ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਆ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ਚੂਕਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥
jis te hoaa tiseh samaanaa chook geaa paasaaraa |4|1|

It shall eventually merge back into that from which it came, and all its expanse shall be gone. ||4||1||

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Malaar, Third Mehl:

ਜਿਨੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥
jinee hukam pachhaaniaa se mele haumai sabad jalaae |

Those who realize the Hukam of the Lord's Command are united with Him; through the Word of His Shabad, their egotism is burnt away.

ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
sachee bhagat kareh din raatee sach rahe liv laae |

They perform true devotional worship day and night; they remain lovingly attuned to the True Lord.

ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧॥
sadaa sach har vekhade gur kai sabad subhaae |1|

They gaze on their True Lord forever, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, with loving ease. ||1||

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
man re hukam man sukh hoe |

O mortal, accept His Will and find peace.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਭਾਵਦਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
prabh bhaanaa apanaa bhaavadaa jis bakhase tis bighan na koe |1| rahaau |

God is pleased by the Pleasure of His Own Will. Whomever He forgives, meets no obstacles on the way. ||1||Pause||

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਸਭਾ ਧਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਇ ॥
trai gun sabhaa dhaat hai naa har bhagat na bhaae |

Under the influence of the three gunas, the three dispositions, the mind wanders everywhere, without love or devotion to the Lord.

ਗਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
gat mukat kade na hovee haumai karam kamaeh |

No one is ever saved or liberated, by doing deeds in ego.

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਫਿਰਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
saahib bhaavai so theeai peaai kirat firaeh |2|

Whatever our Lord and Master wills, comes to pass. People wander according to their past actions. ||2||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟਿਐ ਮਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਰਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
satigur bhettiaai man mar rahai har naam vasai man aae |

Meeting with the True Guru, the mind is overpowered; the Lord's Name comes to abide in the mind.

ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
tis kee keemat naa pavai kahanaa kichhoo na jaae |

The value of such a person cannot be estimated; nothing at all can be said about him.

ਚਉਥੈ ਪਦਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
chauthai pad vaasaa hoeaa sachai rahai samaae |3|

He comes to dwell in the fourth state; he remains merged in the True Lord. ||3||

ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਹੈ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
meraa har prabh agam agochar hai keemat kahan na jaae |

My Lord God is Inaccessible and Unfathomable. His value cannot be expressed.

ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਸਬਦੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
guraparasaadee bujheeai sabade kaar kamaae |

By Guru's Grace, he comes to understand, and live the Shabad.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਤੂ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥੨॥
naanak naam salaeh too har har dar sobhaa paae |4|2|

O Nanak, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; you shall be honored in the Court of the Lord. ||4||2||

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Malaar, Third Mehl:

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
guramukh koee viralaa boojhai jis no nadar karee |

Rare is that person who, as Gurmukh, understands; the Lord has bestowed His Glance of Grace.

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਖਸੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
gur bin daataa koee naahee bakhase nadar karee |

There is no Giver except the Guru. He grants His Grace and forgives.

ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਏਇ ॥੧॥
gur miliaai saant aoopajai anadin naam lee |1|

Meeting the Guru, peace and tranquility well up; chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, day and night. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
mere man har amrit naam dhiaae |

O my mind, meditate on the Ambrosial Name of the Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satigur purakh milai naau paaeeai har naame sadaa samaae |1| rahaau |

Meeting with the True Guru and the Primal Being, the Name is obtained, and one remains forever absorbed in the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
manamukh sadaa vichhurre fireh koe na kis hee naal |

The self-willed manmukhs are forever separated from the Lord; no one is with them.

ਹਉਮੈ ਵਡਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥
haumai vaddaa rog hai sir maare jamakaal |

They are stricken with the great disease of egotism; they are hit on the head by the Messenger of Death.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮੑਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
guramat satasangat na vichhurreh anadin naam samaal |2|

Those who follow the Guru's Teachings are never separated from the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. They dwell on the Naam, night and day. ||2||

ਸਭਨਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਤੂ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
sabhanaa karataa ek too nit kar dekheh veechaar |

You are the One and Only Creator of all. You continually create, watch over and contemplate.

ਇਕਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਬਖਸੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
eik guramukh aap milaaeaa bakhase bhagat bhanddaar |

Some are Gurmukh - You unite them with Yourself. You bless then with the treasure of devotion.

ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਕਰੀ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥੩॥
too aape sabh kichh jaanadaa kis aagai karee pookaar |3|

You Yourself know everything. Unto whom should I complain? ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
har har naam amrit hai nadaree paaeaa jaae |

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is Ambrosial Nectar. By the Lord's Grace, it is obtained.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਉਚਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
anadin har har ucharai gur kai sahaj subhaae |

Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, night and day, the intuitive peace and poise of the Guru is obtained.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥
naanak naam nidhaan hai naame hee chit laae |4|3|

O Nanak, the Naam is the greatest treasure. Focus your consciousness on the Naam. ||4||3||

ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Malaar, Third Mehl:

ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
gur saalaahee sadaa sukhadaataa prabh naaraaein soee |

I praise the Guru, the Giver of peace, forever. He truly is the Lord God.

ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਈ ॥
guraparasaad param pad paaeaa vaddee vaddiaaee hoee |

By Guru's Grace, I have obtained the supreme status. His glorious greatness is glorious!

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥
anadin gun gaavai nit saache sach samaavai soee |1|

One who sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord, merges in the True Lord. ||1||

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
man re guramukh ridai veechaar |

O mortal, contemplate the Guru's Word in your heart.

ਤਜਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਚਲਣੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮੑਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
taj koorr kuttanb haumai bikh trisanaa chalan ridai samaal |1| rahaau |

Abandon your false family, poisonous egotism and desire; remember in your heart, that you will have to leave. ||1||Pause||
