ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਦੇਸੁ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ਸਦਵਾਇਆ ।
aad purakh aades hai satigur sach naau sadavaaeaa |Salutation to that primal Lord who is known by the true name of Satigura.
ਚਾਰਿ ਵਰਨ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ।
chaar varan gurasikh kar guramukh sachaa panth chalaaeaa |Transforming all the four varnas into the Sikhs of the Guru, that true Guru (Gum Nanak Dev) has initiated a true way for the Gurmukhs.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਂਵਦੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਵਾਇਆ ।
saadhasangat mil gaanvade satigur sabad anaahad vaaeaa |The true Guru has vibrated such an unstruck word which is sung in the holy congregation by one and all.
ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸੈਸਾਰੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ।
gur saakhee upades kar aap tarai saisaar taraaeaa |The Gurmukhs recite the teachings of the Guru; they go across and make the world go across (the world ocean).
ਪਾਨ ਸੁਪਾਰੀ ਕਥੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਚੂਨੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਸੁਰੰਗ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ।
paan supaaree kath mil choone rang surang charrhaaeaa |As in betel leaf mixing of catechu, lime and betel nut makes a nice colour, similarly, gurmukh way of life consisting of all the four varnas is beautiful.
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ।
giaan dhiaan simaran jugat guramat mil gur pooraa paaeaa |He, who having met the perfect Gum has attained Gurmati; the wisdom of the Guru, has in fact identified the teachnique of knowledge, concentration and meditation.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਚਖੰਡੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ।੧।
saadhasangat sachakhandd vasaaeaa |1|The true Guru has established the abode of truth in the form of holy congregation.

ਪਰ ਤਨ ਪਰ ਧਨ ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦ ਮੇਟਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ।
par tan par dhan par nind mett naam daan isanaan dirraaeaa |Holding (me) back from other's body, wealth and slander, the true Guru, has made me resolute for the practice of meditation on Lord's name, ablution and charity.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਇ ਕੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਵਰਜਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ।
guramat man samajhaae kai baahar jaandaa varaj rahaaeaa |People also making their minds understand through the teaching of the Gum have restrained it from going astray.
ਮਨਿ ਜਿਤੈ ਜਗੁ ਜਿਣਿ ਲਇਆ ਅਸਟ ਧਾਤੁ ਇਕ ਧਾਤੁ ਕਰਾਇਆ ।
man jitai jag jin leaa asatt dhaat ik dhaat karaaeaa |As the eight metals touching the philosopher's stone become gold, similarly, the gurmukhs, having conquered their mind have conquered the whole world.
ਪਾਰਸ ਹੋਏ ਪਾਰਸਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਅਵੇਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ।
paaras hoe paarasahu gur upades aves dikhaaeaa |Such is the effect of the Guru's teaching that the Sikh acquires the same qualifies as if a stone by touching a philosopher's stone has itself become another philosopher's stone.
ਜੋਗ ਭੋਗ ਜਿਣਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੈ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ।
jog bhog jin jugat kar bhaae bhagat bhai aap gavaaeaa |Systematically, having won yoga as well as pleasures and getting immersed in devotion they have lost their fears.
ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਹੋਇ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਆਇਆ ।
aap geaa aap varatiaa bhagat vachhal hoe vasagat aaeaa |When the ego vanished, God was not only realized as diffused all around, but also because of love for His devotees
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ।੨।

ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧੇ ।
sabad surat mil saadhasang guramukh dukh sukh sam kar saadhe |In the holy congregation, getting attuned to the Word, the gurmukh treats pains and joys in the same vein.
ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਰਹਰੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਆਰਾਧੇ ।
haumai duramat paraharee guramat satigur purakh aaraadhe |He renounces egotist ill thoughts and adopting the teachings of the true Guru adores the Timeless Lord.
ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਨੋ ਲੰਘਿ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਫਲੁ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧੇ ।
siv sakatee no langh kai guramukh sukh fal sahaj samaadhe |Going beyond the phenomena of the Siva-Sakti (maya), the Gurnzukh calmly merges in the fruits of delight.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਏਕੁ ਜਾਣਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਮਿਟਾਇ ਉਪਾਧੇ ।
gur paramesar ek jaan doojaa bhaau mittaae upaadhe |Considering Guru and God as one, he decimates the ills of the sense of duality.
ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣਹੁ ਬਾਹਰੇ ਅਜਰਾਵਰਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧੇ ।
jaman maranahu baahare ajaraavar mil agam agaadhe |Gurmukhs go out of the cycle of transmigration and meeting that unapproachable and unfathomable Lord go away from the impacts of time (oldage).
ਆਸ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਉਦਾਸ ਘਰਿ ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਵਿਹੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਖਾਧੇ ।
aas na traas udaas ghar harakh sog vihu amrit khaadhe |Hopes and fears do not torture them. They reside in home while being detached and to them nectar or poison, happiness and sorrows are all the same.
ਮਹਾ ਅਸਾਧ ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਸਾਧੇ ।੩।
mahaa asaadh saadhasang saadhe |3|In the holy congregation, the frightening chronic ailments are also cured.

ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੋ ਰਜ ਗੁਣੁ ਤਮ ਗੁਣੁ ਸਤ ਗੁਣੁ ਜਿਤਾ ।
paun paanee baisantaro raj gun tam gun sat gun jitaa |Air, water, fire and the three qualities – tranquillity, activity and inertness have been conquered by the Sikh.
ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕਰਮ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਕਰਿ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਵਿਗੋਇ ਦੁਚਿਤਾ ।
man bach karam sankalap kar ik man hoe vigoe duchitaa |With the concentration of mind, speech, action and meditating upon the One, he has lost the sense of duality.
ਲੋਕ ਵੇਦ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਲਿਵ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬਹੁ ਭਿਤਾ ।
lok ved gur giaan liv andar ik baahar bahu bhitaa |Absorption in the knowledge of the Guru is his conduct in the world. In his innerself he is One (with the Lord) while he performs diverse duties in the world.
ਮਾਤ ਲੋਕ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਜਿਣਿ ਸੁਰਗ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਥਿਤਾ ।
maat lok paataal jin surag lok vich hoe athitaa |Conquering the earth and the nether world he establishes himself in heavens.
ਮਿਠਾ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਨਿਵਿ ਚਲਣੁ ਹਥਹੁ ਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵਿਤਾ ।
mitthaa bolan niv chalan hathahu de kar patit pavitaa |By speaking sweetly, behaving humbly and bestowing charities with one's own hands, even the fallen ones have become pure.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਅਡੋਲੁ ਅਮੋਲੁ ਅਮਿਤਾ ।
guramukh sukh fal paaeaa atul addol amol amitaa |Thus, the gurmukh attains incomparable and invalauable fruits of delight.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਪੀੜਿ ਨਪਿਤਾ ।੪।
saadhasangat mil peerr napitaa |4|Associating with the holy congregation he squeezes out the ego (from the mind).

ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹਥ ਜੋੜਿ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਰਹਨਿ ਖੜੋਤੇ ।
chaar padaarath hath jorr hukamee bande rahan kharrote |The four ideals (dharma, arth, ktim, moks) stand w'th folded hands around the obedient servant (of the Lord).
ਚਾਰੇ ਚਕ ਨਿਵਾਇਆ ਪੈਰੀ ਪੈ ਇਕ ਸੂਤਿ ਪਰੋਤੇ ।
chaare chak nivaaeaa pairee pai ik soot parote |This servant has made the four directions bow to him by bowing to One who has strung one and all into one thread.
ਵੇਦ ਨ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਭੇਦੁ ਕਿਹੁ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਸ੍ਰੋਤੇ ।
ved na paaein bhed kihu parr parr panddit sun sun srote |The Vedas, the reciter pandits of the Vedas and their audience cannot understand His mystery.
ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗਿ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਾਗਦੀ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਗਮਗ ਜੋਤੇ ।
chahu jug andar jaagadee ot pot mil jagamag jote |His ever radiant flame glows in all the four yugso ages.
ਚਾਰਿ ਵਰਨ ਇਕ ਵਰਨ ਹੋਇ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਵੜੀਅਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੋਤੇ ।
chaar varan ik varan hoe gurasikh varreean guramukh gote |The Sikhs of all the four vamas became one varna and they have entered the (larger) clan of Gurmukhs.
ਧਰਮਸਾਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਬੀਜਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰਪੁਰਬ ਸੁ ਵਣਜ ਸਓਤੇ ।
dharamasaal vich beejade kar gurapurab su vanaj sote |They at the abodes of dharma (Gurdvaras) celebrate anniversaries of the Gurus and thus sow the seeds of virtuous actions.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਦਾਦੇ ਪੋਤੇ ।੫।
saadhasangat mil daade pote |5|In the holy congregation the grandson and the grandfather (i.e. young and old) are equal to each other.

ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਸਾਧਿ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਜੋਹ ਮਿਟਾਈ ।
kaam krodh ahankaar saadh lobh moh dee joh mittaaee |Sikhs in sadh sangat (holy company) controlling the kam (lust) krodh (anger), ahatilair ego), decimate their greed and infatuation.
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਦਇਆ ਧਰਮੁ ਅਰਥੁ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸੁਗਰਥੁ ਸਮਾਈ ।
sat santokh deaa dharam arath samarath sugarath samaaee |In the holy congregation, truth contentment, compassion, dharma, wealth, power all are subsumed.
ਪੰਜੇ ਤਤ ਉਲੰਘਿਆ ਪੰਜਿ ਸਬਦ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ।
panje tat ulanghiaa panj sabad vajee vaadhaaee |Crossing the five elements, the felicitation of the five words (instruments) are. played there.
ਪੰਜੇ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਪੰਚਾਇਣੁ ਹੁਇ ਦੇਸ ਦੁਹਾਈ ।
panje mudraa vas kar panchaaein hue des duhaaee |Having controlled five yogic postures, the respectable member of the congregation become famous all around.
ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਹੈ ਪੰਜ ਮਿਲਿ ਲੇਖ ਅਲੇਖ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ।
paramesar hai panj mil lekh alekh na keemat paaee |Where the five persons sit together, Lord God, is there; this mystery of indescribable Lord cannot be known.
ਪੰਜ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਰਪੰਚ ਤਜਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ।
panj mile parapanch taj anahad sabad sabad liv laaee |But only those five meet (to sit together) who repudiating hypocrisy have merged their consciousness in the unstruck melody of the Word.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਈ ।੬।
saadhasangat sohan gur bhaaee |6|Such fellow-disciples adome the holy congregation.
ਪਉੜੀ ੭

ਛਿਅ ਦਰਸਨ ਤਰਸਨਿ ਘਣੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ।
chhia darasan tarasan ghane guramukh satigur darasan paaeaa |Followers of six (Indian. philosophies) crave intensely but only gurmukh gets the glimpse of the Lord.
ਛਿਅ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਮਝਾਵਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ।
chhia saasatr samajhaavanee guramukh gur upades dirraaeaa |The six Shastras make one understand in a round about manner but gurmukhs make the teachings of the Guru firmly lodged in the heart.
ਰਾਗ ਨਾਦ ਵਿਸਮਾਦ ਵਿਚਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ।
raag naad visamaad vich guramat satigur sabad sunaaeaa |All the musical measures and melodies are wonder-struck to feel that
ਛਿਅ ਰੁਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਇਕੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ ।
chhia rutee kar varatamaan sooraj ik chalat varataaeaa |The true Guru is such as the one sun remains stabilized in all the six seasons.
ਛਿਅ ਰਸ ਸਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਇਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਫਲੁ ਪਿਰਮੁ ਚਖਾਇਆ ।
chhia ras saau na paaeinee guramukh sukh fal piram chakhaaeaa |Such a pleasure-fruit has been attained by Gurmukhs, the taste of which could not be known by six pleasures.
ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਚਿਰੁ ਜੀਵਣੇ ਚਕ੍ਰਵਰਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਮੋਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ।
jatee satee chir jeevane chakravarat hoe mohe maaeaa |Anchorites, followers of truth, long lived ones and universally acclaimed ones are all engrossed in delusions.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ।੭।
saadhasangat mil sahaj samaaeaa |7|Only joining the holy congregation, one could be absorbed in one's innate nature.

ਸਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸਮਾਇ ਲੈ ਭਵਜਲ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ।
sat samund samaae lai bhavajal andar rahe niraalaa |Gurmukhs moving in the holy congregation and having controlled the seven seas remain detached in this world ocean.
ਸਤੇ ਦੀਪ ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਸਬਦ ਉਜਾਲਾ ।
sate deep anher hai guramukh deepak sabad ujaalaa |All the seven continents are in darkness; gurmukh enlightener them by lamp of Word.
ਸਤੇ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਸੋਧੀਆ ਸਹਜ ਪੁਰੀ ਸਚੀ ਧਰਮਸਾਲਾ ।
sate pureea sodheea sahaj puree sachee dharamasaalaa |The gurmukh has reformed all the seven purls (abodes of gods), and has found that only the state of equipoise is the real abode of truth.
ਸਤੇ ਰੋਹਣਿ ਸਤ ਵਾਰ ਸਾਧੇ ਫੜਿ ਫੜਿ ਮਥੇ ਵਾਲਾ ।
sate rohan sat vaar saadhe farr farr mathe vaalaa |All the major nakstrs such as Sva-ti etc, and the seven days, he has controlled by holding them from their heads i.e. he has gone beyond their deceptions.
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਸਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੀਹ ਇਕੀਹ ਉਲੰਘਿ ਸੁਖਾਲਾ ।
trai sate brahamandd kar veeh ikeeh ulangh sukhaalaa |Twenty-one cities and their ostentations he has crossed and he lives happily (in his self).
ਸਤੇ ਸੁਰ ਭਰਪੂਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਸਤੀ ਧਾਰੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਿਆਲਾ ।
sate sur bharapoor kar satee dhaaree paar piaalaa |He has known the comprehensiveness of the seven melodies (of music) and he has crossed the seven streams of the mountains.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਸਮਾਲਾ ।੮।
saadhasangat gur sabad samaalaa |8|This could be possible because he has sustained and accomplished the Word of the Guru in the holy congregation.
ਪਉੜੀ ੯
paurree 9
ਅਠ ਖੰਡਿ ਪਾਖੰਡ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਧਿਆਇਆ ।
atth khandd paakhandd mat guramat ik man ik dhiaaeaa |The person conducting in accordance with the wisdom of the Guru, goes beyond the hypocrisies of eight division (of four varnas and four ashramas) and adores the Lord with single minded devotion.
ਅਸਟ ਧਾਤੁ ਪਾਰਸ ਮਿਲੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗਾਇਆ ।
asatt dhaat paaras milee guramukh kanchan jot jagaaeaa |Eight metals in the form of four vamas and four religions having met the philosopher's stone in the form of Guru have convereted themselves into gold, the gurmukh, the enlightened one.
ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕਾਂ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਆਦੇਸੁ ਕਰਾਇਆ ।
ridh sidh sidh saadhikaan aad purakh aades karaaeaa |The siddhs and other miraculous practitioners have saluted to that primal Lord alone.
ਅਠੈ ਪਹਰ ਅਰਾਧੀਐ ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ।
atthai pahar araadheeai sabad surat liv alakh lakhaaeaa |That Lord ought to be adored all the eight watches of time; by merger of the consciousness in the Word, the imperceptible is perceived.
ਅਸਟ ਕੁਲੀ ਵਿਹੁ ਉਤਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਤਿ ਨ ਮੋਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ।
asatt kulee vihu utaree satigur mat na mohe maaeaa |By adopting the advice of the true Gum, the poison (stigma) of the eight generations is wiped out and now the intellect does not get deluded due to maya.
ਮਨੁ ਅਸਾਧੁ ਨ ਸਾਧੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਫਲੁ ਸਾਧਿ ਸਧਾਇਆ ।
man asaadh na saadheeai guramukh sukh fal saadh sadhaaeaa |The gurmukhs by their loving devotion have refined the incorrigible mind.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਨ ਵਸਿ ਆਇਆ ।੯।
saadhasangat mil man vas aaeaa |9|The mind is controlled only by meeting the holy congregation.
ਪਉੜੀ ੧੦

ਨਉ ਪਰਕਾਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧੈ ਨਵੈ ਦੁਆਰ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ।
nau parakaaree bhagat kar saadhai navai duaar guramatee |People adopt ninefold devotion but the gurmukh while adopting the wisdom of Guru accomplishes the nine doors.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਿਰਮੁ ਚਖਾਇਆ ਗਾਵੈ ਜੀਭ ਰਸਾਇਣਿ ਰਤੀ ।
guramukh piram chakhaaeaa gaavai jeebh rasaaein ratee |Tasting the joy of love, the Gurmukh with full attachment, recites the praises of the Lord.
ਨਵੀ ਖੰਡੀ ਜਾਣਾਇਆ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗ ਜਿਣਿ ਸਤੀ ਅਸਤੀ ।
navee khanddee jaanaaeaa raaj jog jin satee asatee |Through Rajyoga, the gurmukh has conquered both the truth and the falsehood and thus he is known all over the nine regions of the earth.

