ ॥
aadho darab saahu te leeno |and took half the money from Shah.
ਦੁਹੂੰਅਨ ਤਾਹਿ ਲਖਿਯੋ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥
duhoonan taeh lakhiyo hitakaaree |Both considered him (their) interest.
ਮੂਰਖ ਕਿਨੂੰ ਨ ਬਾਤ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੫॥
moorakh kinoo na baat bichaaree |5|A fool did not understand the matter. 5.
ਚੋਰ ਲਾਇ ਪਾਹਰੂ ਜਗਾਏ ॥
chor laae paaharoo jagaae |(First at the Shah's house) put thieves (and then) woke the guards.
ਇਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਦੋਊ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
eih charitr te doaoo bhulaae |Both gave illusions with this character.
ਤਸਕਰ ਕਹੈ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
tasakar kahai hamaaree naaree |Thieves used to say that this is our woman
ਸਾਹੁ ਲਖ੍ਯੋ ਮੋਰੀ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
saahu lakhayo moree hitakaaree |6|And the Shah understood that I am good. 6.
ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥
doharaa |dual:
ਚੰਚਲਾਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਿਤ ਕੌ ਸਕਤ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਪਾਇ ॥
chanchalaan ke charit kau sakat na koaoo paae |No one could find the character of women.
ਵਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਲਖੈ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਸਹਾਇ ॥੭॥
vah charitr taa kau lakhai jaa ke sayaam sahaae |7|Only he can understand their character, whose God is the helper.7.
ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਖ੍ਯਾਨੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਭੂਪ ਸੰਬਾਦੇ ਇਕ ਸੌ ਤਿਰਾਨਵੋ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੧੯੩॥੩੬੩੫॥ਅਫਜੂੰ॥

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਦੇਵਰਾਨ ਹੰਡੂਰ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਏਕ ਰਹੈ ॥
devaraan handdoor ko raajaa ek rahai |There was a king of Hundur named Devran.
ਨਾਰਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਛਾ ਘਨੋ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਤਾਹਿ ਕਹੈ ॥੧॥
naaraa ko hochhaa ghano sabh jag taeh kahai |1|The whole world considered him to be a badass (that is, they considered him only interested). 1.
ਏਕ ਦਿਸਾਰਿਨ ਸੌ ਰਹੈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
ek disaarin sau rahai taa kee preet apaar |He was very much in love with a foreigner.
ਤਿਨ ਨ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ਧਾਮ ਕੋ ਆਪੁ ਗਯੋ ਬਿਸੰਭਾਰ ॥੨॥
tin na bulaayo dhaam ko aap gayo bisanbhaar |2|He did not call him home, but he himself went (to his house) like a fool. 2.
ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ਜਬ ਆਯੋ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਧਾਮ ਦਿਸਾਰਿਨਿ ਜਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
jab aayo nrip dhaam disaarin jaaniyo |When Pardesan came to know the king came home
ਨਿਜੁ ਪਤਿ ਸੌ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਭੇਦ ਬਖਾਨਿਯੋ ॥
nij pat sau sabh hee tin bhed bakhaaniyo |So she told the whole secret to her husband.
ਖਾਤ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੋ ਗਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
khaat bikhai raajaa ko geh tin ddaariyo |He caught the king and threw him into the pit
ਹੋ ਪਕਰਿ ਪਾਨਹੀ ਹਾਥ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੩॥
ho pakar paanahee haath bahut bidh maariyo |3|And holding the shoe in his hand, hit him well. 3.
ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਕੇਲ ਕਰਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੌ ਧਾਮ ਬੁਲਾਇਯੋ ॥
pratham kel kar nrip kau dhaam bulaaeiyo |First, he invited the king to his house and had sexual intercourse.
ਬਨੀ ਨ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਪਤਿ ਸੋ ਭੇਦ ਜਤਾਇਯੋ ॥
banee na taa sau pat so bhed jataaeiyo |If she did not agree with him (in any way), she told the secret to her husband.
ਪਨਿਨ ਮਾਰਿ ਖਤ ਡਾਰ ਉਪਰ ਕਾਟਾ ਦਏ ॥
panin maar khat ddaar upar kaattaa de |After hitting (him) with shoes and throwing him in a basket, he put thorns (thorns on him).
ਹੋ ਚਿਤ ਮੌ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਭਜਿ ਗਏ ॥੪॥
ho chit mau traas bichaar purakh triy bhaj ge |4|The men and women (both) ran away with fear in their hearts. 4.

ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਸਭੈ ਖੋਜਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
praat sabhai khojan nrip laage |In the morning, everyone started searching for the king.
ਰਾਨਿਨ ਸਹਿਤ ਸੋਕ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੇ ॥
raanin sahit sok anuraage |(All the workers) including the queens became grief-stricken.
ਖਤਿਯਾ ਪਰੇ ਰਾਵ ਜੂ ਪਾਏ ॥
khatiyaa pare raav joo paae |(They) saw the king lying in the pit.
