ਹੋਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ ਤੇਰਿਆ ਸੰਤਹ ਕੀ ਰਾਵਾਰ ॥
hohu kripaal deen dukh bhanjan teriaa santah kee raavaar |

Please be merciful to me, O Destroyer of the pains of the meek and the poor; let me be the dust of the feet of the Saints.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਚੈ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਕੋ ਆਧਾਰ ॥੨॥੭੮॥੧੦੧॥
naanak daas daras prabh jaachai man tan ko aadhaar |2|78|101|

Slave Nanak asks for the Blessed Vision of God. It is the Support of his mind and body. ||2||78||101||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਮੈਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
mailaa har ke naam bin jeeo |

Without the Name of the Lord, the soul is polluted.

ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਬਿਖੈ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਪੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tin prabh saachai aap bhulaaeaa bikhai tthgauree peeo |1| rahaau |

The True Lord God has Himself administered the intoxicating drug of corruption, and led the mortal astray. ||1||Pause||

ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਤੌ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਂਤੀ ਥਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਤਹੂ ਪਾਈ ॥
kott janam bhramatau bahu bhaantee thit nahee katahoo paaee |

Wandering through millions of incarnations in countless ways, he does not find stability anywhere.

ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
pooraa satigur sahaj na bhettiaa saakat aavai jaaee |1|

The faithless cynic does not intuitively meet with the Perfect True Guru; he continues coming and going in reincarnation. ||1||

ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥ ਦਾਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
raakh lehu prabh samrith daate tum prabh agam apaar |

Please save me, O All-powerful Lord God, O Great Giver; O God, You are Inaccessible and Infinite.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਉਤਰਿਓ ਪਾਰ ॥੨॥੭੯॥੧੦੨॥
naanak daas teree saranaaee bhavajal utario paar |2|79|102|

Slave Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary, to cross over the terrible world-ocean, and reach the other shore. ||2||79||102||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਰਮਣ ਕਉ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਾਦ ॥
raman kau raam ke gun baad |

To chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord is Sublime.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਦ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saadhasang dhiaaeeai paramesar amrit jaa ke suaad |1| rahaau |

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, meditate on the Transcendent Lord God; The taste of His essence is Ambrosial Nectar. ||1||Pause||

ਸਿਮਰਤ ਏਕੁ ਅਚੁਤ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਦ ॥
simarat ek achut abinaasee binase maaeaa maad |

Meditating in remembrance on the One Unmoving, Eternal, Unchanging Lord God, the intoxication of Maya wears off.

ਸਹਜ ਅਨਦ ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਭਏ ਬਿਖਾਦ ॥੧॥
sahaj anad anahad dhun baanee bahur na bhe bikhaad |1|

One who is blessed with intuitive peace and poise, and the vibrations of the Unstruck Celestial Bani, never suffers again. ||1||

ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿਕ ਗਾਵਤ ਗਾਵਤ ਸੁਕ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ॥
sanakaadik brahamaadik gaavat gaavat suk prahilaad |

Even Brahma and his sons sing God's Praises; Sukdayv and Prahlaad sing His Praises as well.

ਪੀਵਤ ਅਮਿਉ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ॥੨॥੮੦॥੧੦੩॥
peevat amiau manohar har ras jap naanak har bisamaad |2|80|103|

Drinking in the fascinating Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's sublime essence, Nanak meditates on the Amazing Lord. ||2||80||103||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਕੀਨੑੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਕੋਟ ॥
keenae paap ke bahu kott |

He commits many millions of sins.

ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਨੀ ਥਕਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਤਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਛੋਟ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dinas rainee thakat naahee kateh naahee chhott |1| rahaau |

Day and night, he does not get tired of them, and he never finds release. ||1||Pause||

ਮਹਾ ਬਜਰ ਬਿਖ ਬਿਆਧੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਉਠਾਈ ਪੋਟ ॥
mahaa bajar bikh biaadhee sir utthaaee pott |

He carries on his head a terrible, heavy load of sin and corruption.

