Pauree:

ਤਿਸੈ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀਹੋ ਜਿਸ ਦੈ ਨਾਉ ਪਲੈ ॥
tisai sarevahu praaneeho jis dai naau palai |

Serve Him, O mortals, who has the Lord's Name in His lap.

ਐਥੈ ਰਹਹੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਿਆ ਅਗੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੈ ॥
aaithai rahahu suheliaa agai naal chalai |

You shall dwell in peace and ease in this world; in the world hereafter, it shall go with you.

ਘਰੁ ਬੰਧਹੁ ਸਚ ਧਰਮ ਕਾ ਗਡਿ ਥੰਮੁ ਅਹਲੈ ॥
ghar bandhahu sach dharam kaa gadd tham ahalai |

So build your home of true righteousness, with the unshakable pillars of Dharma.

ਓਟ ਲੈਹੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੈ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਝਲੈ ॥
ott laihu naaraaeinai deen duneea jhalai |

Take the Support of the Lord, who gives support in the spiritual and material worlds.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਕੜੇ ਚਰਣ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਲੈ ॥੮॥
naanak pakarre charan har tis daragah malai |8|

Nanak grasps the Lotus Feet of the Lord; he humbly bows in His Court. ||8||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Salok, Fifth Mehl:

ਜਾਚਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥
jaachak mangai daan dehi piaariaa |

The beggar begs for charity: give to me, O my Beloved!

ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਮੈ ਨਿਤ ਚਿਤਾਰਿਆ ॥
devanahaar daataar mai nit chitaariaa |

O Great Giver, O Giving Lord, my consciousness is continually centered on You.

ਨਿਖੁਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਮੂਲਿ ਅਤੁਲ ਭੰਡਾਰਿਆ ॥
nikhutt na jaaee mool atul bhanddaariaa |

The immeasurable warehouses of the Lord can never be emptied out.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
naanak sabad apaar tin sabh kichh saariaa |1|

O Nanak, the Word of the Shabad is infinite; it has arranged everything perfectly. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

ਸਿਖਹੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਿਆਰਿਹੋ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ॥
sikhahu sabad piaariho janam maran kee ttek |

O Sikhs, love the Word of the Shabad; in life and death, it is our only support.

ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਏਕ ॥੨॥
mukh aoojal sadaa sukhee naanak simarat ek |2|

Your face shall be radiant, and you shall find a lasting peace, O Nanak, remembering the One Lord in meditation. ||2||

Pauree:

ਓਥੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵੰਡੀਐ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਣੇ ॥
othai amrit vanddeeai sukheea har karane |

There, the Ambrosial Nectar is distributed; the Lord is the Bringer of peace.

ਜਮ ਕੈ ਪੰਥਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਰਣੇ ॥
jam kai panth na paaeeeh fir naahee marane |

They are not placed upon the path of Death, and they shall not have to die again.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਇਆ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਹੀ ਜਰਣੇ ॥
jis no aaeaa prem ras tisai hee jarane |

One who comes to savor the Lord's Love experiences it.

ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਰਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਅਮਿਉ ਚਲਹਿ ਝਰਣੇ ॥
baanee uchareh saadh jan amiau chaleh jharane |

The Holy beings chant the Bani of the Word, like nectar flowing from a spring.

ਪੇਖਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਧਰਣੇ ॥੯॥
pekh darasan naanak jeeviaa man andar dharane |9|

Nanak lives by beholding the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of those who have implanted the Lord's Name within their minds. ||9||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Salok, Fifth Mehl:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਦੂਖਾ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਸੁ ॥
satigur poorai seviaai dookhaa kaa hoe naas |

Serving the Perfect True Guru, suffering ends.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਅਰਾਧਿਐ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥
naanak naam araadhiaai kaaraj aavai raas |1|

O Nanak, worshipping the Naam in adoration, one's affairs come to be resolved. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੰਕਟ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਅਨਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥
jis simarat sankatt chhutteh anad mangal bisraam |

Remembering Him in meditation, misfortune departs, and one comes to abide in peace and bliss.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਉ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥
naanak japeeai sadaa har nimakh na bisrau naam |2|

O Nanak, meditate forever on the Lord - do not forget Him, even for an instant. ||2||

Pauree:

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਕਿਆ ਗਣੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਧਾ ॥
tin kee sobhaa kiaa ganee jinee har har ladhaa |

How can I estimate the glory of those, who have found the Lord, Har, Har?

