ਜੈਸੇ ਚੂਨੋ ਖਾਂਡ ਸ੍ਵੇਤ ਏਕਸੇ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦੇਤ ਪਾਈਐ ਤੌ ਸ੍ਵਾਦ ਰਸ ਰਸਨਾ ਕੈ ਚਾਖੀਐ ।
jaise choono khaandd svet ekase dikhaaee det paaeeai tau svaad ras rasanaa kai chaakheeai |Just as both sugar and flour being white look alike, but can only be identified when tasted (one is sweet, the other insipid).
ਜੈਸੇ ਪੀਤ ਬਰਨ ਹੀ ਹੇਮ ਅਰ ਪੀਤਰ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਜਾਨੀਐ ਮਹਤ ਪਾਰਖਦ ਅਗ੍ਰ ਰਾਖੀਐ ।
jaise peet baran hee hem ar peetar hvai jaaneeai mahat paarakhad agr raakheeai |Just as brass and gold bear the same colour, but when both are placed before an examiner, the value .of gold is known.
ਜੈਸੇ ਕਊਆ ਕੋਕਿਲਾ ਹੈ ਦੋਨੋ ਖਗ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਤਨ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਅਸੁਭ ਸੁਭ ਸਬਦ ਸੁ ਭਾਖੀਐ ।
jaise kaooaa kokilaa hai dono khag sayaam tan boojheeai asubh subh sabad su bhaakheeai |Just as both a crow and a cuckoo is black in colour, but they can be distinguished by their voice. (One is sweet to the ears while the other is noisy and irritating).
ਤੈਸੇ ਹੀ ਅਸਾਧ ਸਾਧ ਚਿਹਨ ਕੈ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੋਤ ਕਰਨੀ ਕਰਤੂਤ ਲਗ ਲਛਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਖੀਐ ।੫੯੬।
taise hee asaadh saadh chihan kai samaan hot karanee karatoot lag lachhan kai laakheeai |596|Similarly, outer signs of a real and a fake saint look alike but their actions and characteristics can reveal who is genuine among them. (Only then can one know who is good and who is bad). (596)