nau kar nau ghar saadhiaa varatamaan parlau utapatee |Becoming humble he has disciplined the nine doors and besides he has diffused himself in creation and dissolution.
ਨਵ ਨਿਧੀ ਪਿਛ ਲਗਣੀ ਨਾਥ ਅਨਾਥ ਸਨਾਥ ਜੁਗਤੀ ।
nav nidhee pichh laganee naath anaath sanaath jugatee |The nine treasures follow him earnestly and the gurmukh unfolds to the nine naths, the technique of getting liberated.
ਨਉ ਉਖਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਉਖਲੀ ਮਿਠੀ ਕਉੜੀ ਠੰਢੀ ਤਤੀ ।
nau ukhal vich ukhalee mitthee kaurree tthandtee tatee |Among the nine sockets (in the humanbody), the tongue which was bitter, sweet, hot and cool, now

dekh paraaeean changeean maavaan bhainaan dheean jaanai |The Sikh ought to treat beautiful women of others as his mothers, sisters, and daughters.
ਉਸੁ ਸੂਅਰੁ ਉਸੁ ਗਾਇ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਧਨ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਣੈ ।
aus sooar us gaae hai par dhan hindoo musalamaanai |Others' wealth for him is as beef for Hindu and pork for a Muslim.
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮੋਹੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਨ ਧੋਹਿ ਧਿਙਾਣੈ ।
putr kalatr kuttanb dekh mohe mohi na dhohi dhingaanai |Out of infatuation for his son, wife or family, he should not betray and deceive anyone.
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੰਨਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਪਹੁ ਬੁਰਾ ਨ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ।
ausatat nindaa kan sun aapahu buraa na aakh vakhaanai |While listening to the praises and slander of others, he should not talk ill of anybody.
ਵਡ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ਨ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਿ ਕਰਿ ਅਹੰਮੇਉ ਨ ਕਿਸੈ ਰਾਣੈ ।
vadd parataap na aap gan kar ahameo na kisai raanai |Neither he should count himself as great and glorious nor should he out of his ego, snub anybody.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਫਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਰਸ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਣੈ ।

ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨੀਂਦ ਉਘੜੀ ਜਾਗਦਿਆਂ ਸੁਖ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ।
sabad surat neend ugharree jaagadiaan sukh rain vihaanee |Due to the merger of his consciousness in the Word, he gets no eep and by getting awake, he spends his night delightfully.
ਸਾਹੇ ਬਧੇ ਸੋਹਦੇ ਮੈਲਾਪੜ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਪਰਾਣੀ ।
saahe badhe sohade mailaaparr paravaan paraanee |As for a few ays before marriage, the bride and the bridegroom look beautiful even in gs, the gurmukhs also remain adorned.
ਚਲਣੁ ਜਾਣਿ ਸੁਜਾਣ ਹੋਇ ਜਗ ਮਿਹਮਾਨ ਆਏ ਮਿਹਮਾਣੀ ।
chalan jaan sujaan hoe jag mihamaan aae mihamaanee |Since they understand the mystery f going from the world, they live like guests in the world (who must sooner r later go).
ਸਚੁ ਵਣਜਿ ਖੇਪ ਲੈ ਚਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਡੀ ਰਾਹੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੀ ।
sach vanaj khep lai chale guramukh gaaddee raahu neesaanee |Being familiar with the highway of the wisdom of the Guru, Gurmukhs move on it with full load of the truthful merchandise.
ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੀ ।
halat palat mukh ujale gur sikh gurasikhaan man bhaanee |The Sikhs ove the teachings of the Guru and their faces remain bright in this and in the world hereafter.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ।੧੨।

ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਭਰਮ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ।
giaan matee ghatt chaananaa bharam agiaan andher mittaavai |With the light of knowledge in his mind he should dispel darkness of ignorance and delusions.
ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਢਹਿ ਪਵੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਣੁ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਪਾਵੈ ।
hoe nimaanaa dteh pavai daragah maan nimaanaa paavai |He should fall on the feet (of Lord) in humility because only the humble are honoured in the court of the Lord.
ਖਸਮੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਾਂਵਦਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਦਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਵੈ ।
khasamai soee bhaanvadaa khasamai daa jis bhaanaa bhaavai |Master also loves that man who loves the will of the master.
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੈ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਨਾਵੈ ।
bhaanaa manai maneeai aapanaa bhaanaa aap manaavai |One who accepts the will of God is accepted by one understands that he is a guest in this world;
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਪਰਾਹੁਣਾ ਦਾਵਾ ਛਡਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਾ ਦਾਵੈ ।
duneea vich paraahunaa daavaa chhadd rahai laa daavai |That is why foregoing all claims, he lives without making any claim for himself.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਕਮਾਵੈ ।੧੩।
saadhasangat mil hukam kamaavai |13|Being in the holy congregation, he acts in consonance with the commands of the Lord.

ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਇਕੁ ਜਾਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ।
gur paramesar ik jaan guramukh doojaa bhaau mittaaeaa |Accepting Guru and God as one, the gurmukh has erased the sense of duality.
ਹਉਮੈ ਪਾਲਿ ਢਹਾਇ ਕੈ ਤਾਲ ਨਦੀ ਦਾ ਨੀਰੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ।
haumai paal dtahaae kai taal nadee daa neer milaaeaa |Knocking down the wall of ego, the gurmukh has united the pond (self) with the river (Brahm).
ਨਦੀ ਕਿਨਾਰੈ ਦੁਹ ਵਲੀ ਇਕ ਦੂ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ।
nadee kinaarai duh valee ik doo paaraavaar na paaeaa |Undoubtedly the river remains contained within its two banks neither one knowing the other.
ਰੁਖਹੁ ਫਲੁ ਤੈ ਫਲਹੁ ਰੁਖੁ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਉ ਫਲੁ ਰੁਖੁ ਸਦਾਇਆ ।
rukhahu fal tai falahu rukh ik naau fal rukh sadaaeaa |From tree the fruit and from fruit the e are born and in fact both are one though they have different names.
ਛਿਅ ਰੁਤੀ ਇਕੁ ਸੁਝ ਹੈ ਸੁਝੈ ਸੁਝੁ ਨ ਹੋਰੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ।
chhia rutee ik sujh hai sujhai sujh na hor dikhaaeaa |The sun is one in all the six seasons; knowing this, one does not think of different suns.
ਰਾਤੀਂ ਤਾਰੇ ਚਮਕਦੇ ਦਿਹ ਚੜਿਐ ਕਿਨਿ ਆਖੁ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ।
raateen taare chamakade dih charriaai kin aakh lukaaeaa |At night the stars twinkle but with the break of day under whose command they hide themselves? (they automatically go and likewise with light of knowledge the darkness of ignorance is dispelled of its own).
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ।੧੪।

gurasikh jogee jaagade maaeaa andar karan udaasee |Yogi Sikhs of the Guru are ever awake and remain detached amidst maya.
ਕੰਨੀਂ ਮੁੰਦਰਾਂ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਧੂੜਿ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਸੁ ਲਾਸੀ ।
kaneen mundaraan mantr gur santaan dhoorr bibhoot su laasee |Gurumantr for them is the earring and the dust of the feet of saints is ashes for them.
ਖਿੰਥਾ ਖਿਮਾ ਹੰਢਾਵਣੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਭਾਉ ਭੁਗਤਿ ਬਿਲਾਸੀ ।
khinthaa khimaa handtaavanee prem patr bhaau bhugat bilaasee |Forgiveness is their patched blanket, love their begging bowl and devotion is their trumpet (sitig),
ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਿੰਙੀ ਵਜੈ ਡੰਡਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਸੀ ।
sabad surat singee vajai ddanddaa giaan dhiaan gur daasee |Knowledge is their staff, and obedience to the Guru is their meditation.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੁਫੈ ਬਹਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ।
saadhasangat gur gufai beh sahaj samaadh agaadh nivaasee |Sitting in the cave in the form of holy congregation, they reside in unfathomable equipoise.
ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗ ਅਰੋਗ ਹੋਇ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ਵਿਜੋਗ ਖਲਾਸੀ ।
haumai rog arog hoe kar sanjog vijog khalaasee |Getting cured of the ailment of ego, they are liberated from the bonds of comings and goings (birth and death).
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਬਾਸੀ ।੧੫।

