ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਵਲਿ ਹੋਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ॥
jan naanak kai val hoaa meraa suaamee har sajan purakh sujaan |

My Lord and Master is on the side of servant Nanak. The All-powerful and All-knowing Lord God is my Best Friend.

ਪਉਦੀ ਭਿਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਸਭਿ ਆਇ ਪਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਲਾਹਿਓਨੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਿਅਹੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥੧੦॥
paudee bhit dekh kai sabh aae pe satigur kee pairee laahion sabhanaa kiahu manahu gumaan |10|

Seeing the food being distributed, everyone came and fell at the feet of the True Guru, who cleansed the minds of all of their egotistical pride. ||10||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Salok, First Mehl:

ਕੋਈ ਵਾਹੇ ਕੋ ਲੁਣੈ ਕੋ ਪਾਏ ਖਲਿਹਾਨਿ ॥
koee vaahe ko lunai ko paae khalihaan |

One plants the seed, another harvests the crop, and still another beats the grain from the chaff.

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਵ ਨ ਜਾਪਈ ਕੋਈ ਖਾਇ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ॥੧॥
naanak ev na jaapee koee khaae nidaan |1|

O Nanak, it is not known, who will ultimately eat the grain. ||1||

First Mehl:

ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਤਰਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥
jis man vasiaa tariaa soe |

He alone is carried across, within whose mind the Lord abides.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak jo bhaavai so hoe |2|

O Nanak, that alone happens, which is pleasing to His Will. ||2||

Pauree:

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਾਰਿਆ ॥
paarabraham deaal saagar taariaa |

The Merciful Supreme Lord God has carried me across the world-ocean.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
gur poorai miharavaan bharam bhau maariaa |

The compassionate perfect Guru has eradicated my doubts and fears.

ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਬਿਕਰਾਲੁ ਦੂਤ ਸਭਿ ਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
kaam krodh bikaraal doot sabh haariaa |

Unsatisfied sexual desire and unresolved anger, the horrible demons, have been totally destroyed.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
amrit naam nidhaan kantth ur dhaariaa |

I have enshrined the treasure of the Ambrosial Naam within my throat and heart.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥੧੧॥
naanak saadhoo sang janam maran savaariaa |11|

O Nanak, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, my birth and death have been adorned and redeemed. ||11||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Salok, Third Mehl:

ਜਿਨੑੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਕੂੜੇ ਕਹਣ ਕਹੰਨਿੑ ॥
jinaee naam visaariaa koorre kahan kahani |

Those who forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are said to be false.

ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਤਿਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਮੁਹਨਿੑ ਹਉਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੰਨਿੑ ॥
panch chor tinaa ghar muhani haumai andar sani |

The five thieves plunder their homes, and egotism breaks in.

ਸਾਕਤ ਮੁਠੇ ਦੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੰਨਿੑ ॥
saakat mutthe duramatee har ras na jaanani |

The faithless cynics are defrauded by their own evil-mindedness; they do not know the sublime essence of the Lord.

ਜਿਨੑੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਲੁਟਾਇਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਸਿਉ ਰਚਹਿ ਰਚੰਨਿੑ ॥
jinaee amrit bharam luttaaeaa bikh siau racheh rachani |

Those who lose the Ambrosial Nectar through doubt, remain engrossed and entangled in corruption.

ਦੁਸਟਾ ਸੇਤੀ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਜਨ ਸਿਉ ਵਾਦੁ ਕਰੰਨਿੑ ॥
dusattaa setee piraharree jan siau vaad karani |

They make friends with the wicked, and argue with the humble servants of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰਕ ਮਹਿ ਜਮਿ ਬਧੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਹੰਨਿੑ ॥
naanak saakat narak meh jam badhe dukh sahani |

O Nanak, the faithless cynics are bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death, and suffer agony in hell.

ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਜਿਵ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਹੰਨਿੑ ॥੧॥
peaai kirat kamaavade jiv raakheh tivai rahani |1|

They act according to the karma of the actions they committed before; as the Lord keeps them, so do they live. ||1||

Third Mehl:

ਜਿਨੑੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਾਣੁ ਨਿਤਾਣੇ ਤਿਸੁ ॥
jinaee satigur seviaa taan nitaane tis |

Those who serve the True Guru, are transformed from powerless into powerful.

ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤਿਸੁ ॥
saas giraas sadaa man vasai jam johi na sakai tis |

With every breath and morsel of food, the Lord abides in their minds forever, and the Messenger of Death cannot even see them.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਕਵਲਾ ਸੇਵਕਿ ਤਿਸੁ ॥
hiradai har har naam ras kavalaa sevak tis |

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, fills their hearts, and Maya is their servant.

ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਪਰਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਤਿਸੁ ॥
har daasaa kaa daas hoe param padaarath tis |

One who becomes the slave of the Lord's slaves, obtains the greatest treasure.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਵਸੈ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ਤਿਸੁ ॥
naanak man tan jis prabh vasai hau sad kurabaanai tis |

O Nanak, I am forever a sacrifice to that one, within whose mind and body God dwells.

ਜਿਨੑ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਰਸੁ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਸਿਉ ਤਿਸੁ ॥੨॥
jina kau poorab likhiaa ras sant janaa siau tis |2|

One who has such pre-ordained destiny, he alone is in love with the humble Saints. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਜੋ ਬੋਲੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੋ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਸੁਣਿਆ ॥
jo bole pooraa satiguroo so paramesar suniaa |

Whatever the Perfect True Guru says, the Transcendent Lord hears.

ਸੋਈ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਣਿਆ ॥
soee varatiaa jagat meh ghatt ghatt mukh bhaniaa |

It pervades and permeates the whole world, and it is on the mouth of each and every being.

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਸਾਹਿਬੈ ਨਹ ਜਾਹੀ ਗਣੀਆ ॥
bahut vaddiaaeea saahibai nah jaahee ganeea |

So numerous are the great glories of the Lord, they cannot even be counted.

ਸਚੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਅਨਦੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸਿ ਸਚੀ ਗੁਰ ਮਣੀਆ ॥
sach sahaj anad satiguroo paas sachee gur maneea |

Truth, poise and bliss rest in the True Guru; the Guru bestows the jewel of Truth.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਸਚੇ ਜਿਉ ਬਣਿਆ ॥੧੨॥
naanak sant savaare paarabraham sache jiau baniaa |12|

O Nanak, the Supreme Lord God embellishes the Saints, who become like the True Lord. ||12||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Salok, Third Mehl:

ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
apanaa aap na pachhaanee har prabh jaataa door |

He does not understand himself; he believes the Lord God to be far away.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਸਰੀ ਕਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
gur kee sevaa visaree kiau man rahai hajoor |

He forgets to serve the Guru; how can his mind remain in the Lord's Presence?

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਝੂਠੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਕੂਰਿ ॥
manamukh janam gavaaeaa jhootthai laalach koor |

The self-willed manmukh wastes away his life in worthless greed and falsehood.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥
naanak bakhas milaaeian sachai sabad hadoor |1|

O Nanak, the Lord forgives, and blends them with Himself; through the True Word of the Shabad, He is ever-present. ||1||

Third Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
har prabh sachaa sohilaa guramukh naam govind |

True is the Praise of the Lord God; the Gurmukh chants the Name of the Lord of the Universe.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ॥
anadin naam salaahanaa har japiaa man aanand |

Praising the Naam night and day, and meditating on the Lord, the mind becomes blissful.

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ॥
vaddabhaagee har paaeaa pooran paramaanand |

By great good fortune, I have found the Lord, the perfect embodiment of supreme bliss.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ॥੨॥
jan naanak naam salaahiaa bahurr na man tan bhang |2|

Servant Nanak praises the Naam; his mind and body shall never again be shattered. ||2||
