Pauree:

ਯਯਾ ਜਾਰਉ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੋਊ ॥
yayaa jaarau duramat doaoo |

YAYYA: Burn away duality and evil-mindedness.

ਤਿਸਹਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੋਊ ॥
tiseh tiaag sukh sahaje soaoo |

Give them up, and sleep in intuitive peace and poise.

ਯਯਾ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਸਰਨਾ ॥
yayaa jaae parahu sant saranaa |

Yaya: Go, and seek the Sanctuary of the Saints;

ਜਿਹ ਆਸਰ ਇਆ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਨਾ ॥
jih aasar eaa bhavajal taranaa |

with their help, you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean.

ਯਯਾ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਸੋਊ ॥
yayaa janam na aavai soaoo |

Yaya: One who weaves the One Name into his heart,

ਏਕ ਨਾਮ ਲੇ ਮਨਹਿ ਪਰੋਊ ॥
ek naam le maneh paroaoo |

Does not have to take birth again.

ਯਯਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹਾਰੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ॥
yayaa janam na haareeai gur poore kee ttek |

Yaya: This human life shall not be wasted, if you take the Support of the Perfect Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਏਕ ॥੧੪॥
naanak tih sukh paaeaa jaa kai heearai ek |14|

O Nanak, one whose heart is filled with the One Lord finds peace. ||14||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

Salok:

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਬਸਿ ਰਹੇ ਈਤ ਊਤ ਕੇ ਮੀਤ ॥
antar man tan bas rahe eet aoot ke meet |

The One who dwells deep within the mind and body is your friend here and hereafter.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪੀਐ ਨੀਤ ॥੧॥
gur poorai upadesiaa naanak japeeai neet |1|

The Perfect Guru has taught me, O Nanak, to chant His Name continually. ||1||

Pauree:

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਕਉ ਜੋ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੋਇ ॥
anadin simarahu taas kau jo ant sahaaee hoe |

Night and day, meditate in remembrance on the One who will be your Help and Support in the end.

ਇਹ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ਛਿਅ ਛਾਡਿ ਚਲਿਓ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
eih bikhiaa din chaar chhia chhaadd chalio sabh koe |

This poison shall last for only a few days; everyone must depart, and leave it behind.

ਕਾ ਕੋ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਧੀਆ ॥
kaa ko maat pitaa sut dheea |

Who is our mother, father, son and daughter?

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਕਛੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਲੀਆ ॥
grih banitaa kachh sang na leea |

Household, wife, and other things shall not go along with you.

ਐਸੀ ਸੰਚਿ ਜੁ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
aaisee sanch ju binasat naahee |

So gather that wealth which shall never perish,

ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
pat setee apunai ghar jaahee |

so that you may go to your true home with honor.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਕਲਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
saadhasang kal keeratan gaaeaa |

In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, those who sing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧੫॥
naanak te te bahur na aaeaa |15|

- O Nanak, they do not have to endure reincarnation again. ||15||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
salok |

Salok:

ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਕੁਲੀਨ ਚਤੁਰ ਮੁਖਿ ਙਿਆਨੀ ਧਨਵੰਤ ॥
at sundar kuleen chatur mukh ngiaanee dhanavant |

He may be very handsome, born into a highly respected family, very wise, a famous spiritual teacher, prosperous and wealthy;

ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥੧॥
miratak kaheeeh naanakaa jih preet nahee bhagavant |1|

but even so, he is looked upon as a corpse, O Nanak, if he does not love the Lord God. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਙੰਙਾ ਖਟੁ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਇ ਙਿਆਤਾ ॥
ngangaa khatt saasatr hoe ngiaataa |

NGANGA: He may be a scholar of the six Shaastras.

ਪੂਰਕੁ ਕੁੰਭਕ ਰੇਚਕ ਕਰਮਾਤਾ ॥
poorak kunbhak rechak karamaataa |

He may practice inhaling, exhaling and holding the breath.

ਙਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸਨਾਨੀ ॥
ngiaan dhiaan teerath isanaanee |

He may practice spiritual wisdom, meditation, pilgrimages to sacred shrines and ritual cleansing baths.

ਸੋਮਪਾਕ ਅਪਰਸ ਉਦਿਆਨੀ ॥
somapaak aparas udiaanee |

He may cook his own food, and never touch anyone else's; he may live in the wilderness like a hermit.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਹੇਤਾ ॥
raam naam sang man nahee hetaa |

But if he does not enshrine love for the Lord's Name within his heart,

ਜੋ ਕਛੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਸੋਊ ਅਨੇਤਾ ॥
jo kachh keeno soaoo anetaa |

then everything he does is transitory.