ਮਹਾਦੇਵ ਅਵਧੂਤ ਲਖ ਜੋਗ ਧਿਆਨ ਉਣੀਦੈ ਅਕੇ ।
mahaadev avadhoot lakh jog dhiaan uneedai ake |Mahadev and millions of recluses are also fed up with sleeplessness of yogic practice.
ਲਖ ਬਿਸਨ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਲੈ ਗਿਆਨ ਖੜਗੁ ਫੜਿ ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਸਕੇ ।
lakh bisan avataar lai giaan kharrag farr pahuch na sake |Becoming millions of incarnations, Visnu even catching hold of the double edged sword of knowledge could not reach Him.
ਲਖ ਲੋਮਸੁ ਚਿਰ ਜੀਵਣੇ ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਧੀਰਕ ਧਕੇ ।
lakh lomas chir jeevane aad ant vich dheerak dhake |Millions of long lived rishi such as Lomas despite their fortitude are, ultimately jostled about.
ਤਿਨਿ ਲੋਅ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਲਖ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਖੰਡ ਕਰ ਢਕੇ ।
tin loa jug chaar kar lakh brahamandd khandd kar dtake |That Lord has covered with His 'self, all the three worlds, four ages, millions of universes and their divisions, i.e.
ਲਖ ਪਰਲਉ ਉਤਪਤਿ ਲਖ ਹਰਹਟ ਮਾਲਾ ਅਖਿ ਫਰਕੇ ।
lakh parlau utapat lakh harahatt maalaa akh farake |He is bigger than these all. Millions of creations and dissolutions go on moving like the chain of pots on persian wheel and all this is enacted within the time of the fall of an eyelid.

ਜੋਗ ਧਿਆਨ ਹੈਰਾਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਵੇਦ ਗਿਆਨ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨ ਹੋਈ ।
jog dhiaan hairaan hoe ved giaan paravaah na hoee |Yogis became awestruck in meditation for He does not care for knowledge of the Vedas.
ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵ ਸਰੇਵਦੇ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਮਹੀਅਲ ਭਵਦੇ ਲੋਈ ।
devee dev sarevade jal thal maheeal bhavade loee |Adoring the gods and goddesses, people go on roaming (in different lives) in water on earth and in the sky.
ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਘਣੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਦੁਖ ਰੋਈ ।
hom jag jap tap ghane kar kar karam dharam dukh roee |They perform many burnt offerings, oblations and ascetic disciplines and still weep while performing the so-called ritualistic activities (because their sufferings are not removed).
ਵਸਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਧਾਂਵਦਾ ਅਠੁ ਖੰਡਿ ਪਾਖੰਡ ਵਿਗੋਈ ।
vas na aavai dhaanvadaa atth khandd paakhandd vigoee |Ever-running mind does not come under control and the mind has spoiled all the eight divisions of life (four varnas and four ashrams).
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਜਿਣਿ ਜਗੁ ਜਿਣੈ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਸਭ ਕੋਈ ।
guramukh man jin jag jinai aap gavaae aape sabh koee |The gurmukhs after conquering the mind have won the whole world and losing their ego, they have seen themselves in one and all.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਣ ਹਾਰੁ ਪਰੋਈ ।੧੭।

ਅਬਿਗਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਅਬਿਗਤਿ ਘਣੀ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਸੇਖ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਵਾਰਾ ।
abigat gat abigat ghanee simaran sekh na aavai vaaraa |The nature of that unmanifest Lord is also deeply unmanifest, and in spite of continuous recitations by Sesanffg His mystery could not be understood.
ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਕਿਉ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ।
akath kathaa kiau jaaneeai koe na aakh sunaavanahaaraa |How can His ineffable story be known because none is there to tell it.
ਅਚਰਜੁ ਨੋ ਆਚਰਜੁ ਹੋਇ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੈ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਸੁਮਾਰਾ ।
acharaj no aacharaj hoe visamaadai visamaad sumaaraa |Thinking about Him, the wonder also feels itself full of wonder and the awe also becomes awe struck.
ਚਾਰਿ ਵਰਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ ਹੋਇ ਘਰ ਬਾਰੀ ਬਹੁ ਵਣਜ ਵਪਾਰਾ ।
chaar varan gur sikh hoe ghar baaree bahu vanaj vapaaraa |Becoming the Sikh of the Guru the people of all the four varnas leading the household life,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਾ ।

bhav saagar gur saagar taaraa |18|In the holy congregations, they adore the Guru-God, affectionate towards the devotees, and the Guru gets them go across the world-ocean.

