ਜੋ ਮੁਹਰਨ ਕੇ ਸਨਹਿ ਬਤਾਵੈ ॥
jo muharan ke saneh bataavai |

ਸੋ ਸਭ ਆਜੁ ਅਸਰਫੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨੩॥
so sabh aaj asarafee paavai |23|

‘The person who tells the date of minting will take over the coins.’(23)

ਸਨ ਮੁਹਰਨ ਕੋ ਬਨਿਕ ਨ ਜਾਨੋ ॥
san muharan ko banik na jaano |

ਮੂੰਦਿ ਰਹਾ ਮੁਖ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਬਖਾਨੋ ॥
moond rahaa mukh kachh na bakhaano |

As the Shah did not know the date of min ting, he closed his eye and kept his mouth shut.

Then he cried incessantly and complained ‘Oh God why have you done this to me?’(24)

ਮੁਹਰ ਅਕਬਰੀ ਏਕ ਸਤ ਜਹਾਗੀਰੀ ਸੈ ਦੋਇ ॥

(Swindler,) ‘There are one hundred Akbari coins and two hundred Jehangiri,

ਸਾਹਿ ਜਹਾਨੀ ਚਾਰਿ ਸੈ ਦੇਖ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਭ ਕੋਇ ॥੨੫॥
saeh jahaanee chaar sai dekh lehu sabh koe |25|

And four hundred are there of Shahjehani which any person can come and confirm.(25)

ਸਭਾ ਬੀਚ ਜਬ ਮੁਹਰ ਉਘਾਰੀ ॥
sabhaa beech jab muhar ughaaree |

ਸੋ ਨਿਕਰੀ ਜੋ ਠਗਹਿ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥
so nikaree jo tthageh uchaaree |

When the coins were checked in the assembly, they were found as the swindler had predicted.

ਕਾਜੀ ਛੀਨਿ ਸਾਹੁ ਤੇ ਲੀਨੀ ॥
kaajee chheen saahu te leenee |

Therefore the Quazi confiscate all those and gave them to the swindler.(26)

ਜਸ ਕਾਜੀ ਕੋ ਪਸਰਿਯੋ ਠਗ ਭਾਖ੍ਯੋ ਸਭ ਗਾਉ ॥
jas kaajee ko pasariyo tthag bhaakhayo sabh gaau |

The swindler praised the Quazi all over the town and said,

ਕੀਨੋ ਉਮਰ ਖਿਤਾਬ ਜਿਮਿ ਆਜੁ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਨ੍ਯਾਉ ॥੨੭॥
keeno umar khitaab jim aaj hamaaro nayaau |27|

‘To day he has done the justice according the Holy Book.(27)

ਠਗ ਲੈ ਕੈ ਮੁਹਰੈ ਘਰ ਆਯੋ ॥

ਤਿਨ ਕਾਜੀ ਕਛੁ ਨ੍ਯਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
tin kaajee kachh nayaae na paayo |

‘The swindler took the coins to his house and, even, the Quazi could not acquiesce the hidden truth.

ਬਨਿਯਾ ਕਾਢਿ ਸਦਨ ਤੇ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
baniyaa kaadt sadan te deenaa |

jhootthe te saachaa tthag keenaa |28|

She banished the thief from the house as the swindler had turned falsehood into truth.(28)

ਠਗਹਿ ਅਸਰਫੀ ਸਾਤ ਸੈ ਕਰ ਦੀਨੀ ਨਰਨਾਹਿ ॥
tthageh asarafee saat sai kar deenee naranaeh |

The Quazi had got him seven hundred coins which,

ਤਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਪਹਿ ਲੈ ਆਇਯੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਘਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੨੯॥
taa triy peh lai aaeiyo apane ghar ke maeh |29|

He brought home to the woman.(29)(1)

ਰੈਨ ਭਈ ਤਸਕਰ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਯੋ ॥

ਸਕਲ ਸ੍ਵਾਨ ਕੋ ਭੇਸ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
sakal svaan ko bhes banaayo |

Disguised himself as a dog.

