ਇਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਰਾਜੁ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਾ ਲੇਇ ॥
eiau guramukh aap nivaareeai sabh raaj srisatt kaa lee |

This is how the Gurmukhs eliminate their self-conceit, and come to rule the whole world.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥
naanak guramukh bujheeai jaa aape nadar karee |1|

O Nanak, the Gurmukh understands, when the Lord casts His Glance of Grace. ||1||

Third Mehl:

ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਆਏ ਤੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
jin guramukh naam dhiaaeaa aae te paravaan |

Blessed and approved is the coming into the world, of those Gurmukhs who meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਾਰਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
naanak kul udhaareh aapanaa daragah paaveh maan |2|

O Nanak, they save their families, and they are honored in the Court of the Lord. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਖੀਆ ਸਿਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਲਾਈਆ ॥
guramukh sakheea sikh guroo melaaeea |

The Guru unites His Sikhs, the Gurmukhs, with the Lord.

ਇਕਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ਇਕਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਈਆ ॥
eik sevak gur paas ik gur kaarai laaeea |

The Guru keeps some of them with Himself, and engages others in His Service.

ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਭਾਉ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇਵਾਈਆ ॥
jinaa gur piaaraa man chit tinaa bhaau guroo devaaeea |

Those who cherish their Beloved in their conscious minds, the Guru blesses them with His Love.

ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖਾ ਇਕੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਤਾ ਪੁਤਾ ਭਾਈਆ ॥
gur sikhaa iko piaar gur mitaa putaa bhaaeea |

The Guru loves all of His Gursikhs equally well, like friends, children and siblings.

ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਲਹੁ ਸਭਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਖਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀਵਾਈਆ ॥੧੪॥
gur satigur bolahu sabh gur aakh guroo jeevaaeea |14|

So chant the Name of the Guru, the True Guru, everyone! Chanting the Name of the Guru, Guru, you shall be rejuvenated. ||14||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Salok, Third Mehl:

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਨੀ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਅਵਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
naanak naam na chetanee agiaanee andhule avare karam kamaeh |

O Nanak, the blind, ignorant fools do not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord; they involve themselves in other activities.

ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਚਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
jam dar badhe maareeeh fir visattaa maeh pachaeh |1|

They are bound and gagged at the door of the Messenger of Death; they are punished, and in the end, they rot away in manure. ||1||

ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Third Mehl:

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਚੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
naanak satigur seveh aapanaa se jan sache paravaan |

O Nanak, those humble beings are true and approved, who serve their True Guru.

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਸਮਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਚੂਕਾ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
har kai naae samaae rahe chookaa aavan jaan |2|

They remain absorbed in the Name of the Lord, and their comings and goings cease. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਧਨੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਚੀਐ ਅੰਤੇ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ॥
dhan sanpai maaeaa sancheeai ante dukhadaaee |

Gathering the wealth and property of Maya, brings only pain in the end.

ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਲ ਸਵਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
ghar mandar mahal savaareeeh kichh saath na jaaee |

Homes, mansions and adorned palaces will not go with anyone.

ਹਰ ਰੰਗੀ ਤੁਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਪਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥
har rangee ture nit paaleeeh kitai kaam na aaee |

He may breed horses of various colors, but these will not be of any use to him.

ਜਨ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਅੰਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
jan laavahu chit har naam siau ant hoe sakhaaee |

O human, link your consciousness to the Lord's Name, and in the end, it shall be your companion and helper.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੫॥
jan naanak naam dhiaaeaa guramukh sukh paaee |15|

Servant Nanak meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the Gurmukh is blessed with peace. ||15||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥
salok mahalaa 3 |

Salok, Third Mehl:

ਬਿਨੁ ਕਰਮੈ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin karamai naau na paaeeai poorai karam paaeaa jaae |

Without the karma of good actions, the Name is not obtained; it can be obtained only by perfect good karma.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak nadar kare je aapanee taa guramat mel milaae |1|

O Nanak, if the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, then under Guru's Instruction, one is united in His Union. ||1||

ਮਃ ੧ ॥

First Mehl:

ਇਕ ਦਝਹਿ ਇਕ ਦਬੀਅਹਿ ਇਕਨਾ ਕੁਤੇ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
eik dajheh ik dabeeeh ikanaa kute khaeh |

Some are cremated, and some are buried; some are eaten by dogs.

ਇਕਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਉਸਟੀਅਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਭੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹਸਣਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
eik paanee vich usatteeeh ik bhee fir hasan paeh |

Some are thrown into water, while others are thrown into wells.

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਵ ਨ ਜਾਪਈ ਕਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
naanak ev na jaapee kithai jaae samaeh |2|

O Nanak, it is not known, where they go and into what they merge. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਖਾਧਾ ਪੈਧਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
tin kaa khaadhaa paidhaa maaeaa sabh pavit hai jo naam har raate |

The food and clothes, and all the worldly possessions of those who are attuned to the Lord's Name are sacred.

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਲ ਸਰਾਈ ਸਭਿ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹਹਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਿਖ ਅਭਿਆਗਤ ਜਾਇ ਵਰਸਾਤੇ ॥
tin ke ghar mandar mahal saraaee sabh pavit heh jinee guramukh sevak sikh abhiaagat jaae varasaate |

All the homes, temples, palaces and way-stations are sacred, where the Gurmukhs, the selfless servants, the Sikhs and the renouncers of the world, go and take their rest.

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਤੁਰੇ ਜੀਨ ਖੁਰਗੀਰ ਸਭਿ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹਹਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਿਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਤ ਚੜਿ ਜਾਤੇ ॥
tin ke ture jeen khurageer sabh pavit heh jinee guramukh sikh saadh sant charr jaate |

All the horses, saddles and horse blankets are sacred, upon which the Gurmukhs, the Sikhs, the Holy and the Saints, mount and ride.

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਭਿ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹਹਿ ਜੋ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਤੇ ॥
tin ke karam dharam kaaraj sabh pavit heh jo boleh har har raam naam har saate |

All the rituals and Dharmic practices and deeds are sacred, for those who utter the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, the True Name of the Lord.

ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਪੋਤੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਸੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਿਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਤੇ ॥੧੬॥
jin kai potai pun hai se guramukh sikh guroo peh jaate |16|

Those Gurmukhs, those Sikhs, who have purity as their treasure, go to their Guru. ||16||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Salok, Third Mehl:

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਘੁਥਿਆ ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
naanak naavahu ghuthiaa halat palat sabh jaae |

O Nanak, forsaking the Name, he loses everything, in this world and the next.

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਹਿਰਿ ਲਇਆ ਮੁਠੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
jap tap sanjam sabh hir leaa mutthee doojai bhaae |

Chanting, deep meditation and austere self-disciplined practices are all wasted; he is deceived by the love of duality.

ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
jam dar badhe maareeeh bahutee milai sajaae |1|

He is bound and gagged at the door of the Messenger of Death. He is beaten, and receives terrible punishment. ||1||
