ਜੈਸੇ ਲਾਖ ਕੋਰਿ ਲਿਖਤ ਨ ਕਨ ਭਾਰ ਲਾਗੈ ਜਾਨਤ ਸੁ ਸ੍ਰਮ ਹੋਇ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਗਨ ਰਾਖੀਐ ।
jaise laakh kor likhat na kan bhaar laagai jaanat su sram hoe jaa kai gan raakheeai |Just as writing figures representing millions and billions amount involve no burden at all, but if that much money is counted and placed on someone's head, he alone knows the burden he is carrying.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਹੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਨ ਅਮਰ ਪਦ ਜੌ ਲੌ ਜਿਹ੍ਵਾ ਕੈ ਸੁਰਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨ ਚਾਖੀਐ ।
amrit amrit kahai paaeeai na amar pad jau lau jihvaa kai suras amrit na chaakheeai |Just as repeatedly saying Amrit, Amrit does not bestow one with liberation unless the supreme elixir is tasted.
ਬੰਦੀ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਅਸੀਸ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਕੋਊ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਨ ਬੈਠੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਚਕ੍ਰਵੈ ਨ ਭਾਖੀਐ ।
bandee jan kee asees bhoopat na hoe koaoo singhaasan baitthe jaise chakravai na bhaakheeai |Just as praises showered by a Bhatt (bard) does not make a person a king unless he sits on the throne and become known as a king with vast empire.
ਤੈਸੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਸੁਨੇ ਕਹੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਜੌ ਲੌ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਕੀ ਸੁਜੁਕਤ ਨ ਲਾਖੀਐ ।੫੮੫।
taise likhe sune kahe paaeeai naa guramat jau lau gur sabad kee sujukat na laakheeai |585|Similarly, one cannot obtain the wisdom of True Guru by just hearing or saying unless the skill of practicing devotedly the Gurus' words obtained from the True Guru is known. (585)