ਉਘਰਿ ਗਈਆਂ ਖਿਨਹਿ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜਮਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਾਸੇ ਝੋਟ ॥੧॥
aughar geean khineh bheetar jameh graase jhott |1|

In an instant, he is exposed. The Messenger of Death seizes him by his hair. ||1||

ਪਸੁ ਪਰੇਤ ਉਸਟ ਗਰਧਭ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨੀ ਲੇਟ ॥
pas paret usatt garadhabh anik jonee lett |

He is consigned to countless forms of reincarnation, into beasts, ghosts, camels and donkeys.

ਭਜੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਫੇਟ ॥੨॥੮੧॥੧੦੪॥
bhaj saadhasang gobind naanak kachh na laagai fett |2|81|104|

Vibrating and meditating on the Lord of the Universe in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, you shall never be struck or harmed at all. ||2||81||104||

ਸਾਰਗ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਅੰਧੇ ਖਾਵਹਿ ਬਿਸੂ ਕੇ ਗਟਾਕ ॥
andhe khaaveh bisoo ke gattaak |

He is so blind! He is eating loads of poison.

ਨੈਨ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਹੁਟਿਓ ਸਾਸੁ ਗਇਓ ਤਤ ਘਾਟ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nain sravan sareer sabh huttio saas geio tat ghaatt |1| rahaau |

His eyes, ears and body are totally exhausted; he shall lose his breath in an instant. ||1||Pause||

ਅਨਾਥ ਰਞਾਣਿ ਉਦਰੁ ਲੇ ਪੋਖਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਗਈਆ ਹਾਟਿ ॥
anaath rayaan udar le pokheh maaeaa geea haatt |

Making the poor suffer, he fills his belly, but the wealth of Maya shall not go with him.

ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਰਤ ਕਰਤ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਸਾਕਹਿ ਛਾਂਟਿ ॥੧॥
kilabikh karat karat pachhutaaveh kabahu na saakeh chhaantt |1|

Committing sinful mistakes again and again, he regrets and repents, but he can never give them up. ||1||

ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਜਮਦੂਤੀ ਆਇ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਓ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਮੂੰਡ ਉਪਰਿ ਮਟਾਕ ॥
nindak jamadootee aae sanghaario deveh moondd upar mattaak |

The Messenger of Death comes to slaughter the slanderer; he beats him on his head.

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਨ ਕਟਾਰੀ ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਲਾਈ ਮਨੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਕੀਨੋ ਫਾਟ ॥੨॥੮੨॥੧੦੫॥
naanak aapan kattaaree aapas kau laaee man apanaa keeno faatt |2|82|105|

O Nanak, he cuts himself with his own dagger, and damages his own mind. ||2||82||105||

ਸਾਰਗ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:

ਟੂਟੀ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕੀ ਅਧ ਬੀਚ ॥
ttoottee nindak kee adh beech |

The slanderer is destroyed in mid-stream.

ਜਨ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਕਉ ਆਇ ਪਹੂਚੀ ਮੀਚ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jan kaa raakhaa aap suaamee bemukh kau aae pahoochee meech |1| rahaau |

Our Lord and Master is the Saving Grace, the Protector of His humble servants; those who have turned their backs on the Guru are overtaken by death. ||1||Pause||

ਉਸ ਕਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸੁਣਈ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
aus kaa kahiaa koe na sunee kahee na baisan paavai |

No one listens to what he says; he is not allowed to sit anywhere.

ਈਹਾਂ ਦੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ਨਰਕੁ ਭੁੰਚੈ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਰਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
eehaan dukh aagai narak bhunchai bahu jonee bharamaavai |1|

He suffers in pain here, and falls into hell hereafter. He wanders in endless reincarnations. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਭਇਆ ਖੰਡੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
pragatt bheaa khanddee brahamanddee keetaa apanaa paaeaa |

He has become infamous across worlds and galaxies; he receives according to what he has done.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਕਰਤੇ ਕੀ ਅਨਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੨॥੮੩॥੧੦੬॥
naanak saran nirbhau karate kee anad mangal gun gaaeaa |2|83|106|

Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Fearless Creator Lord; he sings His Glorious Praises in ecstasy and bliss. ||2||83||106||
