ਜੈਸੇ ਪੋਸਤੀ ਸੁਨਤ ਕਹਤ ਪੋਸਤ ਬੁਰੋ ਤਾਂ ਕੇ ਬਸਿ ਭਯੋ ਛਾਡ੍ਯੋ ਚਾਹੈ ਪੈ ਨ ਛੂਟਈ ।
jaise posatee sunat kahat posat buro taan ke bas bhayo chhaaddayo chaahai pai na chhoottee |Just as a poppy husk addict calls this addiction bad, but caught in its web, even if he wants to leave it can't do so.
ਜੈਸੇ ਜੂਆ ਖੇਲ ਬਿਤ ਹਾਰ ਬਿਲਖੈ ਜੁਆਰੀ ਤਊ ਪਰ ਜੁਆਰਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਨ ਟੂਟਈ ।
jaise jooaa khel bit haar bilakhai juaaree taoo par juaaran kee sangat na ttoottee |Just as a gambler loses all his money and wails, even then he cannot leave the company of other gamblers.
ਜੈਸੇ ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰੀ ਜਾਤ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਸਹਕਤ ਪੁਨ ਤਜਤ ਨ ਚੋਰੀ ਜੌ ਲੌ ਸੀਸ ਹੀ ਨ ਫੂਟਈ ।
jaise chor choree jaat hridai sahakat pun tajat na choree jau lau sees hee na foottee |Just as a thief is scared of being caught when he goes out to steal, yet he does not leave stealing till he runs into trouble (is caught, imprisoned or hanged).
ਤੈਸੇ ਸਭ ਕਹਤ ਸੁਨਤ ਮਾਯਾ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਕਾਹੂ ਪੈ ਨ ਜੀਤੀ ਪਰੈ ਮਾਯਾ ਜਗ ਲੂਟਈ ।੫੯੧।
taise sabh kahat sunat maayaa dukhadaaee kaahoo pai na jeetee parai maayaa jag loottee |591|Just as all humans declare mammon (maya) a troublesome necessity, yet it cannot be won over by anyone. On the contrary, it is plundering the whole world. (It is entangling people in its net and taking them away from the holy feet of the Lord.) (591)
