ਬਿਸਨ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕੋ ਠਹਰਾਯੋ ॥
bisan aap hee ko tthaharaayo |Mahadeo (Shiva) was called Achyuta (blotless), Vishnu considered himself the Supreme.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਆਪ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਖਾਨਾ ॥
brahamaa aap paarabraham bakhaanaa |Brahma called himself Parbraham
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੮॥
prabh ko prabhoo na kinahoon jaanaa |8|Brahma called himself Para Brahman, none could comprehend the Lord.8.
ਤਬ ਸਾਖੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਸਟ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
tab saakhee prabh asatt banaae |Then (God) created the eight Sakhis (Moon, Sun, Earth, Dhruva, Agni, Pawan, Pratyusha and Prabhasa).
ਸਾਖ ਨਮਿਤ ਦੇਬੇ ਠਹਿਰਾਏ ॥
saakh namit debe tthahiraae |Then I created eight Sakshis in order to give evidence of my Entity.
ਤੇ ਕਹੈ ਕਰੋ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
te kahai karo hamaaree poojaa |(They also) started saying worship us
ਹਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੯॥
ham bin avar na tthaakur doojaa |9|But they considered themselves all in all and aasked the people to worship them.9.
ਪਰਮ ਤਤ ਕੋ ਜਿਨ ਨ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
param tat ko jin na pachhaanaa |Those who have not recognized the Supreme,
ਤਿਨ ਕਰਿ ਈਸੁਰ ਤਿਨ ਕਹੁ ਮਾਨਾ ॥
tin kar eesur tin kahu maanaa |Those who did not comprehend the Lord, they were considered as Ishvara.
ਕੇਤੇ ਸੂਰ ਚੰਦ ਕਹੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
kete soor chand kahu maanai |How many people start believing in the moon and the sun.
ਅਗਨਹੋਤ੍ਰ ਕਈ ਪਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨੈ ॥੧੦॥
aganahotr kee pavan pramaanai |10|Several people worshipped the sun and the moon and several others worshipped Fire and Ait.10.
ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਹਿਨ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਾ ॥
kinahoon prabh paahin pahichaanaa |Some identified the stone as Lord
ਨ੍ਰਹਾਤ ਕਿਤੇ ਜਲ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
nrahaat kite jal karat bidhaanaa |Several them considered God as stone and several others bathed considering the Lordship of Water.
ਕੇਤਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਡਰਪਾਨਾ ॥
ketik karam karat ddarapaanaa |They were afraid while doing many deeds
ਧਰਮ ਰਾਜ ਕੋ ਧਰਮ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੧੧॥
dharam raaj ko dharam pachhaanaa |11|Considering Dharmaraja as the Supreme representative of Dharma, several bore fear of him in their actions. 11.
ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਖ ਨਮਿਤ ਠਹਰਾਏ ॥
je prabh saakh namit tthaharaae |which the Lord established to bear witness,
ਤੇ ਹਿਆਂ ਆਇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਹਵਾਏ ॥
te hiaan aae prabhoo kahavaae |All those whom God established for the revelation of His Supremacy, they themselves were called Supreme.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਬਿਸਰ ਜਾਤੀ ਭੀ ॥
taa kee baat bisar jaatee bhee |(They) forgot about the Lord
ਅਪਨੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਪਰਤ ਸੋਭ ਭੀ ॥੧੨॥
apanee apanee parat sobh bhee |12|They forgot the Lord in their race for supremacy. 12
ਜਬ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋ ਨ ਤਿਨੈ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਾ ॥
jab prabh ko na tinai pahichaanaa |When they did not recognize the Lord
ਤਬ ਹਰਿ ਇਨ ਮਨੁਛਨ ਠਹਰਾਨਾ ॥
tab har in manuchhan tthaharaanaa |When they did not comprehend the Lord, then I established human beings in their place.
ਤੇ ਭੀ ਬਸਿ ਮਮਤਾ ਹੁਇ ਗਏ ॥
te bhee bas mamataa hue ge |They also settled for Mamata
ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਪਾਹਨ ਠਹਰਏ ॥੧੩॥
paramesur paahan tthahare |13|They also were overpowered by ‘mineness’ and exhibited the Lord in statues.13.
