ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈ ਥਾਉ ॥
bhaaee re avar naahee mai thaau |

O Siblings of Destiny, I have no other place to go.

ਮੈ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mai dhan naam nidhaan hai gur deea bal jaau |1| rahaau |

The Guru has given me the Treasure of the Wealth of the Naam; I am a sacrifice to Him. ||1||Pause||

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥
guramat pat saabaas tis tis kai sang milaau |

The Guru's Teachings bring honor. Blessed is He-may I meet and be with Him!

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਊ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
tis bin gharree na jeevaoo bin naavai mar jaau |

Without Him, I cannot live, even for a moment. Without His Name, I die.

ਮੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੨॥
mai andhule naam na veesarai ttek ttikee ghar jaau |2|

I am blind-may I never forget the Naam! Under His Protection, I shall reach my true home. ||2||

ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਚੇਲੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥
guroo jinaa kaa andhulaa chele naahee tthaau |

Those chaylaas, those devotees, whose spiritual teacher is blind, shall not find their place of rest.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
bin satigur naau na paaeeai bin naavai kiaa suaau |

Without the True Guru, the Name is not obtained. Without the Name, what is the use of it all?

ਆਇ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥੩॥
aae geaa pachhutaavanaa jiau sunyai ghar kaau |3|

People come and go, regretting and repenting, like crows in a deserted house. ||3||

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਜਿਉ ਕਲਰ ਕੀ ਭੀਤਿ ॥
bin naavai dukh dehuree jiau kalar kee bheet |

Without the Name, the body suffers in pain; it crumbles like a wall of sand.

ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
tab lag mahal na paaeeai jab lag saach na cheet |

As long as Truth does not enter into the consciousness, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is not found.

ਸਬਦਿ ਰਪੈ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ਪਦੁ ਨੀਤਿ ॥੪॥
sabad rapai ghar paaeeai nirabaanee pad neet |4|

Attuned to the Shabad, we enter our home, and obtain the Eternal State of Nirvaanaa. ||4||

ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਉ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰ ਪੁਛਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਉ ॥
hau gur poochhau aapane gur puchh kaar kamaau |

I ask my Guru for His Advice, and I follow the Guru's Advice.

ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
sabad salaahee man vasai haumai dukh jal jaau |

With the Shabads of Praise abiding in the mind, the pain of egotism is burnt away.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਮਿਲਾਵੜਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੫॥
sahaje hoe milaavarraa saache saach milaau |5|

We are intuitively united with Him, and we meet the Truest of the True. ||5||

ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਤਜਿ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
sabad rate se niramale taj kaam krodh ahankaar |

Those who are attuned to the Shabad are spotless and pure; they renounce sexual desire, anger, selfishness and conceit.

ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
naam salaahan sad sadaa har raakheh ur dhaar |

They sing the Praises of the Naam, forever and ever; they keep the Lord enshrined within their hearts.

ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਸਭ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੬॥
so kiau manahu visaareeai sabh jeea kaa aadhaar |6|

How could we ever forget Him from our minds? He is the Support of all beings. ||6||

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋ ਮਰਿ ਰਹੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰ ॥
sabad marai so mar rahai fir marai na doojee vaar |

One who dies in the Shabad is beyond death, and shall never die again.

ਸਬਦੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sabadai hee te paaeeai har naame lagai piaar |

Through the Shabad, we find Him, and embrace love for the Name of the Lord.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਗੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੭॥
bin sabadai jag bhoolaa firai mar janamai vaaro vaar |7|

Without the Shabad, the world is deceived; it dies and is reborn, over and over again. ||7||

ਸਭ ਸਾਲਾਹੈ ਆਪ ਕਉ ਵਡਹੁ ਵਡੇਰੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
sabh saalaahai aap kau vaddahu vadderee hoe |

All praise themselves, and call themselves the greatest of the great.

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੀਐ ਕਹੇ ਸੁਣੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥
gur bin aap na cheeneeai kahe sune kiaa hoe |

Without the Guru, one's self cannot be known. By merely speaking and listening, what is accomplished?

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੮॥
naanak sabad pachhaaneeai haumai karai na koe |8|8|

O Nanak, one who realizes the Shabad does not act in egotism. ||8||8||

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
sireeraag mahalaa 1 |

Siree Raag, First Mehl:

ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਧਨ ਸੀਗਾਰੀਐ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਬਾਦਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
bin pir dhan seegaareeai joban baad khuaar |

Without her Husband, the soul-bride's youth and ornaments are useless and wretched.

ਨਾ ਮਾਣੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੇਜੜੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਬਾਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
naa maane sukh sejarree bin pir baad seegaar |

She does not enjoy the pleasure of His Bed; without her Husband, her ornaments are absurd.

ਦੂਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਨਾ ਘਰਿ ਸੇਜ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
dookh ghano dohaaganee naa ghar sej bhataar |1|

The discarded bride suffers terrible pain; her Husband does not come to the bed of her home. ||1||

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਜਪਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
man re raam japahu sukh hoe |

O mind, meditate on the Lord, and find peace.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin gur prem na paaeeai sabad milai rang hoe |1| rahaau |

Without the Guru, love is not found. United with the Shabad, happiness is found. ||1||Pause||

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
gur sevaa sukh paaeeai har var sahaj seegaar |

Serving the Guru, she finds peace, and her Husband Lord adorns her with intuitive wisdom.

ਸਚਿ ਮਾਣੇ ਪਿਰ ਸੇਜੜੀ ਗੂੜਾ ਹੇਤੁ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sach maane pir sejarree goorraa het piaar |

Truly, she enjoys the Bed of her Husband, through her deep love and affection.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਸਿਞਾਣੀਐ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਗੁਣ ਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
guramukh jaan siyaaneeai gur melee gun chaar |2|

As Gurmukh, she comes to know Him. Meeting with the Guru, she maintains a virtuous lifestyle. ||2||

ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਵਰ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਪਿਰਿ ਮੋਹੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
sach milahu var kaamanee pir mohee rang laae |

Through Truth, meet your Husband Lord, O soul-bride. Enchanted by your Husband, enshrine love for Him.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
man tan saach vigasiaa keemat kahan na jaae |

Your mind and body shall blossom forth in Truth. The value of this cannot be described.

ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥
har var ghar sohaaganee niramal saachai naae |3|

The soul-bride finds her Husband Lord in the home of her own being; she is purified by the True Name. ||3||

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਜੇ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੈ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
man meh manooaa je marai taa pir raavai naar |

If the mind within the mind dies, then the Husband ravishes and enjoys His bride.

ਇਕਤੁ ਤਾਗੈ ਰਲਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਗਲਿ ਮੋਤੀਅਨ ਕਾ ਹਾਰੁ ॥
eikat taagai ral milai gal moteean kaa haar |

They are woven into one texture, like pearls on a necklace around the neck.

ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
sant sabhaa sukh aoopajai guramukh naam adhaar |4|

In the Society of the Saints, peace wells up; the Gurmukhs take the Support of the Naam. ||4||

ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਖਿਨਿ ਖਪੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਆਵੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
khin meh upajai khin khapai khin aavai khin jaae |

In an instant, one is born, and in an instant, one dies. In an instant one comes, and in an instant one goes.

ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੰਤਾਇ ॥
sabad pachhaanai rav rahai naa tis kaal santaae |

One who recognizes the Shabad merges into it, and is not afflicted by death.
