ਜੈਸੇ ਏਕ ਸਮੈ ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਸਫਲ ਸਪਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਨ ਏਕ ਸਮੈ ਫੂਲ ਫਲ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਗਿਰ ਜਾਤ ਹੈ ।

jaise ek samai drum safal sapatr pun ek samai fool fal patr gir jaat hai |

Just as a tree is full of fruits and leaves at one time and then at another time, all leaves, fruits etc. fall off.

ਸਰਿਤਾ ਸਲਿਲਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਸਮਾਨ ਬਹੈ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਅਥਾਹ ਅਤ ਪ੍ਰਬਲਿ ਦਿਖਾਤ ਹੈ ।

saritaa salil jaise kabahoon samaan bahai kabahoon athaah at prabal dikhaat hai |

Just as a stream flows calmly at a place but at another place it is rapid and noisy.

ਏਕ ਸਮੈ ਜੈਸੇ ਹੀਰਾ ਹੋਤ ਜੀਰਨਾਂਬਰ ਮੈ ਏਕ ਸਮੈ ਕੰਚਨ ਜੜੇ ਜਗਮਗਾਤ ਹੈ ।

ek samai jaise heeraa hot jeeranaanbar mai ek samai kanchan jarre jagamagaat hai |

Just as a diamond is wrapped in a (silk) rag at one time. but at another time, the same diamond is inlaid in gold and shines with its grandeur.

ਤੈਸੇ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਰਾਜਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੋਗੀਸੁਰ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆਧਾਰੀ ਭਾਰੀ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤ ਜੁਗਾਤ ਹੈ ।੪੯੭।

taise gurasikh raajakumaar jogeesur hai maaeaadhaaree bhaaree jog jugat jugaat hai |497|

Similarly, an obedient Sikh of the Guru is a prince at one time and a supreme ascetic at another time. Even when he is wealthy, he still remains absorbed in the methods of realisation of the Lord. (497)
