ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸਿ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
aatth pahar har ke gun gaavai bhagat prem ras maataa |

Twenty-four hours a day, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, absorbed in loving devotional worship.

ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਦੁਹੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੨॥
harakh sog duhu maeh niraalaa karanaihaar pachhaataa |2|

He remains unaffected by both fortune and misfortune, and he recognizes the Creator Lord. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਰਖਿ ਲੀਆ ਸਗਲ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ॥
jis kaa saa tin hee rakh leea sagal jugat ban aaee |

The Lord saves those who belong to Him, and all pathways are opened to them.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥੧॥੯॥
kahu naanak prabh purakh deaalaa keemat kahan na jaaee |3|1|9|

Says Nanak, the value of the Merciful Lord God cannot be described. ||3||1||9||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik oankaar satigur prasaad |

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਲੀਏ ਕਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਗਲ ਕਰਤ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੋ ॥
patit pavitr lee kar apune sagal karat namasakaaro |

The Lord has sanctified the sinners and made them His own; all bow in reverence to Him.

ਬਰਨੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਕੋਊ ਪੂਛੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਾਛਹਿ ਚਰਨ ਰਵਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
baran jaat koaoo poochhai naahee baachheh charan ravaaro |1|

No one asks about their ancestry and social status; instead, they yearn for the dust of their feet. ||1||

ਠਾਕੁਰ ਐਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੋ ॥
tthaakur aaiso naam tumaaro |

O Lord Master, such is Your Name.

ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕੋ ਧਣੀ ਕਹੀਜੈ ਜਨ ਕੋ ਅੰਗੁ ਨਿਰਾਰੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal srisatt ko dhanee kaheejai jan ko ang niraaro |1| rahaau |

You are called the Lord of all creation; You give Your unique support to Your servant. ||1||Pause||

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥
saadhasang naanak budh paaee har keeratan aadhaaro |

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak has obtained understanding; singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is his only support.

ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਦਾਸਰੋ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਇਓ ਚੰਮਿਆਰੋ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੦॥
naamadeo trilochan kabeer daasaro mukat bheio chamiaaro |2|1|10|

The Lord's servants, Naam Dayv, Trilochan, Kabeer and Ravi Daas the shoe-maker have been liberated. ||2||1||10||

ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Goojaree, Fifth Mehl:

ਹੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਊ ਬੂਝਨਹਾਰੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਕਵਨੁ ਭਤਾ ॥
hai naahee koaoo boojhanahaaro jaanai kavan bhataa |

No one understands the Lord; who can understand His plans?

ਸਿਵ ਬਿਰੰਚਿ ਅਰੁ ਸਗਲ ਮੋਨਿ ਜਨ ਗਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾਹਿ ਗਤਾ ॥੧॥
siv biranch ar sagal mon jan geh na sakaeh gataa |1|

Shiva, Brahma and all the silent sages cannot understand the state of the Lord. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਕਥਾ ॥
prabh kee agam agaadh kathaa |

God's sermon is profound and unfathomable.

ਸੁਨੀਐ ਅਵਰ ਅਵਰ ਬਿਧਿ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਬਕਨ ਕਥਨ ਰਹਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
suneeai avar avar bidh bujheeai bakan kathan rahataa |1| rahaau |

He is heard to be one thing, but He is understood to be something else again; He is beyond description and explanation. ||1||Pause||

ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ॥
aape bhagataa aap suaamee aapan sang rataa |

He Himself is the devotee, and He Himself is the Lord and Master; He is imbued with Himself.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਹੈ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਜਤ੍ਰ ਕਤਾ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੧॥
naanak ko prabh poor rahio hai pekhio jatr kataa |2|2|11|

Nanak's God is pervading and permeating everywhere; wherever he looks, He is there. ||2||2||11||

ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Goojaree, Fifth Mehl:

ਮਤਾ ਮਸੂਰਤਿ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਆਇਓ ॥
mataa masoorat avar siaanap jan kau kachhoo na aaeio |

The humble servant of the Lord has no plans, politics or other clever tricks.

ਜਹ ਜਹ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਆਇ ਬਨਿਓ ਹੈ ਤਹਾ ਤਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਓ ॥੧॥
jah jah aausar aae banio hai tahaa tahaa har dhiaaeio |1|

Whenever the occasion arises, there, he meditates on the Lord. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਬਿਰਦਾਇਓ ॥
prabh ko bhagat vachhal biradaaeio |

It is the very nature of God to love His devotees;

ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਲਾਡ ਲਡਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kare pratipaal baarik kee niaaee jan kau laadd laddaaeio |1| rahaau |

He cherishes His servant, and caresses him as His own child. ||1||Pause||

ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਜਨਿ ਗਾਇਓ ॥
jap tap sanjam karam dharam har keeratan jan gaaeio |

The Lord's servant sings the Kirtan of His Praises as his worship, deep meditation, self-discipline and religious observances.

ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੀ ਅਭੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੨॥੩॥੧੨॥
saran pario naanak tthaakur kee abhai daan sukh paaeio |2|3|12|

Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of his Lord and Master, and has received the blessings of fearlessness and peace. ||2||3||12||

ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Goojaree, Fifth Mehl:

ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਰਾਧਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੋ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਢੀਲਾ ॥
din raatee aaraadhahu piaaro nimakh na keejai dteelaa |

Worship the Lord in adoration, day and night, O my dear - do not delay for a moment.

ਸੰਤ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਲਾਈਐ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਮਾਨੁ ਹਾਠੀਲਾ ॥੧॥
sant sevaa kar bhaavanee laaeeai tiaag maan haattheelaa |1|

Serve the Saints with loving faith, and set aside your pride and stubbornness. ||1||

ਮੋਹਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮਾਨ ਰਾਗੀਲਾ ॥
mohan praan maan raageelaa |

The fascinating, playful Lord is my very breath of life and honor.

ਬਾਸਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਹੀਅਰੇ ਕੈ ਸੰਗੇ ਪੇਖਿ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
baas rahio heeare kai sange pekh mohio man leelaa |1| rahaau |

He abides in my heart; beholding His playful games, my mind is fascinated. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਤ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਉਤਰੈ ਮਨਹੁ ਜੰਗੀਲਾ ॥
jis simarat man hot anandaa utarai manahu jangeelaa |

Remembering Him, my mind is in bliss, and the rust of my mind is removed.

ਮਿਲਬੇ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰੈ ਪਰੀਲਾ ॥੨॥੪॥੧੩॥
milabe kee mahimaa baran na saakau naanak parai pareelaa |2|4|13|

The great honor of meeting the Lord cannot be described; O Nanak, it is infinite, beyond measure. ||2||4||13||

ਮੁਨਿ ਜੋਗੀ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰਗਿ ਕਹਾਵਤ ਸਭ ਕੀਨੑੇ ਬਸਿ ਅਪਨਹੀ ॥
mun jogee saasatrag kahaavat sabh keenae bas apanahee |

They call themselves silent sages, Yogis and scholars of the Shaastras, but Maya has has them all under her control.

ਤੀਨਿ ਦੇਵ ਅਰੁ ਕੋੜਿ ਤੇਤੀਸਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਹੈਰਤਿ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਰਹੀ ॥੧॥
teen dev ar korr teteesaa tin kee hairat kachh na rahee |1|

The three gods, and the 330,000,000 demi-gods, were astonished. ||1||
