ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
aape bakhase sach drirraae man tan saachai raataa he |11|

He Himself forgives, and implants the Truth. The mind and body are then attuned to the True Lord. ||11||

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
man tan mailaa vich jot apaaraa |

Within the polluted mind and body is the Light of the Infinite Lord.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਰਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
guramat boojhai kar veechaaraa |

One who understands the Guru's Teachings, contemplates this.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
haumai maar sadaa man niramal rasanaa sev sukhadaataa he |12|

Conquering egotism, the mind becomes immaculate forever; with his tongue, he serves the Lord, the Giver of peace. ||12||

ਗੜ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਹੁ ਹਟ ਬਾਜਾਰਾ ॥
garr kaaeaa andar bahu hatt baajaaraa |

In the fortress of the body there are many shops and bazaars;

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
tis vich naam hai at apaaraa |

within them is the Naam, the Name of the utterly infinite Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
gur kai sabad sadaa dar sohai haumai maar pachhaataa he |13|

In His Court, one is embellished forever with the Word of the Guru's Shabad; he conquers egotism and realizes the Lord. ||13||

ਰਤਨੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
ratan amolak agam apaaraa |

The jewel is priceless, inaccessible and infinite.

ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਵਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ॥
keemat kavan kare vechaaraa |

How can the poor wretch estimate its worth?

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋਲਾਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
gur kai sabade tol tolaae antar sabad pachhaataa he |14|

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it is weighed, and so the Shabad is realized deep within. ||14||

ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ॥
simrit saasatr bahut bisathaaraa |

The great volumes of the Simritees and the Shaastras

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
maaeaa mohu pasariaa paasaaraa |

Only extend the extension of attachment to Maya.

ਮੂਰਖ ਪੜਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
moorakh parreh sabad na boojheh guramukh viralai jaataa he |15|

The fools read them, but do not understand the Word of the Shabad. How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, understand. ||15||

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
aape karataa kare karaae |

The Creator Himself acts, and causes all to act.

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥
sachee baanee sach drirraae |

Through the True Word of His Bani, Truth is implanted deep within.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੯॥
naanak naam milai vaddiaaee jug jug eko jaataa he |16|9|

O Nanak, through the Naam, one is blessed with glorious greatness, and throughout the ages, the One Lord is known. ||16||9||

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
maaroo mahalaa 3 |

Maaroo, Third Mehl:

ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਸੇਵਿਹੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
so sach sevihu sirajanahaaraa |

Serve the True Creator Lord.

ਸਬਦੇ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
sabade dookh nivaaranahaaraa |

The Word of the Shabad is the Destroyer of pain.

ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ਆਪੇ ਅਗਮ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
agam agochar keemat nahee paaee aape agam athaahaa he |1|

He is inaccessible and unfathomable; He cannot be evaluated. He Himself is inaccessible and immeasurable. ||1||

ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤਾਏ ॥
aape sachaa sach varataae |

The True Lord Himself makes Truth pervasive.

ਇਕਿ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੈ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
eik jan saachai aape laae |

He attaches some humble beings to the Truth.

ਸਾਚੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
saacho seveh saach kamaaveh naame sach samaahaa he |2|

They serve the True Lord and practice Truth; through the Name, they are absorbed in the True Lord. ||2||

ਧੁਰਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
dhur bhagataa mele aap milaae |

The Primal Lord unites His devotees in His Union.

ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
sachee bhagatee aape laae |

He attaches them to true devotional worship.

ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਇਸੁ ਜਨਮੈ ਕਾ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
saachee baanee sadaa gun gaavai is janamai kaa laahaa he |3|

One who sings forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord, through the True Word of His Bani, earns the profit of this life. ||3||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਰੁ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ॥
guramukh vanaj kareh par aap pachhaaneh |

The Gurmukh trades, and understands his own self.

ਏਕਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ॥
ekas bin ko avar na jaaneh |

He knows no other than the One Lord.

ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਚੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
sachaa saahu sache vanajaare poonjee naam visaahaa he |4|

True is the banker, and True are His traders, who buy the merchandise of the Naam. ||4||

ਆਪੇ ਸਾਜੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
aape saaje srisatt upaae |

He Himself fashions and creates the Universe.

ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
virale kau gurasabad bujhaae |

He inspires a few to realize the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਾਟੇ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਫਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
satigur seveh se jan saache kaatte jam kaa faahaa he |5|

Those humble beings who serve the True Guru are true. He snaps the noose of death from around their necks. ||5||

ਭੰਨੈ ਘੜੇ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਸਾਜੇ ॥
bhanai gharre savaare saaje |

He destroys, creates, embellishes and fashions all beings,

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਜੰਤ ਪਾਜੇ ॥
maaeaa mohi doojai jant paaje |

and attaches them to duality, attachment and Maya.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਜੇਵੜਾ ਗਲਿ ਫਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
manamukh fireh sadaa andh kamaaveh jam kaa jevarraa gal faahaa he |6|

The self-willed manmukhs wander around forever, acting blindly. Death has strung his noose around their necks. ||6||

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥
aape bakhase gur sevaa laae |

He Himself forgives, and enjoins us to serve the Guru.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
guramatee naam man vasaae |

Through the Guru's Teachings, the Naam comes to dwell within the mind.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਸਾਚਾ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
anadin naam dhiaae saachaa is jag meh naamo laahaa he |7|

Night and day, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the True Lord, and earn the profit of the Naam in this world. ||7||

ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥
aape sachaa sachee naaee |

He Himself is True, and True is His Name.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
guramukh devai man vasaaee |

The Gurmukh bestows it, and enshrines it within the mind.

ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਸਿਰਿ ਚੂਕਾ ਕਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
jin man vasiaa se jan soheh tin sir chookaa kaahaa he |8|

Noble and exalted are those, within whose mind the Lord abides. Their heads are free of strife. ||8||

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
agam agochar keemat nahee paaee |

He is inaccessible and unfathomable; His value cannot be appraised.

ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
guraparasaadee man vasaaee |

By Guru's Grace, He dwells within the mind.

ਸਦਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੰਗੈ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
sadaa sabad saalaahee gunadaataa lekhaa koe na mangai taahaa he |9|

No one calls that person to account, who praises the Word of the Shabad, the Giver of virtue. ||9||

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਰੁਦ੍ਰੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
brahamaa bisan rudru tis kee sevaa |

Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva serve Him.

ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥
ant na paaveh alakh abhevaa |

Even they cannot find the limits of the unseen, unknowable Lord.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੂ ਅਪਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
jin kau nadar kareh too apanee guramukh alakh lakhaahaa he |10|

Those who are blessed by Your Glance of Grace, become Gurmukh, and comprehend the incomprehensible. ||10||