ਸਾਧਾ ਸਰਣੀ ਜੋ ਪਵੈ ਸੋ ਛੁਟੈ ਬਧਾ ॥
saadhaa saranee jo pavai so chhuttai badhaa |

One who seeks the Sanctuary of the Holy is released from bondage.

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀਐ ਜੋਨਿ ਗਰਭਿ ਨ ਦਧਾ ॥
gun gaavai abinaaseeai jon garabh na dadhaa |

One who sings the Glorious Praises of the Imperishable Lord does not burn in the womb of reincarnation.

ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਪੜਿ ਬੁਝਿ ਸਮਧਾ ॥
gur bhettiaa paarabraham har parr bujh samadhaa |

One who meets the Guru and the Supreme Lord God, who reads and understands, enters the state of Samaadhi.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋ ਧਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਧਾ ॥੧੦॥
naanak paaeaa so dhanee har agam agadhaa |10|

Nanak has obtained that Lord Master, who is inaccessible and unfathomable. ||10||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥
salok mahalaa 5 |

Salok, Fifth Mehl:

ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਰਹੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਅਵਤਾ ਲੋਇ ॥
kaam na karahee aapanaa fireh avataa loe |

People do not perform their duties, but instead, they wander around aimlessly.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਇ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਿਨੇਹਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak naae visaariaai sukh kinehaa hoe |1|

O Nanak, if they forget the Name, how can they ever find peace? ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

ਬਿਖੈ ਕਉੜਤਣਿ ਸਗਲ ਮਾਹਿ ਜਗਤਿ ਰਹੀ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
bikhai kaurratan sagal maeh jagat rahee lapattaae |

The bitter poison of corruption is everywhere; it clings to the substance of the world.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿਆ ਮੀਠਾ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥
naanak jan veechaariaa meetthaa har kaa naau |2|

O Nanak, the humble being has realized that the Name of the Lord alone is sweet. ||2||

Pauree:

ਇਹ ਨੀਸਾਣੀ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਤਰੀਐ ॥
eih neesaanee saadh kee jis bhettat tareeai |

This is the distinguishing sign of the Holy Saint, that by meeting with him, one is saved.

ਜਮਕੰਕਰੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਮਰੀਐ ॥
jamakankar nerr na aavee fir bahurr na mareeai |

The Messenger of Death does not come near him; he never has to die again.

ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਸੋ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੀਐ ॥
bhav saagar sansaar bikh so paar utareeai |

He crosses over the terrifying, poisonous world-ocean.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗੁੰਫਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਸਭ ਮਲੁ ਪਰਹਰੀਐ ॥
har gun gunfahu man maal har sabh mal parahareeai |

So weave the garland of the Lord's Glorious Praises into your mind, and all your filth shall be washed away.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਰਹਰੀਐ ॥੧੧॥
naanak preetam mil rahe paarabraham narahareeai |11|

Nanak remains blended with his Beloved, the Supreme Lord God. ||11||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Salok, Fifth Mehl:

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਏ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਵੁਠਾ ਚਿਤਿ ॥
naanak aae se paravaan hai jin har vutthaa chit |

O Nanak, approved is the birth of those, within whose consciousness the Lord abides.

ਗਾਲੑੀ ਅਲ ਪਲਾਲੀਆ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਮਿਤ ॥੧॥
gaalaee al palaaleea kam na aaveh mit |1|

Useless talk and babbling is useless, my friend. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਆਇਆ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਗਮ ਬਿਸਮਾਦ ॥
paarabraham prabh drisattee aaeaa pooran agam bisamaad |

I have come to see the Supreme Lord God, the Perfect, Inaccessible, Wonderful Lord.
