ਆਪੇ ਊਚਾ ਊਚੋ ਹੋਈ ॥
aape aoochaa aoocho hoee |

He Himself is the Highest of the High.

ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਖਾਲੇ ਸੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
jis aap vikhaale su vekhai koee |

How rare are those who behold Him. He causes Himself to be seen.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਖਾਲਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੬॥੨੭॥
naanak naam vasai ghatt antar aape vekh vikhaalaniaa |8|26|27|

O Nanak, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides deep within the hearts of those who see the Lord themselves, and inspire others to see Him as well. ||8||26||27||

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
maajh mahalaa 3 |

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ॥
meraa prabh bharapoor rahiaa sabh thaaee |

My God is pervading and permeating all places.

ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
guraparasaadee ghar hee meh paaee |

By Guru's Grace, I have found Him within the home of my own heart.

ਸਦਾ ਸਰੇਵੀ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
sadaa sarevee ik man dhiaaee guramukh sach samaavaniaa |1|

I serve Him constantly, and I meditate on Him single-mindedly. As Gurmukh, I am absorbed in the True One. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vaaree jeeo vaaree jagajeevan man vasaavaniaa |

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Lord, the Life of the World, within their minds.

ਹਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jagajeevan nirbhau daataa guramat sahaj samaavaniaa |1| rahaau |

Through the Guru's Teachings, I merge with intuitive ease into the Lord, the Life of the World, the Fearless One, the Great Giver. ||1||Pause||

ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਧਉਲੁ ਪਾਤਾਲਾ ॥
ghar meh dharatee dhaul paataalaa |

Within the home of the self is the earth, its support and the nether regions of the underworld.

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
ghar hee meh preetam sadaa hai baalaa |

Within the home of the self is the Eternally Young Beloved.

ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
sadaa anand rahai sukhadaataa guramat sahaj samaavaniaa |2|

The Giver of peace is eternally blissful. Through the Guru's Teachings, we are absorbed in intuitive peace. ||2||

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
kaaeaa andar haumai meraa |

When the body is filled with ego and selfishness,

ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰਾ ॥
jaman maran na chookai feraa |

the cycle of birth and death does not end.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
guramukh hovai su haumai maare sacho sach dhiaavaniaa |3|

One who becomes Gurmukh subdues egotism, and meditates on the Truest of the True. ||3||

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥
kaaeaa andar paap pun due bhaaee |

Within this body are the two brothers, sin and virtue.

ਦੁਹੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
duhee mil kai srisatt upaaee |

When the two joined together, the Universe was produced.

ਦੋਵੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
dovai maar jaae ikat ghar aavai guramat sahaj samaavaniaa |4|

Subduing both, and entering into the Home of the One, through the Guru's Teachings, we are absorbed in intuitive peace. ||4||

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਅਨੇਰਾ ॥
ghar hee maeh doojai bhaae aneraa |

Within the home of the self is the darkness of the love of duality.

ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਛੋਡੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
chaanan hovai chhoddai haumai meraa |

When the Divine Light dawns, ego and selfishness are dispelled.

ਪਰਗਟੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
paragatt sabad hai sukhadaataa anadin naam dhiaavaniaa |5|

The Giver of peace is revealed through the Shabad, meditating upon the Naam, night and day. ||5||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
antar jot paragatt paasaaraa |

Deep within the self is the Light of God; It radiates throughout the expanse of His creation.

ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥
gur saakhee mittiaa andhiaaraa |

Through the Guru's Teachings, the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled.

ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਾਸਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
kamal bigaas sadaa sukh paaeaa jotee jot milaavaniaa |6|

The heart-lotus blossoms forth, and eternal peace is obtained, as one's light merges into the Light. ||6||

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲ ਰਤਨੀ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
andar mahal ratanee bhare bhanddaaraa |

Within the mansion is the treasure house, overflowing with jewels.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
guramukh paae naam apaaraa |

The Gurmukh obtains the Infinite Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
guramukh vanaje sadaa vaapaaree laahaa naam sad paavaniaa |7|

The Gurmukh, the trader, always purchases the merchandise of the Naam, and always reaps profits. ||7||

ਆਪੇ ਵਥੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥
aape vath raakhai aape dee |

The Lord Himself keeps this merchandise in stock, and He Himself distributes it.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਕੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥
guramukh vanajeh keee kee |

Rare is that Gurmukh who trades in this.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੭॥੨੮॥
naanak jis nadar kare so paae kar kirapaa man vasaavaniaa |8|27|28|

O Nanak, those upon whom the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, obtain it. Through His Mercy, it is enshrined in the mind. ||8||27||28||

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
maajh mahalaa 3 |

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
har aape mele sev karaae |

The Lord Himself leads us to merge with Him and serve Him.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਜਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad bhaau doojaa jaae |

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the love of duality is eradicated.

ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
har niramal sadaa gunadaataa har gun meh aap samaavaniaa |1|

The Immaculate Lord is the Bestower of eternal virtue. The Lord Himself leads us to merge in His Virtuous Goodness. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
hau vaaree jeeo vaaree sach sachaa hiradai vasaavaniaa |

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Truest of the True within their hearts.

ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sachaa naam sadaa hai niramal gurasabadee man vasaavaniaa |1| rahaau |

The True Name is eternally pure and immaculate. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it is enshrined within the mind. ||1||Pause||

ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
aape gur daataa karam bidhaataa |

The Guru Himself is the Giver, the Architect of Destiny.

ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
sevak seveh guramukh har jaataa |

The Gurmukh, the humble servant who serves the Lord, comes to know Him.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
amrit naam sadaa jan soheh guramat har ras paavaniaa |2|

Those humble beings look beautiful forever in the Ambrosial Naam. Through the Guru's Teachings, they receive the sublime essence of the Lord. ||2||

ਇਸੁ ਗੁਫਾ ਮਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥
eis gufaa meh ik thaan suhaaeaa |

Within the cave of this body, there is one beautiful place.

ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
poorai gur haumai bharam chukaaeaa |

Through the Perfect Guru, ego and doubt are dispelled.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
anadin naam salaahan rang raate gur kirapaa te paavaniaa |3|

Night and day, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord; imbued with the Lord's Love, by Guru's Grace, you shall find Him. ||3||