ਤਬ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧ ਠਹਿਰਾਏ ॥
tab har sidh saadh tthahiraae |Then Hari produced Siddha and Sadha
ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਹਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
tin bhee param purakh neh paae |Then I created Siddhas and sadhs, who also could not realize the Lord.
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਤਿ ਭਯੋ ਜਗਿ ਸਿਆਨਾ ॥
je koee hot bhayo jag siaanaa |If someone is wise in the world
ਤਿਨ ਤਿਨ ਅਪਨੋ ਪੰਥੁ ਚਲਾਨਾ ॥੧੪॥
tin tin apano panth chalaanaa |14|On whomsoever wisdom dawned, he started his own path. 14.
ਪਰਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨਹ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
param purakh kinahoon nah paayo |No one has attained the Supreme Being
ਬੈਰ ਬਾਦ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਬਢਾਯੋ ॥
bair baad hankaar badtaayo |None could realise the Supreme Lord, but instead spread strife, enmity and ego.
ਪੇਡ ਪਾਤ ਆਪਨ ਤੇ ਜਲੈ ॥
pedd paat aapan te jalai |(As) the leaves of the branches burn by themselves (in the same way those people burned because of their vices).
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਪੰਥ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਚਲੈ ॥੧੫॥
prabh kai panth na koaoo chalai |15|The tree and the leaves began to burn, because of the inner fire.None followed the path of the Lord.15.
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਤਨਿਕਿ ਸਿਧ ਕੋ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
jin jin tanik sidh ko paayo |He who has attained Rata Ku Siddhi,
ਤਿਨਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਅਪਨਾ ਰਾਹੁ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥
tin tin apanaa raahu chalaayo |Whosoever attained a little spiritual power, he started his own ptah.
ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਨ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਾ ॥
paramesur na kinahoon pahichaanaa |No one recognized God
ਮਮ ਉਚਾਰਿ ਤੇ ਭਯੋ ਦਿਵਾਨਾ ॥੧੬॥
mam uchaar te bhayo divaanaa |16|None could comprehend the Lord, but instead became mad with ‘I-ness’.16.
ਪਰਮ ਤਤ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਨ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
param tat kinahoon na pachhaanaa |No one recognized the Supreme Power,
ਆਪ ਆਪ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਉਰਝਾਨਾ ॥
aap aap bheetar urajhaanaa |Nobody recognized the Supreme Essence, but was entangled within himself.
ਤਬ ਜੇ ਜੇ ਰਿਖਿ ਰਾਜ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
tab je je rikh raaj banaae |Then those who were made royal sages,
ਤਿਨ ਆਪਨ ਪੁਨਿ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਚਲਾਏ ॥੧੭॥
tin aapan pun sinmrit chalaae |17|All the great rishis (sages), who were then created, produced their own Smritis.17.
ਜੇ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਤਨ ਕੇ ਭਏ ਅਨੁਰਾਗੀ ॥
je sinmratan ke bhe anuraagee |Those who fell in love in (those) Smritis,
ਤਿਨ ਤਿਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥
tin tin kriaa braham kee tiaagee |All those who became followers of these smritis, they abandoned the path of the Lord.
ਜਿਨ ਮਨੁ ਹਰ ਚਰਨਨ ਠਹਰਾਯੋ ॥
jin man har charanan tthaharaayo |Those who attached their mind to Hari Charana,
ਸੋ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਨ ਕੇ ਰਾਹ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥੧੮॥
so sinmritan ke raah na aayo |18|Those who devoted themselves to the Feet of the Lord, they did not adopt the path of the Smritis.18.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਚਾਰ ਹੀ ਬੇਦ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
brahamaa chaar hee bed banaae |Brahma composed the four Vedas
ਸਰਬ ਲੋਕ ਤਿਹ ਕਰਮ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
sarab lok tih karam chalaae |Brahma composed all the four Vedas, all the people followed the injunctions contained in them.
ਜਿਨ ਕੀ ਲਿਵ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨਨ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
jin kee liv har charanan laagee |(But) whose lives were taken with every step,
ਤੇ ਬੇਦਨ ਤੇ ਭਏ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥੧੯॥
te bedan te bhe tiaagee |19|Those who were devoted to the Feet of the Lord, they abandoned the Vedas.19.
ਜਿਨ ਮਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬਨ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥
jin mat bed kateban tiaagee |Those who renounced the ideology (ma't) of the Vedas and books,