ਉਆ ਤੇ ਊਤਮੁ ਗਨਉ ਚੰਡਾਲਾ ॥
auaa te aootam gnau chanddaalaa |

Even an untouchable pariah is superior to him,

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਹ ਮਨਿ ਬਸਹਿ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥੧੬॥
naanak jih man baseh gupaalaa |16|

O Nanak, if the Lord of the World abides in his mind. ||16||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

Salok:

ਕੁੰਟ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕੀ ਰੇਖ ॥
kuntt chaar dah dis bhrame karam kirat kee rekh |

He wanders around in the four quarters and in the ten directions, according to the dictates of his karma.

ਸੂਖ ਦੂਖ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਓ ਲੇਖ ॥੧॥
sookh dookh mukat jon naanak likhio lekh |1|

Pleasure and pain, liberation and reincarnation, O Nanak, come according to one's pre-ordained destiny. ||1||

ਪਵੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਕਕਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਊ ॥
kakaa kaaran karataa soaoo |

KAKKA: He is the Creator, the Cause of causes.

ਲਿਖਿਓ ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਮੇਟਤ ਕੋਊ ॥
likhio lekh na mettat koaoo |

No one can erase His pre-ordained plan.

ਨਹੀ ਹੋਤ ਕਛੁ ਦੋਊ ਬਾਰਾ ॥
nahee hot kachh doaoo baaraa |

Nothing can be done a second time.

ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰੁ ਨ ਭੂਲਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
karanaihaar na bhoolanahaaraa |

The Creator Lord does not make mistakes.

ਕਾਹੂ ਪੰਥੁ ਦਿਖਾਰੈ ਆਪੈ ॥
kaahoo panth dikhaarai aapai |

To some, He Himself shows the Way.

ਕਾਹੂ ਉਦਿਆਨ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਪਛੁਤਾਪੈ ॥
kaahoo udiaan bhramat pachhutaapai |

While He causes others to wander miserably in the wilderness.

ਆਪਨ ਖੇਲੁ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
aapan khel aap hee keeno |

He Himself has set His own play in motion.

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਦੀਨੋ ਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੀਨੋ ॥੧੭॥
jo jo deeno su naanak leeno |17|

Whatever He gives, O Nanak, that is what we receive. ||17||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

Salok:

ਖਾਤ ਖਰਚਤ ਬਿਲਛਤ ਰਹੇ ਟੂਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
khaat kharachat bilachhat rahe ttoott na jaeh bhanddaar |

People continue to eat and consume and enjoy, but the Lord's warehouses are never exhausted.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਹਿ ਸੁਮਾਰ ॥੧॥
har har japat anek jan naanak naeh sumaar |1|

So many chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; O Nanak, they cannot be counted. ||1||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਖਖਾ ਖੂਨਾ ਕਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥ ਕੈ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
khakhaa khoonaa kachh nahee tis samrath kai paeh |

KHAKHA: The All-powerful Lord lacks nothing;

ਜੋ ਦੇਨਾ ਸੋ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਓ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
jo denaa so de rahio bhaavai tah tah jaeh |

whatever He is to give, He continues to give - let anyone go anywhere he pleases.

ਖਰਚੁ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਇਆ ਭਗਤਨ ਕੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
kharach khajaanaa naam dhan eaa bhagatan kee raas |

The wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is a treasure to spend; it is the capital of His devotees.

ਖਿਮਾ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਅਨਦ ਸਹਜ ਜਪਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਗੁਣਤਾਸ ॥
khimaa gareebee anad sahaj japat raheh gunataas |

With tolerance, humility, bliss and intuitive poise, they continue to meditate on the Lord, the Treasure of excellence.

ਖੇਲਹਿ ਬਿਗਸਹਿ ਅਨਦ ਸਿਉ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
kheleh bigaseh anad siau jaa kau hot kripaal |

Those, unto whom the Lord shows His Mercy, play happily and blossom forth.

ਸਦੀਵ ਗਨੀਵ ਸੁਹਾਵਨੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਮਾਲ ॥
sadeev ganeev suhaavane raam naam grihi maal |

Those who have the wealth of the Lord's Name in their homes are forever wealthy and beautiful.

ਖੇਦੁ ਨ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਡਾਨੁ ਤਿਹ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੀ ॥
khed na dookh na ddaan tih jaa kau nadar karee |

Those who are blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace suffer neither torture, nor pain, nor punishment.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣਿਆ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਿਨਾ ਪਰੀ ॥੧੮॥
naanak jo prabh bhaaniaa pooree tinaa paree |18|

O Nanak, those who are pleasing to God become perfectly successful. ||18||
