jaa kee leelaa kee mit naeh |

There is no limit to His play.

sagal dev haare avagaeh |

All the demigods have grown weary of searching for it.

pitaa kaa janam ki jaanai poot |

What does the son know of his father's birth?

sagal paroee apunai soot |

All are strung upon His string.

sumat giaan dhiaan jin dee |

He bestows good sense, spiritual wisdom and meditation,

jan daas naam dhiaaveh see |

On His humble servants and slaves who meditate on the Naam.

tihu gun meh jaa kau bharamaae |

He leads some astray in the three qualities;

janam marai fir aavai jaae |

they are born and die, coming and going over and over again.

aooch neech tis ke asathaan |

The high and the low are His places.

jaisaa janaavai taisaa naanak jaan |3|

As He inspires us to know Him, O Nanak, so is He known. ||3||

Raag Gauree

Gauri creates a mood where the listener is encouraged to strive harder in order to achieve an objective. However, the encouragement given by the Raag does not allow the ego to increase. This therefore creates the atmosphere where the listener is encouraged, but still prevented from becoming arrogant and self-important.
