ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
jug chaare gur sabad pachhaataa |

Throughout the four ages, he recognizes the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਨਮੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
guramukh marai na janamai guramukh guramukh sabad samaahaa he |10|

The Gurmukh does not die, the Gurmukh is not reborn; the Gurmukh is immersed in the Shabad. ||10||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ॥
guramukh naam sabad saalaahe |

The Gurmukh praises the Naam, and the Shabad.

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥
agam agochar veparavaahe |

God is inaccessible, unfathomable and self-sufficient.

ਏਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਸਬਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
ek naam jug chaar udhaare sabade naam visaahaa he |11|

The Naam, the Name of the One Lord, saves and redeems throughout the four ages. Through the Shabad, one trades in the Naam. ||11||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
guramukh saant sadaa sukh paae |

The Gurmukh obtains eternal peace and tranqulity.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
guramukh hiradai naam vasaae |

The Gurmukh enshrines the Naam within his heart.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਾਟੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਫਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
guramukh hovai so naam boojhai kaatte duramat faahaa he |12|

One who becomes Gurmukh recognizes the Naam, and the noose of evil-mindedness is snapped. ||12||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
guramukh upajai saach samaavai |

The Gurmukh wells up from, and then merges back into Truth.

ਨਾ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਨ ਜੂਨੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
naa mar jamai na joonee paavai |

He does not die and take birth, and is not consigned to reincarnation.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲੈਦੇ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
guramukh sadaa raheh rang raate anadin laide laahaa he |13|

The Gurmukh remains forever imbued with the color of the Lord's Love. Night and day, he earns a profit. ||13||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥
guramukh bhagat soheh darabaare |

The Gurmukhs, the devotees, are exalted and beautified in the Court of the Lord.

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
sachee baanee sabad savaare |

They are embellished with the True Word of His Bani, and the Word of the Shabad.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਹਜ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
anadin gun gaavai din raatee sahaj setee ghar jaahaa he |14|

Night and day, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, day and night, and they intuitively go to their own home. ||14||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
satigur pooraa sabad sunaae |

The Perfect True Guru proclaims the Shabad;

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
anadin bhagat karahu liv laae |

night and day, remain lovingly attuned to devotional worship.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਣ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
har gun gaaveh sad hee niramal niramal gun paatisaahaa he |15|

One who sings forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord, becomes immaculate; Immaculate are the Glorious Praises of the Sovereign Lord . ||15||

ਗੁਣ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
gun kaa daataa sachaa soee |

The True Lord is the Giver of virtue.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
guramukh viralaa boojhai koee |

How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, understand this.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੨॥੧੧॥
naanak jan naam salaahe bigasai so naam beparavaahaa he |16|2|11|

Servant Nanak praises the Naam; he blossoms forth in the ecstasy of the Name of the self-sufficient Lord. ||16||2||11||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
maaroo mahalaa 3 |

Maaroo, Third Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
har jeeo sevihu agam apaaraa |

Serve the Dear Lord, the inaccessible and infinite.

ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
tis daa ant na paaeeai paaraavaaraa |

He has no end or limitation.

ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਮਤਿ ਅਗਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
guraparasaad raviaa ghatt antar tith ghatt mat agaahaa he |1|

By Guru's Grace, one who dwells upon the Lord deep within his heart - his heart is filled with infinite wisdom. ||1||

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
sabh meh varatai eko soee |

The One Lord is pervading and permeating amidst all.

ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
guraparasaadee paragatt hoee |

By Guru's Grace, He is revealed.

ਸਭਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ਕਰੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦੇਦਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
sabhanaa pratipaal kare jagajeevan dedaa rijak sanbaahaa he |2|

The Life of the world nurtures and cherishes all, giving sustenance to all. ||2||

ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝਿ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ॥
poorai satigur boojh bujhaaeaa |

The Perfect True Guru has imparted this understanding.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
hukame hee sabh jagat upaaeaa |

By the Hukam of His Command, He created the entire Universe.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
hukam mane soee sukh paae hukam sir saahaa paatisaahaa he |3|

Whoever submits to His Command, finds peace; His Command is above the heads of kings and emperors. ||3||

ਸਚਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
sachaa satigur sabad apaaraa |

True is the True Guru. Infinite is the Word of His Shabad.

ਤਿਸ ਦੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
tis dai sabad nisatarai sansaaraa |

Through His Shabad, the world is saved.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਦੇਦਾ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
aape karataa kar kar vekhai dedaa saas giraahaa he |4|

The Creator Himself created the creation; He gazes upon it, and blesses it with breath and nourishment. ||4||

ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
kott madhe kiseh bujhaae |

Out of millions, only a few understand.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad rate rang laae |

Imbued with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they are colored in His Love.

ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
har saalaaheh sadaa sukhadaataa har bakhase bhagat salaahaa he |5|

They praise the Lord, the Giver of peace forever; the Lord forgives His devotees, and blesses them with His Praise. ||5||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ॥
satigur seveh se jan saache |

Those humble beings who serve the True Guru are true.

ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਕਾਚਨਿ ਕਾਚੇ ॥
jo mar jameh kaachan kaache |

The falsest of the false die, only to be reborn.

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
agam agochar veparavaahaa bhagat vachhal athaahaa he |6|

The inaccessible, unfathomable, self-sufficient, incomprehensible Lord is the Lover of His devotees. ||6||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
satigur pooraa saach drirraae |

The Perfect True Guru implants Truth within.

ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥
sachai sabad sadaa gun gaae |

Through the True Word of the Shabad, they sing His Glorious Praises forever.

ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਲਿਖਦਾ ਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
gunadaataa varatai sabh antar sir sir likhadaa saahaa he |7|

The Giver of virtue is pervading deep within the nucleus of all beings; He inscribes the time of destiny upon each and every person's head. ||7||

ਸਦਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
sadaa hadoor guramukh jaapai |

The Gurmukh knows that God is always ever-present.

ਸਬਦੇ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ॥
sabade sevai so jan dhraapai |

That humble being who serves the Shabad, is comforted and fulfilled.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਓਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
anadin seveh sachee baanee sabad sachai omaahaa he |8|

Night and day, he serves the True Word of the Guru's Bani; he delights in the True Word of the Shabad. ||8||

ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
agiaanee andhaa bahu karam drirraae |

The ignorant and blind cling to all sorts of rituals.

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
manahatth karam fir jonee paae |

They stubborn-mindedly perform these rituals, and are consigned to reincarnation.
