ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥
satigur sevee sabad suhaaeaa |

I serve the True Guru; the Word of His Shabad is beautiful.

ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
jin har kaa naam man vasaaeaa |

Through it, the Name of the Lord comes to dwell within the mind.

ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
har niramal haumai mail gavaae dar sachai sobhaa paavaniaa |2|

The Pure Lord removes the filth of egotism, and we are honored in the True Court. ||2||

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin gur naam na paaeaa jaae |

Without the Guru, the Naam cannot be obtained.

ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥
sidh saadhik rahe bilalaae |

The Siddhas and the seekers lack it; they weep and wail.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
bin gur seve sukh na hovee poorai bhaag gur paavaniaa |3|

Without serving the True Guru, peace is not obtained; through perfect destiny, the Guru is found. ||3||

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਆਰਸੀ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
eihu man aarasee koee guramukh vekhai |

This mind is a mirror; how rare are those who, as Gurmukh, see themselves in it.

ਮੋਰਚਾ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੋਖੈ ॥
morachaa na laagai jaa haumai sokhai |

Rust does not stick to those who burn their ego.

ਅਨਹਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਏ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
anahat baanee niramal sabad vajaae gurasabadee sach samaavaniaa |4|

The Unstruck Melody of the Bani resounds through the Pure Word of the Shabad; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, we are absorbed into the True One. ||4||

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਹੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin satigur kihu na dekhiaa jaae |

Without the True Guru, the Lord cannot be seen.

ਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਆਪੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
gur kirapaa kar aap ditaa dikhaae |

Granting His Grace, He Himself has allowed me to see Him.

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
aape aap aap mil rahiaa sahaje sahaj samaavaniaa |5|

All by Himself, He Himself is permeating and pervading; He is intuitively absorbed in celestial peace. ||5||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਇਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
guramukh hovai su ikas siau liv laae |

One who becomes Gurmukh embraces love for the One.

ਦੂਜਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
doojaa bharam gur sabad jalaae |

Doubt and duality are burned away by the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
kaaeaa andar vanaj kare vaapaaraa naam nidhaan sach paavaniaa |6|

Within his body, he deals and trades, and obtains the Treasure of the True Name. ||6||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
guramukh karanee har keerat saar |

The life-style of the Gurmukh is sublime; he sings the Praises of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
guramukh paae mokh duaar |

The Gurmukh finds the gate of salvation.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
anadin rang rataa gun gaavai andar mahal bulaavaniaa |7|

Night and day, he is imbued with the Lord's Love. He sings the Lord's Glorious Praises, and he is called to the Mansion of His Presence. ||7||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
satigur daataa milai milaaeaa |

The True Guru, the Giver, is met when the Lord leads us to meet Him.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਨਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
poorai bhaag man sabad vasaaeaa |

Through perfect destiny, the Shabad is enshrined in the mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੯॥੧੦॥
naanak naam milai vaddiaaee har sache ke gun gaavaniaa |8|9|10|

O Nanak, the greatness of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained by chanting the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. ||8||9||10||

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
maajh mahalaa 3 |

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਆਪੁ ਵੰਞਾਏ ਤਾ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
aap vanyaae taa sabh kichh paae |

Those who lose their own selves obtain everything.

ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
gurasabadee sachee liv laae |

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they enshrine Love for the True one.

ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਘਰਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
sach vananjeh sach sanghareh sach vaapaar karaavaniaa |1|

They trade in Truth, they gather in Truth, and they deal only in Truth. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vaaree jeeo vaaree har gun anadin gaavaniaa |

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day.

ਹਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hau teraa toon tthaakur meraa sabad vaddiaaee devaniaa |1| rahaau |

I am Yours, You are my Lord and Master. You bestow greatness through the Word of Your Shabad. ||1||Pause||

ਵੇਲਾ ਵਖਤ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥
velaa vakhat sabh suhaaeaa |

That time, that moment is totally beautiful,

ਜਿਤੁ ਸਚਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
jit sachaa mere man bhaaeaa |

when the True One becomes pleasing to my mind.

ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਚੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
sache seviaai sach vaddiaaee gur kirapaa te sach paavaniaa |2|

Serving the True One, true greatness is obtained. By Guru's Grace, the True One is obtained. ||2||

ਭਾਉ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਏ ॥
bhaau bhojan satigur tutthai paae |

The food of spiritual love is obtained when the True Guru is pleased.

ਅਨ ਰਸੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
an ras chookai har ras man vasaae |

Other essences are forgotten, when the Lord's Essence comes to dwell in the mind.

ਸਚੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sach santokh sahaj sukh baanee poore gur te paavaniaa |3|

Truth, contentment and intuitive peace and poise are obtained from the Bani, the Word of the Perfect Guru. ||3||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥
satigur na seveh moorakh andh gavaaraa |

The blind and ignorant fools do not serve the True Guru;

ਫਿਰਿ ਓਇ ਕਿਥਹੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥
fir oe kithahu paaein mokh duaaraa |

how will they find the gate of salvation?

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
mar mar jameh fir fir aaveh jam dar chottaa khaavaniaa |4|

They die and die, over and over again, only to be reborn, over and over again. They are struck down at Death's Door. ||4||

ਸਬਦੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਤਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ॥
sabadai saad jaaneh taa aap pachhaaneh |

Those who know the essence of the Shabad, understand their own selves.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ॥
niramal baanee sabad vakhaaneh |

Immaculate is the speech of those who chant the Word of the Shabad.

ਸਚੇ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sache sev sadaa sukh paaein nau nidh naam man vasaavaniaa |5|

Serving the True One, they find a lasting peace; they enshrine the nine treasures of the Naam within their minds. ||5||

ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
so thaan suhaaeaa jo har man bhaaeaa |

Beautiful is that place, which is pleasing to the Lord's Mind.

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
satasangat beh har gun gaaeaa |

There, sitting in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਹਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
anadin har saalaaheh saachaa niramal naad vajaavaniaa |6|

Night and day, the True One is praised; the Immaculate Sound-current of the Naad resounds there. ||6||