ਸਾਹਿਜਹਾ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਪਗ ਧਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
saahijahaa ke grih pag dhaariyo |

He went to the house of Shah Jehan.

ਗਪੈ ਕਹਤ ਗਪਿਅਹਿ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧॥
gapai kahat gapieh nihaariyo |1|

He came across a talkative gossiper there.(1)

ਏਦਿਲ ਸਾਹ ਨਾਮ ਤਸਕਰ ਬਰ ॥
edil saah naam tasakar bar |

The name of the thief was Adal Shah.

ਆਯੋ ਸਾਹਿਜਹਾ ਜੂ ਕੇ ਘਰ ॥
aayo saahijahaa joo ke ghar |

He had come to the house of Shah Jehan.

ਰਾਜ ਮਤੀ ਨਾਰੀ ਹਿਤ ਗਯੋ ਤਹ ॥
raaj matee naaree hit gayo tah |

For sake of Raj Mati he reached there,

ਰਾਜਨ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੋਵਤ ਜਹ ॥੨॥
raajan ko raajaa sovat jah |2|

Where the Raja of the Rajas was slumbering.(2)

ਬਹੁਰੋ ਤਰਵਾਰਿ ਨਿਕਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਚੋਰ ਸੁ ਵਾ ਗਪਿਯਾ ਕਹ ਮਾਰਿ ਲਿਯੋ ॥
bahuro taravaar nikaar kai chor su vaa gapiyaa kah maar liyo |

Drawing the sword out, the thief killed the gossiper.

ਫੁਨਿ ਲਾਲ ਉਤਾਰਿ ਲਯੋ ਪਗਿਯਾ ਜੁਤ ਫੋਰਿ ਇਜਾਰ ਪੇ ਅੰਡ ਦਿਯੋ ॥
fun laal utaar layo pagiyaa jut for ijaar pe andd diyo |

He took away his red turban and broke an egg on the sword.

ਤਬ ਸੂਥਨਿ ਸਾਹੁ ਉਤਾਰ ਦਈ ਸਭ ਬਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੋ ਤਿਨ ਹਾਥ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
tab soothan saahu utaar dee sabh basatran ko tin haath kiyo |

The Shah took off his trousers and turned over his clothes in his hands.

ਫੁਨਿ ਗੋਸਟਿ ਬੈਠਿ ਕਰੀ ਤਿਹ ਸੌ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੇ ਹਿਤ ਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਗਾੜ ਹਿਯੋ ॥੩॥
fun gosatt baitth karee tih sau triy ke hit kai kar gaarr hiyo |3|

Then he pondered over, how, for the sake of a woman, the brawl had developed.(3)

ਸਾਹ ਲਖਾ ਬੀਰਜ ਗਿਰਾ ਕੀਨੀ ਦੂਰਿ ਇਜਾਰ ॥
saah lakhaa beeraj giraa keenee door ijaar |

As the semen had fallen on the Shah’s trousers, it was taken off.

ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਗਰਿਯਾ ਲਾਲ ਜੁਤ ਕੀਨੇ ਚੋਰ ਸੰਭਾਰ ॥੪॥
basatr pagariyaa laal jut keene chor sanbhaar |4|

And the thief took care of the red turban and all the clothes.(4)

ਬੈਠਿ ਚੋਰੁ ਅਸਿ ਕਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸੀ ॥
baitth chor as kathaa prakaasee |

ਏਕ ਚੋਰ ਦੂਜੋ ਧਰ ਫਾਸੀ ॥
ek chor doojo dhar faasee |

The thief now sat down and narrated, ‘There was one thief and there was one who was worthy of hanging (swindler),

ਏਕ ਨਾਰਿ ਸੋ ਕੇਲ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
ek naar so kel kamaavai |

ਅਪਨੀ ਜਾਨਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੫॥
apanee jaan adhik sukh paavai |5|

‘They used to manipulate a woman. Both claimed that she was there to appease their minds.(5)
