Salok, First Mehl:

ਦੁਇ ਦੀਵੇ ਚਉਦਹ ਹਟਨਾਲੇ ॥
due deeve chaudah hattanaale |

The two lamps light the fourteen markets.

ਜੇਤੇ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਤੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥
jete jeea tete vanajaare |

There are just as many traders as there are living beings.

ਖੁਲੑੇ ਹਟ ਹੋਆ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
khulae hatt hoaa vaapaar |

The shops are open, and trading is going on;

ਜੋ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਸੋ ਚਲਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
jo pahuchai so chalanahaar |

whoever comes there, is bound to depart.

ਧਰਮੁ ਦਲਾਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥
dharam dalaal paae neesaan |

The Righteous Judge of Dharma is the broker, who gives his sign of approval.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
naanak naam laahaa paravaan |

O Nanak, those who earn the profit of the Naam are accepted and approved.

ਘਰਿ ਆਏ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ॥
ghar aae vajee vaadhaaee |

And when they return home, they are greeted with cheers;

ਸਚ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥
sach naam kee milee vaddiaaee |1|

they obtain the glorious greatness of the True Name. ||1||
