Gathering it and collecting it, he fills his bags.

But God takes it away from him, and gives it to another. ||1||

kaach gagareea anbh majhareea |

The mortal is like an unbaked clay pot in water;

garab garab uaahoo meh pareea |1| rahaau |

indulging in pride and egotism, he crumbles down and dissolves. ||1||Pause||

nirbhau hoeio bheaa nihangaa |

Being fearless, he becomes unrestrained.

cheet na aaeio karataa sangaa |

He does not think of the Creator, who is ever with him.

lasakar jorre keea sanbaahaa |

He raises armies, and collects arms.

nikasiaa fook ta hoe geio suaahaa |2|

But when the breath leaves him, he turns to ashes. ||2||

aooche mandar mahal ar raanee |

He has lofty palaces, mansions and queens,

hasat ghorre jorre man bhaanee |

elephants and pairs of horses, delighting the mind;

vadd paravaar poot ar dheea |

he is blessed with a great family of sons and daughters.

mohi pache pach andhaa mooaa |3|

But, engrossed in attachment, the blind fool wastes away to death. ||3||

jineh upaahaa tineh binaahaa |

The One who created him destroys him.

rang rasaa jaise supanaahaa |

Enjoyments and pleasures are like just a dream.

soee mukataa tis raaj maal |

eina siau preet karee ghaneree |

The mortal is in love with this,

jau mileeai tau vadhai vadheree |

but the more he has, the more he longs for more.

gal chamarree jau chhoddai naahee |

It hangs around his neck, and does not leave him.

laag chhutto satigur kee paaee |1|

But falling at the feet of the True Guru, he is saved. ||1||

I have met the Absolute Lord, and congratulations are pouring in. ||1||Pause||

aaisee sundar man kau mohai |

She is so beautiful, she captivates the mind.

baatt ghaatt grihi ban ban johai |

On the road, and the beach, at home, in the forest and in the wilderness, she touches us.

man tan laagai hoe kai meetthee |

She seems so sweet to the mind and body.

guraprasaad mai khottee ddeetthee |2|

But by Guru's Grace, I have seen her to be deceptive. ||2||

agarak us ke vadde tthagaaoo |

Her courtiers are also great deceivers.

chhoddeh naahee baap na maaoo |

They do not spare even their fathers or mothers.

melee apane un le baandhe |

They have enslaved their companions.

gur kirapaa te mai sagale saadhe |3|

By Guru's Grace, I have subjugated them all. ||3||

ab morai man bheaa anand |

Now, my mind is filled with bliss;

bhau chookaa ttootte sabh fand |

my fear is gone, and the noose is cut away.

kahu naanak jaa satigur paaeaa |

Says Nanak, when I met the True Guru,