rom rom vich rakhion kar brahamandd karorr pasaaraa |In His each trichome He has kept the expanse of crores of universes.
ਕੇਤੜਿਆਂ ਜੁਗ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਧੁੰਧੂਕਾਰਾ ।
ketarriaan jug varatiaa agam agochar dhundhookaaraa |None knows for how many yugs, ages, there was imperceptible and impenetrable mist.
ਕੇਤੜਿਆਂ ਜੁਗ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕੇਤੜਿਆਂ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ ।
ketarriaan jug varatiaa kar kar ketarriaan avataaraa |For many ages continued the activities of many an incarnation (of God).
ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਆਇਆ ਕਲੀ ਕਾਲ ਪਰਗਟ ਪਾਹਾਰਾ ।
bhagat vachhal hoe aaeaa kalee kaal paragatt paahaaraa |The same God, for the sake of his love for the devotees, has appeared in Kalijug (in the form of Guru).

ਪਹਿਲੋ ਦੇ ਪਾ ਖਾਕ ਹੋਇ ਪਿਛਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਪਗ ਛਾਰਾ ।
pahilo de paa khaak hoe pichhahu jag mangai pag chhaaraa |First, they become the dust of the feet of the Guru and later on, the whole world desires the dust of their feet.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਚਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਵਨਜੁ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਾ ।
guramukh maarag chaliaa sach vanaj kar paar utaaraa |Treading the path of Gurmukhs and transacting in truth, one goes across (the world ocean).
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਆਖਣਿ ਸੁਣਨਿ ਨ ਲਿਖਣਿਹਾਰਾ ।
keemat koe na jaanee aakhan sunan na likhanihaaraa |None knows the glory of such persons nor can it be written, listened to and talked about.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ।੨੦।
saadhasangat gur sabad piaaraa |20|In the holy congregation, only the word of the Guru, is loved.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦ ਲਿਵ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖ ਫਲੁ ਪਿਰਮੁ ਚਖਾਇਆ ।
saadhasangat gur sabad liv guramukh sukh fal piram chakhaaeaa |After merging their consciousness in the word of the Guru and the holy congregation, the gutmukhs have tasted the pleasure fruit in the form of contemplation of the Sabad.
ਸਭ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰਿ ਸਭੇ ਫਲ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ਕਰਾਇਆ ।
sabh nidhaan kurabaan kar sabhe fal balihaar karaaeaa |For this fruit, they have offered all the treasures and other fruits also have been sacrificed for the same.
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਣਿ ਬੁਝਾਈਆਂ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ।
trisanaa jalan bujhaaeean saant sahaj santokh dirraaeaa |This fruit has quenched all desires and fires and has further firmed up the feeling of peace, equipoise and contentment.
ਸਭੇ ਆਸਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਿਰਾਸੁ ਵਲਾਇਆ ।
sabhe aasaa pooreea aasaa vich niraas valaaeaa |All the hopes have been fulfilled and now the feeling of detachment towards them has come up.
ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ਲੈ ਮਨ ਕਾਮਨ ਨਿਹਕਾਮ ਨ ਧਾਇਆ ।
manasaa maneh samaae lai man kaaman nihakaam na dhaaeaa |The waves of mind have been subsumed in the mind itself and mind now having become free of desires does not run in any direction.
ਕਰਮ ਕਾਲ ਜਮ ਜਾਲ ਕਟਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ ਰਹਾਇਆ ।
karam kaal jam jaal katt karam kare nihakaram rahaaeaa |Cutting asunder the rituals and the noose of death, the mind while becoming active has become free of desires for reward.
ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਅਵੇਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਪੈਰੀ ਪੈ ਜਗੁ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਇਆ ।
gur upades aves kar pairee pai jag pairee paaeaa |Getting inspired by the teachings of the Guru, first, the gurmukh fell on the feet of the Guru and then he made the whole world fall cn his feet.
