ਜੈਸੇ ਬੈਲ ਤੇਲੀ ਕੋ ਜਾਨਤ ਕਈ ਕੋਸ ਚਲ੍ਯੋ ਨੈਨ ਉਘਰਤ ਵਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ਹੀ ਠਿਕਾਨੋ ਹੈ ।
jaise bail telee ko jaanat kee kos chalayo nain ugharat vaahee tthaau hee tthikaano hai |

Just as a blind folded bullock of an oilman keeps going around the extractor and he thinks he has travelled many miles, but when his blindfold is removed, sees himself standing at the same place.

ਜੈਸੇ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਬਟਤ ਆਂਧਰੋ ਅਚਿੰਤ ਚਿੰਤ ਖਾਤ ਜਾਤ ਬਛੁਰੋ ਟਟੇਰੋ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੋ ਹੈ ।
jaise jevaree battat aandharo achint chint khaat jaat bachhuro ttattero pachhutaano hai |

Just as a blind person keeps twisting a rope without care when at the same time, the calf is eating it. But when he feels for the work done by him so far, repents to know that much of it has been eaten away;

ਜੈਸੇ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲੌ ਧਾਵੈ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾਵੰਤ ਆਵਤ ਨ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਹਿਰਾਨੋ ਹੈ ।
jaise mrig trisanaa lau dhaavai mrig trikhaavant aavat na saant bhram bhramat hiraano hai |

Just as a deer keeps running towards a mirage, but the absence of water does not satiate his thirst and he feels distressed wandering.

ਤੈਸੇ ਸ੍ਵਪਨੰਤਰੁ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਬਿਹਾਯ ਗਈ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਨ ਸਕ੍ਯੋ ਤਹਾਂ ਜਹਾਂ ਮੋਹਿ ਜਾਨੋ ਹੈ ।੫੭੮।
taise svapanantar disantar bihaay gee pahunch na sakayo tahaan jahaan mohi jaano hai |578|

Similarly, wandering in the country and beyond, I have spent my life in a dream. I have not been able to reach where I had to go. (I have failed to re-unite myself with God). (578)
