aasaa mahalaa 1 |Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹੁਜਤਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
guramat saachee hujat door |Receiving the True Teachings from the Guru, arguments depart.
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਲਾਗੈ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
bahut siaanap laagai dhoor |But through excessive cleverness, one is only plastered with dirt.
ਲਾਗੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਸਚ ਨਾਇ ॥
laagee mail mittai sach naae |The filth of attachment is removed by the True Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
guraparasaad rahai liv laae |1|By Guru's Grace, one remains lovingly attached to the Lord. ||1||
ਹੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
hai hajoor haajar aradaas |He is the Presence Ever-present; offer your prayers to Him.
ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dukh sukh saach karate prabh paas |1| rahaau |Pain and pleasure are in the Hands of God, the True Creator. ||1||Pause||
ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
koorr kamaavai aavai jaavai |One who practices falsehood comes and goes.
ਕਹਣਿ ਕਥਨਿ ਵਾਰਾ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥
kahan kathan vaaraa nahee aavai |By speaking and talking, His limits cannot be found.
ਕਿਆ ਦੇਖਾ ਸੂਝ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
kiaa dekhaa soojh boojh na paavai |Whatever one sees, is not understood.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
bin naavai man tripat na aavai |2|Without the Name, satisfaction does not enter into the mind. ||2||
ਜੋ ਜਨਮੇ ਸੇ ਰੋਗਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥
jo janame se rog viaape |Whoever is born is afflicted by disease,
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥
haumai maaeaa dookh santaape |tortured by the pain of egotism and Maya.
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਬਾਚੇ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੇ ॥
se jan baache jo prabh raakhe |They alone are saved, who are protected by God.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੇ ॥੩॥
satigur sev amrit ras chaakhe |3|Serving the True Guru, they drink in the Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar. ||3||
ਚਲਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਾਖੈ ॥
chaltau man raakhai amrit chaakhai |The unstable mind is restrained by tasting this Nectar.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਬਦੁ ਭਾਖੈ ॥
satigur sev amrit sabad bhaakhai |Serving the True Guru, one comes to cherish the Ambrosial Nectar of the Shabad.
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
saachai sabad mukat gat paae |Through the True Word of the Shabad, the state of liberation is obtained.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੪॥੧੩॥
naanak vichahu aap gavaae |4|13|O Nanak, self-conceit is eradicated from within. ||4||13||
Raag Aasaa
Aasaa has strong emotions of inspiration and courage. This Raag gives the listener the determination and ambition to put aside any excuses and to proceed with the necessary action to achieve the aim. It generates feelings of passion and zeal to succeed and the energy generated from these feelings enables the listener to find the strength from within to achieve success, even when the achievement seems difficult. The determined mood of this Raag ensures that failure is not an option and motivates the listener to be inspired.
