ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਹਰਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਇਆ ॥੨੬॥
naanak bhe puneet har teerath naaeaa |26|

O Nanak, they are purified, bathing in the sacred shrine of the Lord. ||26||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੪ ॥
salok mahalaa 4 |

Salok, Fourth Mehl:

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
guramukh antar saant hai man tan naam samaae |

Within the Gurmukh is peace and tranquility; his mind and body are absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਨਾਮੋ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੜੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
naamo chitavai naam parrai naam rahai liv laae |

He contemplates the Naam, he studies the Naam, and he remains lovingly absorbed in the Naam.

ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਗਈ ਬਿਲਾਇ ॥
naam padaarath paaeaa chintaa gee bilaae |

He obtains the treasure of the Naam, and his anxiety is dispelled.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥
satigur miliaai naam aoopajai tisanaa bhukh sabh jaae |

Meeting with the Guru, the Naam wells up, and his thirst and hunger are completely relieved.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਨਾਮੋ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak naame ratiaa naamo palai paae |1|

O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, he gathers in the Naam. ||1||

Fourth Mehl:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਜਿ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਆ ਘਰੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਗਇਆ ॥
satigur purakh ji maariaa bhram bhramiaa ghar chhodd geaa |

One who is cursed by the True Guru, abandons his home, and wanders around aimlessly.

ਓਸੁ ਪਿਛੈ ਵਜੈ ਫਕੜੀ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਆਗੈ ਭਇਆ ॥
os pichhai vajai fakarree muhu kaalaa aagai bheaa |

He is jeered at, and his face is blackened in the world hereafter.

ਓਸੁ ਅਰਲੁ ਬਰਲੁ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਨਿਕਲੈ ਨਿਤ ਝਗੂ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਮੁਆ ॥
os aral baral muhahu nikalai nit jhagoo suttadaa muaa |

He babbles incoherently, and foaming at the mouth, he dies.

ਕਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਹੀ ਦੈ ਕੀਤੈ ਜਾਂ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਏਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਪਇਆ ॥
kiaa hovai kisai hee dai keetai jaan dhur kirat os daa eho jehaa peaa |

What can anyone do? Such is his destiny, according to his past deeds.

ਜਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
jithai ohu jaae tithai ohu jhootthaa koorr bole kisai na bhaavai |

Wherever he goes, he is a liar, and by telling lies, he not liked by anyone.

ਵੇਖਹੁ ਭਾਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਜੈਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
vekhahu bhaaee vaddiaaee har santahu suaamee apune kee jaisaa koee karai taisaa koee paavai |

O Siblings of Destiny, behold this, the glorious greatness of our Lord and Master, O Saints; as one behaves, so does he receive.

ਏਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਅਗੋ ਦੇ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
ehu braham beechaar hovai dar saachai ago de jan naanak aakh sunaavai |2|

This shall be God's determination in His True Court; servant Nanak predicts and proclaims this. ||2||

Pauree:

ਗੁਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਬਧਾ ਥੇਹੁ ਰਖਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਤੇ ॥
gur sachai badhaa thehu rakhavaale gur dite |

The True Guru has established the village; the Guru has appointed its guards and protectors.

ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਆਸ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨ ਰਤੇ ॥
pooran hoee aas gur charanee man rate |

My hopes are fulfilled, and my mind is imbued with the love of the Guru's Feet.

ਗੁਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਬੇਅੰਤਿ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਸਭਿ ਹਤੇ ॥
gur kripaal beant avagun sabh hate |

The Guru is infinitely merciful; He has erased all my sins.

ਗੁਰਿ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਅਪਣੇ ਕਰਿ ਲਿਤੇ ॥
gur apanee kirapaa dhaar apane kar lite |

The Guru has showered me with His Mercy, and He has made me His own.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਇਤੇ ॥੨੭॥
naanak sad balihaar jis gur ke gun ite |27|

Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the Guru, who has countless virtues. ||27||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Salok, First Mehl:

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਰਜਾਇ ਲੇਖਿਆ ਪਾਇ ਅਬ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਜੈ ਪਾਂਡੇ ॥
taa kee rajaae lekhiaa paae ab kiaa keejai paandde |

By His Command, we receive our pre-ordained rewards; so what can we do now, O Pandit?

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਹਾਸਲੁ ਤਦੇ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਬੜਿਆ ਹੰਢਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਕਮਾਂਦੇ ॥੧॥
hukam hoaa haasal tade hoe nibarriaa handteh jeea kamaande |1|

When His Command is received, then it is decided; all beings move and act accordingly. ||1||

ਮਃ ੨ ॥
mahalaa 2 |

Second Mehl:

ਨਕਿ ਨਥ ਖਸਮ ਹਥ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਧਕੇ ਦੇ ॥
nak nath khasam hath kirat dhake de |

The string through the nose is in the hands of the Lord Master; one's own actions drive him on.

ਜਹਾ ਦਾਣੇ ਤਹਾਂ ਖਾਣੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਚੁ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
jahaa daane tahaan khaane naanakaa sach he |2|

Wherever his food is, there he eats it; O Nanak, this is the Truth. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਸਭੇ ਗਲਾ ਆਪਿ ਥਾਟਿ ਬਹਾਲੀਓਨੁ ॥
sabhe galaa aap thaatt bahaaleeon |

The Lord Himself puts everything in its proper place.

ਆਪੇ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਘਾਲਿਓਨੁ ॥
aape rachan rachaae aape hee ghaalion |

He Himself created the creation, and He Himself destroys it.

ਆਪੇ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿਓਨੁ ॥
aape jant upaae aap pratipaalion |

He Himself fashions His creatures, and He Himself nourishes them.

ਦਾਸ ਰਖੇ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਓਨੁ ॥
daas rakhe kantth laae nadar nihaalion |

He hugs His slaves close in His embrace, and blesses them with His Glance of Grace.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਜਾਲਿਓਨੁ ॥੨੮॥
naanak bhagataa sadaa anand bhaau doojaa jaalion |28|

O Nanak, His devotees are forever in bliss; they have burnt away the love of duality. ||28||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Salok, Third Mehl:

ਏ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਚਿਤਿ ਭਾਇ ॥
e man har jee dhiaae too ik man ik chit bhaae |

O mind, meditate on the Dear Lord, with single-minded conscious concentration.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਇ ॥
har keea sadaa sadaa vaddiaaeea dee na pachhotaae |

The glorious greatness of the Lord shall last forever and ever; He never regrets what He gives.

ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
hau har kai sad balihaaranai jit seviaai sukh paae |

I am forever a sacrifice to the Lord; serving Him, peace is obtained.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak guramukh mil rahai haumai sabad jalaae |1|

O Nanak, the Gurmukh remains merged with the Lord; he burns away his ego through the Word of the Shabad. ||1||

ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Third Mehl:

ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
aape sevaa laaeian aape bakhas karee |

He Himself enjoins us to serve Him, and He Himself blesses us with forgiveness.

ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਮਾ ਪਿਉ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
sabhanaa kaa maa piau aap hai aape saar karee |

He Himself is the father and mother of all; He Himself cares for us.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਤਿਨ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak naam dhiaaein tin nij ghar vaas hai jug jug sobhaa hoe |2|

O Nanak, those who meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, abide in the home of their inner being; they are honored throughout the ages. ||2||

ਤੂ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਹਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
too karan kaaran samarath heh karate mai tujh bin avar na koee |

You are the Creator, all-powerful, able to do anything. Without You, there is no other at all.
