ਜੈਸੇ ਤਾਤ ਮਾਤ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਜਨਮਤ ਸੁਤ ਘਨੇ ਸਕਲ ਨ ਹੋਤ ਸਮਸਰ ਗੁਨ ਗਥ ਜੀ ।

jaise taat maat grih janamat sut ghane sakal na hot samasar gun gath jee |

Just as several sons are born to a parent, but all are not virtuous to the same extent.

ਚਟੀਆ ਅਨੇਕ ਜੈਸੇ ਆਵੈਂ ਚਟਸਾਲ ਬਿਖੈ ਪੜਤ ਨ ਏਕਸੇ ਸਰਬ ਹਰ ਕਥ ਜੀ ।

chatteea anek jaise aavain chattasaal bikhai parrat na ekase sarab har kath jee |

Just as there are several students in a school, but all of them are not proficient in understanding a subject to the same extent.

ਜੈਸੇ ਨਦੀ ਨਾਵ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੈਠਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਪੰਥੀ ਹੋਤ ਨ ਸਮਾਨ ਸਭੈ ਚਲਤ ਹੈਂ ਪਥ ਜੀ ।

jaise nadee naav mil baitthat anek panthee hot na samaan sabhai chalat hain path jee |

Just as several passengers travel in a boat, but all of them have different destinations. Everyone goes his own way 00 leaving the boat.

ਤੈਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨ ਹੈਂ ਅਨੇਕ ਸਿਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਰਨ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਮਰਥ ਜੀ ।੫੮੩।

Similarly, several Sikhs of different aptitude take refuge of the True Guru, but the cause of all causes--the capable True Guru makes them alike by bestowing on them the elixir of Naam. (583)
