ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਨਿਤ ਉਠਿ ਗਾਈਐ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ॥
run jhuno sabad anaahad nit utth gaaeeai santan kai |Rise early each morning, and with the Saints, sing the melodious harmony, the unstruck sound current of the Shabad.
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਸਭਿ ਦੋਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਤਨ ਕੈ ॥
kilavikh sabh dokh binaasan har naam japeeai gur mantan kai |All sins and sufferings are erased, chanting the Lord's Name, under Guru's Instructions.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੀਜੈ ਅਮਿਉ ਪੀਜੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਅਰਾਧੀਐ ॥
har naam leejai amiau peejai rain dinas araadheeai |Dwell upon the Lord's Name, and drink in the Nectar; day and night, worship and adore Him.
ਜੋਗ ਦਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਲਗਿ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲਹ ਸਾਧੀਐ ॥
jog daan anek kiriaa lag charan kamalah saadheeai |The merits of Yoga, charity and religious rituals are obtained by grasping His lotus feet.
ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੋਹਨ ਦੂਖ ਸਗਲੇ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
bhaau bhagat deaal mohan dookh sagale paraharai |Loving devotion to the merciful, enticing Lord takes away all pain.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਰੈ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਰਹਰੈ ॥੧॥
binavant naanak tarai saagar dhiaae suaamee naraharai |1|Prays Nanak, cross over the world-ocean, meditating on the Lord, your Lord and Master. ||1||
ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿਮਰਣੁ ਭਗਤ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
sukh saagar gobind simaran bhagat gaaveh gun tere raam |Meditation on the Lord of the Universe is an ocean of peace; Your devotees sing Your Glorious Praises, Lord.
ਅਨਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਪਾਏ ਸੂਖ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
anad mangal gur charanee laage paae sookh ghanere raam |Ecstasy, bliss and great happiness are obtained by grasping hold of the Guru's feet.
ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਦੂਖ ਹਰਿਆ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥
sukh nidhaan miliaa dookh hariaa kripaa kar prabh raakhiaa |Meeting with the treasure of peace, their pains are taken away; granting His Grace, God protects them.
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਲਾਗਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਭਾਖਿਆ ॥
har charan laagaa bhram bhau bhaagaa har naam rasanaa bhaakhiaa |Those who grasp the Lord's feet - their fears and doubts run away, and they chant the Name of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਆਇਆ ॥
har ek chitavai prabh ek gaavai har ek drisattee aaeaa |He thinks of the One Lord, and he sings of the One God; he gazes upon the One Lord alone.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
binavant naanak prabh karee kirapaa pooraa satigur paaeaa |2|Prays Nanak, God has granted His Grace, and I have found the Perfect True Guru. ||2||
ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਰਾਮ ॥
mil raheeai prabh saadh janaa mil har keeratan suneeai raam |Meet with the holy, humble servants of God; meeting with the Lord, listen to the Kirtan of His Praises.
ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾਮੋਦਰ ਮਾਧੋ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਨੀਐ ਰਾਮ ॥
deaal prabhoo daamodar maadho ant na paaeeai guneeai raam |God is the Merciful Master, the Lord of wealth; there is no end to His Virtues.
ਦਇਆਲ ਦੁਖ ਹਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਦੋਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣੋ ॥
deaal dukh har saran daataa sagal dokh nivaarano |The Merciful Lord is the Dispeller of pain, the Giver of Sanctuary, the Eradicator of all evil.
ਮੋਹ ਸੋਗ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਖੜੇ ਜਪਤ ਨਾਮ ਉਧਾਰਣੋ ॥
moh sog vikaar bikharre japat naam udhaarano |Emotional attachment, sorrow, corruption and pain - chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one is saved from these.
ਸਭਿ ਜੀਅ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਭ ਰੇਣ ਥੀਵਾ ॥
sabh jeea tere prabhoo mere kar kirapaa sabh ren theevaa |All beings are Yours, O my God; bless me with Your Mercy, that I may become the dust under the feet of all men.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਇਆ ਕੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਾ ॥੩॥
binavant naanak prabh meaa keejai naam teraa jap jeevaa |3|Prays Nanak, O God, be kind to me, that I may chant Your Name, and live. ||3||
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਅਪਣੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
raakh lee prabh bhagat janaa apanee charanee laae raam |God saves His humble devotees, attaching them to His feet.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਅਪਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਿਮਰਹ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
aatth pahar apanaa prabh simarah eko naam dhiaae raam |Twenty-four hours a day, they meditate in remembrance on their God; they meditae on the One Name.
ਧਿਆਇ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤਰੇ ਭਵਜਲ ਰਹੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
dhiaae so prabh tare bhavajal rahe aavan jaanaa |Meditating on that God, they cross over the terrifying world-ocean, and their comings and goings cease.
ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲਗਾ ਮੀਠਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
sadaa sukh kaliaan keeratan prabh lagaa meetthaa bhaanaa |They enjoy eternal peace and pleasure, singing the Kirtan of God's Praises; His Will seems so sweet to them.
ਸਭ ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਰਿਆ ॥
sabh ichh punee aas pooree mile satigur pooriaa |All my desires are fulfilled, meeting with the Perfect True Guru.
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸੂਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥
binavant naanak prabh aap mele fir naahee dookh visooriaa |4|3|Prays Nanak, God has blended me with Himself; I shall never suffer pain or sorrow again. ||4||3||
Raag Raamkalee
The emotions in Ramkali are like those of a wise teacher disciplining their student. The student is aware of the pain of learning, but is still conscious of the fact that ultimately it is for the best. In this way Ramkali conveys the change from all that we are familiar with, to something we are certain will be better.
