ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਠਾਢੇ ॥੧॥
gur pooraa paaeaa vaddabhaagee har mantru deea man tthaadte |1|

I have found the Perfect Guru, through great good fortune; He has given me the Mantra of the Lord's Name, and my mind has become quiet and tranquil. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਹਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲਾਲੇ ਕਾਂਢੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam ham satigur laale kaandte |1| rahaau |

O Lord, I am the slave of the True Guru. ||1||Pause||

ਹਮਰੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਦਾਗੁ ਦਗਾਨਾ ਹਮ ਕਰਜ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਹੁ ਸਾਢੇ ॥
hamarai masatak daag dagaanaa ham karaj guroo bahu saadte |

My forehead has been branded with His brand; I owe such a great debt to the Guru.

ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਭਉ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਢੇ ॥੨॥
praupakaar pun bahu keea bhau dutar taar paraadte |2|

He has been so generous and kind to me; He has carried me across the treacherous and terrifying world-ocean. ||2||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਕੂਰੇ ਗਾਢਨ ਗਾਢੇ ॥
jin kau preet ridai har naahee tin koore gaadtan gaadte |

Those who do not have love for the Lord within their hearts, harbor only false intentions and goals.

ਜਿਉ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਤ ਹੈ ਤਿਉ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਗਰਭਿ ਗਲਾਢੇ ॥੩॥
jiau paanee kaagad binas jaat hai tiau manamukh garabh galaadte |3|

As paper breaks down and dissolves in water, the self-willed manmukh wastes away in arrogant pride. ||3||

ਹਮ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਹ ਆਗੈ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਉ ਠਾਢੇ ॥
ham jaaniaa kachhoo na jaanah aagai jiau har raakhai tiau tthaadte |

I know nothing, and I do not know the future; as the Lord keeps me, so do I stand.

ਹਮ ਭੂਲ ਚੂਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੁਤਰੇ ਕਾਢੇ ॥੪॥੭॥੨੧॥੫੯॥
ham bhool chook gur kirapaa dhaarahu jan naanak kutare kaadte |4|7|21|59|

For my failings and mistakes, O Guru, grant me Your Grace; servant Nanak is Your obedient dog. ||4||7||21||59||

Gauree Poorbee, Fourth Mehl:

ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਨਗਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਖੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
kaam karodh nagar bahu bhariaa mil saadhoo khanddal khanddaa he |

The body-village is filled to overflowing with sexual desire and anger, which were broken into bits when I met with the Holy Saint.

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਤ ਲਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
poorab likhat likhe gur paaeaa man har liv manddal manddaa he |1|

By pre-ordained destiny, I have met with the Guru. I have entered into the realm of the Lord's Love. ||1||

ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਅੰਜੁਲੀ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
kar saadhoo anjulee pun vaddaa he |

Greet the Holy Saint with your palms pressed together; this is an act of great merit.

ਕਰਿ ਡੰਡਉਤ ਪੁਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar ddanddaut pun vaddaa he |1| rahaau |

Bow down before Him; this is a virtuous action indeed. ||1||Pause||

ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
saakat har ras saad na jaaniaa tin antar haumai kanddaa he |

The wicked shaaktas, the faithless cynics, do not know the taste of the Lord's sublime essence. The thorn of egotism is embedded deep within them.

ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਚਲਹਿ ਚੁਭੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਹਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
jiau jiau chaleh chubhai dukh paaveh jamakaal saheh sir ddanddaa he |2|

The more they walk away, the deeper it sticks into them, and the more they suffer in pain, until finally, the Messenger of Death smashes his club against their heads. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
har jan har har naam samaane dukh janam maran bhav khanddaa he |

The humble servants of the Lord are absorbed in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. The pain of birth and the fear of death are eradicated.

ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਭ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
abinaasee purakh paaeaa paramesar bahu sobh khandd brahamanddaa he |3|

They have obtained the Imperishable Supreme Being, the Transcendent Lord God, and they obtain great honor throughout all the worlds and realms. ||3||

ਹਮ ਗਰੀਬ ਮਸਕੀਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਵਡ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
ham gareeb masakeen prabh tere har raakh raakh vadd vaddaa he |

I am poor and meek, God, but I am Yours! Save me, please save me, O Greatest of the Great!

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥੮॥੨੨॥੬੦॥
jan naanak naam adhaar ttek hai har naame hee sukh manddaa he |4|8|22|60|

Servant Nanak takes the Sustenance and Support of the Naam. In the Name of the Lord, he enjoys celestial peace. ||4||8||22||60||

Gauree Poorbee, Fourth Mehl:

ਇਸੁ ਗੜ ਮਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਹੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਧੀਠਾ ॥
eis garr meh har raam raae hai kichh saad na paavai dheetthaa |

Within this body-fortress is the Lord, the Sovereign Lord King, but the stubborn ones do not find the taste.

ਹਰਿ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਚਖਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੧॥
har deen deaal anugrahu keea har gurasabadee chakh ddeetthaa |1|

When the Lord, Merciful to the meek, showed His Mercy, I found and tasted it, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਲਿਵ ਮੀਠਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam har keeratan gur liv meetthaa |1| rahaau |

Lovingly focused upon the Guru, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise has become sweet to me. ||1||Pause||

ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲਾਗਿ ਬਸੀਠਾ ॥
har agam agochar paarabraham hai mil satigur laag baseetthaa |

The Lord, the Supreme Lord God, is Inaccessible and Unfathomable. Those who are committed to the True Guru, the Divine Intermediary, meet the Lord.

ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਖਾਨੇ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਤਿਨ ਆਗੈ ਆਣਿ ਪਰੀਠਾ ॥੨॥
jin gur bachan sukhaane heearai tin aagai aan pareetthaa |2|

Those whose hearts are pleased with the Guru's Teachings - the Lord's Presence is revealed to them. ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹੀਅਰਾ ਅਤਿ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੀਠਾ ॥
manamukh heearaa at katthor hai tin antar kaar kareetthaa |

The hearts of the self-willed manmukhs are hard and cruel; their inner beings are dark.

ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਦੂਧੁ ਪੀਆਈਐ ਬਿਖੁ ਨਿਕਸੈ ਫੋਲਿ ਫੁਲੀਠਾ ॥੩॥
biseear kau bahu doodh peeaeeai bikh nikasai fol fuleetthaa |3|

Even if the poisonous snake is fed large amounts of milk, it will still yield only poison. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਨਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਘਸਿ ਗਰੁੜੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਲੀਠਾ ॥
har prabh aan milaavahu gur saadhoo ghas garurr sabad mukh leetthaa |

O Lord God, please unite me with the Holy Guru, so that I might joyfully grind and eat the Shabad.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਲਾਲੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਲਗਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰੂਆ ਮੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੯॥੨੩॥੬੧॥
jan naanak gur ke laale gole lag sangat karooaa meetthaa |4|9|23|61|

Servant Nanak is the slave of the Guru; in the Sangat, the Holy Congregation, the bitter becomes sweet. ||4||9||23||61||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਰਥਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਹਮ ਬੇਚਿਆ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਆਗੇ ॥
har har arath sareer ham bechiaa poore gur kai aage |

For the sake of the Lord, Har, Har, I have sold my body to the Perfect Guru.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ਸਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥
satigur daatai naam dirraaeaa mukh masatak bhaag sabhaage |1|

The True Guru, the Giver, has implanted the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me. A very blessed and fortunate destiny is recorded upon my forehead. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam guramat har liv laage |1| rahaau |

Through the Guru's Teachings, I am lovingly centered on the Lord. ||1||Pause||
